Then went thru Pentium Roman numerals.
Thread drift alert: The following reply may contribute to thread drift:
“And thats where the term bug had its genesis. A moth got into one of those early beasts with all the tubes and caused some problems. A computer bug.”
Had nothing to do with tubes. The incident to which you refer was a moth caught between the contacts of a relay on the Harvard Mark II, which was a relay based computer. It was not a vacuum tube machine at all.
The liberals do not care if the car does not sell, they just get that warm fuzzy feeling that they are doing good..Eventually they will force the car on us but they will be doing it for our own good.
“The liberals do not care if the car does not sell, they just get that warm fuzzy feeling that they are doing good..Eventually they will force the car on us but they will be doing it for our own good.”
Isn’t that the truth? I have a liberal relative, empty-nester, highly minimalistic. They will do almost anything (including not bathe often enough) to “save natural resources”. So they want to get a front-load washer in a few years when the one they have croaks. They probably don’t do more than 2-3 loads of laundry a week for the two of them. So they are going to spend thousands of dollars to bump out a wall in their laundry room, so it will be big enough to hold the front-load machine “...because it will use less water....”. Go figure.
Had neighbors who sold their suv and bought a Prius...2 months later they had to buy another car, was not enough room for kids and all the soccer gear in Prius..
So every weekend and some evenings they have to drive 2 cars to soccer practice..
Liberals never really think things through, they just jump on thats a good idea and it makes them feel good whether it makes sense or not..
2.5 million???? I assume you meant $2.5K or $2500.
M, the Roman numeral for 1000, is often used in symbols to indicate a thousand, as in Mcf, a traditional symbol for 1000 cubic feet. Given the widespread use of M to mean one million, this older use of M to mean 1000 is very confusing and should be scrapped.
(But it has not.)
It still shows up on my natural gas bill every month. I do not use a million cubic feet of natural gas in a month. (And I do not sue my gas provider for overcharging for 1,000 times more gas than I burned.) Sorry, I am old.
Apparently, when I was your age, M was used for thousand. (Was based on the metric system). And that was so long ago the term "million" had not been invented yet? Ever hear of the board game “Mille bornes”? Mille Bornes. (French for a thousand milestones, referring to the stone distance markers on many French roads) is a French card game.
In the United States, Mille Bornes is manufactured and distributed by Winning Moves Games under license from Hasbro. It was previously produced by Parker Brothers and is commonly available in stores that sell games. Mille Bornes is listed in the GAMES Magazine Hall of Fame.
My 2.5M meant 2.5 thousand. Sorry, it is you newcomers’ fault the language has changed. I will not bother to learn your lingo, just as I will not learn to speak Chinese, or muslim-speak. I took a Spanish course back in 1964, because I had to to progress toward my degree, but I will ignore the metric system as long as I live, because the stupid Europeans you want to imitate debase their numbers by factors of 1,000 every few years.
Sorry this is 2012 not MMXII. Apparently you have no knowledge of computers. Computer memory has always been Greek not Roman. It has been “K” for Kilo then “M” for Mega then “G” for Giga and now “T” for Tera. It was K for thousand (actually 1024) decades ago.
