Archbishop Dolan urges Obama to back down on birth control
CBS News ^ | 2/9/12 | Corbett B. Daly

"This was a terribly misguided judgement," Archbishop Timothy Dolan of New York said in an interview of CBS This Morning.

Dolan, who is set to become a cardinal later this month, said he met with Obama in the Oval Office late last year and was promised the White House would work with the Catholic church on a number of issues, including education, healthcare and charitable work.

"I am hoping that this massive negative reaction to this ruling, I am hoping that he will go back to those assurances that he gave me," Dolan said.

I love the smell of truth in the morning. Unfortunately depending on the results, this november will tell another
tale of truth.

Yes, thanks. If people would watch the whole video at the link I think they would get the idea. The fact that the head of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops is speaking out against Obama is something that all of us should cheer. Hopefully generic anti-Catholicism will not get in the way of people seeing that this opposition to Obama by the bishops is a good thing.

The Catholic church should issue a simple statement:

"We will not comply with regulations requiring us to offer coverage for abortion and contraception. We will not pay fines resulting from our failure to comply. We will ensure maximum media coverage of your arrests of church leaders"

Your response is not called for on this forum. No religious organization in the USA deserves to have the Freedom of Religion clause in the US Constitution denied to them.

Secondly, the RC church and the bishops have no civil authority to stop the government from doing what it wants - other than the constitution! So, they (unhappily) tried to negotiate with the Obama admin’n regarding reassurances of a conscience clause for employers whose sincere religious beliefs were not in syc with the secular despots in office now. Yes, they should have fought the health care bill, but they didn’t.

By-the-way, do you think the rest of our US citizens ought to have their religious freedom curtailed as well? Because, if this decision by HHS stands, then every citizen will have to live with HHS making tyrannical laws about our health care decisions. THIS ISNOT A CATHOLIC ISSUE. It’s only that the bishops are “raising Cain” now, so to speak.

In the first place, the Catholic church deserves everything they get.
Second, is that its OBOCARE and it has been in place now for almost 2 years and now they have finally read it. I hope you realize that the public and you are being played as sheep. So now you will pound your drum for the Catholic church and Obama. This is what they want a people that is afraid and that can be led blindly into the abiss. Wake up.

No one deserves to lose any freedoms no matter what freedoms they are. The main one of coarse is the freedom of the individual to chose his/her destiny, not government, not religion, not thier nieghbor, but themselves and God and what that individual decides.

-—These guys never learn. For centuries they’ve been trying to align themselves with power, first with royalty and more recently with the Democratic party. They’ve earned the outcome.-—

The same guys?

What about the bishops in eastern Europe, who defied the communists and helped to bring down the wall?

My point is that there are good and bad bishops, and there always will be.

The only real hope is the American people can feel the future pain that they haven’t felt yet. Obama care is really a work in progress, and the full pain will not be for ten years. Unfortunately I don’t think we are going to last ten years depending on the results of November. Are the sheep awake yet, or are they peacefully ensconced in the sheep fold.

A number of issues, including education, health care and charitable work?

“Sounds to me like Dolan is trying to prop up Obama.”

obummer will back down and all of the Catholics Bishops will become re-converted to obama again and the media will hail the great compromiser in chief and pimp his compassion.

That communist, son of a whore, will, with the help of the msm, again turn lemons into lemonade and the great religious divide will disappear.

In October, the Pope will come to DC and say a Mass at the white hut, and obama will give him his personal assurances, that all Catholic institutions will be protected from obamacare {I think Pope Pius had some assurances in the late 30s from another dictator}.

Obama may back down until November 7th

And if The One is saddled with such a stinging humiliation, you can be sure he will immediately come back at us twice as hard and with a vengeance.

“...all of the Catholics Bishops will become re-converted to obama...”

1. ALL of the bishops did NOT support Obama. Several warned about him.

2. I seriously doubt that the others who were somewhat accepting of Obama will be fooled a second time.

It’s interesting to see many liberal-leaning Catholics whom I know begin to “wake up” regarding this anti-life Marxist.

Catholic leaders would have been wise to re-read the fable of the Frog and the Scorpion.

The stupidity demonstrated with regards to Obama is astounding.

Archbishop Dolan referred several times in the interview this morning to Obama’s statement in the Notre Dame commencement speech that he would protect conscience rights. This was widely praised at the time as a positive sign among all of Obama’s negatives. Now I guess it’s just all negatives.

You feel the Catholic church has not tried to align itself with power? For centuries the church and nobility were aligned and practically interchangeable. Isn’t a cardinal considered a ‘prince’ of the church?

More recently the church has curried favor with primarily the Democratic party in its efforts for social justice.

These same bishops supported ObamaCare. They’ve supported illegal immigration. For decades they made sure non-believers had no access to contraception. Did you know that years ago you could not even buy condoms in some states?

They’ve aligned themselves with power to promote their agenda. Now they’ve been betrayed by the very people they’ve been supporting.

Think you’ve got some of this backwards. Royalty was far more concerned about aligning with the Church than the Church ever was about aligning with royalty. Take the Crusades, for example. Then look at Henry II & Henri IV, and even Henry VIII. Then look at the French Revolution where, indeed, priests, nuns, bishops were slaughtered along with aristos. Then take a look at Cardinal (”Prince,” as you say) Mindszenty, among countless other examples of standing up to power—royal or not.

And, as Aquinas (FR name) mentions, there are good and bad bishops, as there are good and bad politicians, kings, presidents, teachers, etc. How certain bishops behave or react has nothing to do with the tenets of their Church.

Backwards? I have seen little evidence of the Democratic party trying to align itself with the Catholic church or support its beliefs. To the contrary.

Leaders of the church, OTOH, have bent over backwards supporting the Democrats and their socialist programs. Notre Dame gave Obama, who supports abortion, an honorary degree. Georgetown allowed Obama, who supports abortion, to speak at the school and complied with demands to cover the crucifix! The bishops have openly and strongly supported the administration’s programs for illegals and socialized medicine.

The church should stay out of politics.

Approximately 2,700 pages in the 0bamacare package that was passed by congress in a matter of HOURS after it was released ! There is no way congress or any one else could have known what it all meant.

I ask my doctor for her opinion of 0bamacare. Her statement: "Somethings need to be changed. BUT this is too much, too fast".

I have dozens of doctors within a 5 mile radius of my home, yet I drive 35 miles one way to her office because she is an excellent and respected physician who's concerns are for her patients.

Today the Catholic Church is begging for exemptions from our government. Who will be next?

Here in the middle of the US hospitals with religious names come to mind. Trinity Lutheran Hospital, Barnes-Jewish Hospital, Baptist Memorial Health Care and others.

I have a relative who received great care and attention at a Baptist Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, however I could not think of the exact name so I googled.

Up came Baptist Memorial Health Care with 14 hospitals and 2,700 physician providers in 34 specialties is available to give skilled care.

One of the pages at the Baptist Memorial Health Care web site has the following:

"Because we believe in the total care of patients, our Pastoral Care department concentrates on the spiritual needs of our patients". Spiritual Needs ....!

The entire web page can be found at http://www.bmhcc.org/whyus/

First they came for the .....

Next they came ......

Next ....

The Founding Fathers did not want a "State Religion". Today we are facing a state religion here in the US, it is The Religion of Socialism.
