Gingrich Floats Possibility of ‘Open Convention’

Declaring that he is in the race for the long haul, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich floated the possibility Tuesday night that Republicans may have the first “open convention” since 1940.

“I’m certainly in it all the way to the convention. We’ll see what happens,” Gingrich told CNN. “At the rate we’re going, you could have the first open convention since 1940 which would give you something to cover that you would just love.”

In the 1940 Republican National Convention — the first televised contest — Wendell Willkie of Indiana was nominated for president on the sixth ballot in Philadelphia, according to various reference sources...

Gingrich predicted that Romney will not do as well as he did in 2008 in those states. Missouri has no delegates at stake in its primary.

“I think the big story coming out tonight is it’s very hard for the elite media to portray Gov. Romney as the inevitable nominee after tonight’s over...,”

Gingrich said that he has been focusing on winning the battleground state of Ohio during the March 6 Super Tuesday battle, when voters in 10 states head to the polls.

“We, I think, have a very real chance of winning Ohio so it’s very exciting to be here,” said Gingrich, who is also focusing on Arizona and Michigan on Feb. 28 and Tennessee and Georgia on Super Tuesday.

“I think we’re going to do very well on Super Tuesday. We’re going to compete very intensely in Arizona and Michigan,” he said, noting that he spoke with Texas Gov. Rick Perry earlier today.

“We have a very strong operation in Texas. We have a very strong operation in Georgia. Our goal is through Super Tuesday; we then go to Alabama and Mississippi and then we go to Texas... (snip)

"Guy like DeMint might be acceptable to both cons. and GOPe."

I think that DeMint is the definition of Conservative. I'd vote for him in a heartbeat. Who is mitch?

There has been a lot of talk of a brokered convention. Chris Wallace brought it up about a month ago, saying the the Ron Paulers were going for a brokered convention.

Newt needs to do better than Rick. Otherwise, it is bad news. Rick is a socialist and a Karl Rove candidate just like Mittens. Sure he is pro-life, but so is Newt and Newt has a longer record of being pro-life than Rick who triangulated his position in 1990.

Rick Perry was the only true Conservative in the race.

Oh really? Well, I guess I’m just one of those heartless Americans who don’t believe people who break the law and come here illegally should get State tuition for College. But, what do I know, I’m not as smart as Governor Good-hair. He was so impressive in the Debtes. (/sarc.)

And how is it YOU speak for Texas?
Sounds like wishful thinking. Maybe you suggest Texas just roll over for Mutt? Ain’t going to happen.

Revelation 12:12 (1611 King James Bible)

“Therefore reioyce, yee heauens, and yee that dwell in them; Woe to the inhabiters of the earth, and of the sea: for the deuill is come downe vnto you, hauing great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.”

The source of her intense negatives, and the visceral reaction of the Godless media..., again, in my opinion.

Are you back on that BS?

YO! The law passed by an unveotable margin!
The Texas legislature passed it because the Feds forced the state into an untenable situation.

Newt and Romney had worse positions on the matter.

Oh really? Who rented (with other people’s money) a stadium in Houston for a “prayer meeting” where he was the main speaker? I’m not opposed to prayer and spiritual awakenings. But, don’t say Rick did not flaunt his spirituality and Anita was worse about it than he.

Let's not get into who is the "holiest"

Excellent point, only Sanctimonium has already declared himself the holiest, and the one with the quality of character that Americans want in the White House, without any personal baggage...

And a few days ago, Sanctimonium announced publicly that God is endorsing him and called him to run..

So I think the holiest can of worms has already been opened, by the biggest worm running as a matter of fact.

"Daniels of Indiana has good chops."

Daniels has Syrian Christian ancestry. He seems to be friendly with the muslim community. He does have good credentials, though.

I agree, but the MSM has done such a thorough and continuous job of driving up her negatives.

Name a Republican candidate that won't have high negatives, thanks to the MSM.

Reagan, remember, was a "bumbling idiot". Yet, he cleaned Carter's clock.

Where do you get this “inside info”? I hear purely the opposite. Perry could run for Gov again and win hands down.

You know what I think is heartless?
Santorum said if his daughter was raped he would urge her to keep the child.

Now THAT is a very gray area and very personal.
Santorum got NO flak for it.
I understand his heart on the matter, but he would do that to his daughter?

Santorums all for the Unions too.
He hasn’t seen any heat and he is wading into a lot of 3rd rail politics.

Did you want a debater or a true Conservative?

Maybe you are “heartless” but only you know that for sure.

The Coptics, Eastern Orthodox, Marists or any of the ancient pre-Roman sects must know what’s it is like to co-exist in that region.

As much as possible, live at peace with all men.

Sometimes, as a secular official one must compromise. I like Daniels.

Hope it comes to that.

An open convention could be very exciting. Just hope a true conservative emerges when all is said and done.

Otherwise, what do we gain even if we do win?
