Tom Jenson of Public Policy Polling has posted a heads up that tomorrow's new national PPP poll will show Santorum in the lead over Romney. Furthermore, he tweets that "What's really scary for Romney is the numbers if Newt dropped out...Newt, by staying in, is all the sudden Mitt's BFF
I’m waiting to see if Romney dumps $17 million in negs against Santorum.
I finally figured out who Romney reminds me of, Michael Corleone in the Godfather. Romney is Michael at the Baptism while his thugs are out killing half the town.
Drudge has some negative ads about him from Romney's SuperPac Restore Our Fututre Inc.
The media crowned Romney the winner of those Florida debates, but Santorum won those. The next debate is going to be a bloodbath. I wonder what Newt’s strategy will be?
Romney is certainly doing a number on the old campfire, isn’t he?
I agree with you Wolfman. I think think Rick has performed under the radar but all in all he’s done pretty well, it’s just that nobody has paid attention. That won’t be the case any more. I am fairly certain of this, if he is elected, he will probably govern as closely to the model of Ronald Reagan as anybody would. He needs to borrow Reagan’s treatment of social issues though. Everybody knows where he stands socially, but he needs to emphasize the economy.
Good thing Santorum didn’t listen to Newt and drop out.
Newt needs to drop the heck out of this race IMO.
He’s terribly damaged goods and a distraction. I’d like to see Santorum go one on one versus Romney. Thus seeing if Santorum is up to it and can make the transition to national electability.
That is exactly what Romney wants.
No, Santorum/Rubio or Santorum/Perry or maybe even Santorum/Fortuno. It would be nice to put some combat experience on the lower half of the ticket, but sadly there is none available that I know of. Perhaps Allan West in a few years?
It’s too early for anyone to drop out. Rick hasn’t really had the scrutiny yet. He surged in Iowa before scrutiny had time to emerge and then he was a nonfactor up until this week. Newt needs to stay in in case Rick implodes and also to take some southern states, assuming Rick comes back a little (not necessarily implode).
There is only one choice for Rick: Marco Rubio. The guy is amazing, and according to Levin, 100% eligible. Bob
I ain’t voting for Romunieleftyliberalhomolover. Ain’t doing it.
No thx on Rubio; he is Romney’s guy in case you hadn’t noticed in FL.
Sweep the stage with a Ma Deuce...???
Romney supported his run in Florida when few others would. Very smart political move for Romney. He would never have supported Rubio were he not Hispanic, knowing Rubio’s values. I don’t hold this against Marco, though.
Many folks agree with you. I don’t know, I voted for Santorum after eliminating the folks I didn’t like. I really haven’t voted FOR a presidential candidate since Ronald Reagan. Frankly, I blame him for the current mess however. Had he listened to Nancy, he’d have picked Paul Laxalt as his VP and much of this mess would have been eliminated. VP selections are very important. Rubio, btw, holds the late senator Jesse Helms in high regard, which is a feather in his cap in my opinion.
I favored Rick over Newt, but was willing to go with Newt if that was what it took to beat Romney and get a conservative nominated, especially after Jim endorsed Newt and Sarah semi-endorsed him, as far as she could in her current job with Fox News.
I wish Ron Paul would DROP OUT, but I know he won’t. He is a natural-born spoiler.
But I resisted the earlier calls for Rick to drop out, because I thought we needed a backup in case Newt couldn’t cut the mustard. I know, it splits the vote and it’s dangerous, but it’s still not clear to me that Newt can deal with some of those problems that hang over his head—not Romney’s false charges, but the real failings, such as the affairs, divorces, and recent willingness to do things like endorse Dede Scozzafava, plus a certain vagueness on the social or moral issues.
Is he now a strong, religious Catholic, and someone conservative Evangelicals will continue to back? I don’t know.
Anyway, I’m mostly sitting back and watching what happens. Many a slip ‘twixt the cup and the lip. I’m still praying for a good outcome, because our country really needs to change NOW.
Its too early for anyone to drop out.”
Except Romney, of course....
I was reading your reply and it was as if I was reading my own writing. Agree with you 100%.
Rubio was openly critical of Newt on two seperate occasions; one of which was to dispute Newt's assertion that Romney was not a Conservative. The second was Newt's assertion that his plan for solving the illegal immigrant dilemma was a more realistic and humane one than Romney's.
In both cases Newt stated his positions correctly; however, Rubio openly and publicly criticized Newt and managed to deliver the Hispanic vote to the sole non-Catholic, most liberal candidate: Romney. Quite a feat for Rubio.
It should be noted that Rubio did not once criticize any of Romney's positions or assertions.
Rubio is a snake who gives eloquent speeches. I have no desire to further the career of an elitist Republican version of Obama.
Levin is entitled to his opinion, and so are we.
That highlighted tweet’s 2nd sentence methinks won’t go over well with some here.
“What’s really scary for Romney is the numbers if Newt dropped out...Newt, by staying in, is all the sudden Mitt’s BFF”
I think Newt would be a solid VP choice. If for no other reason than the best VP is the guy that scares the opposition more than the Pres. Why knock off Obama because he is a train wreck. Biden takes over. Bigger train wreck with less brainpower. Bush was safe because nobody on the left wanted Dick Cheney more than Bush. Reagan had the former head of the CIA as a VP. Newt makes liberals toes crawl. Perfect VP.
this article appears ping-worthy
“What’s really scary for Romney is the numbers if Newt dropped out...
We got a taste of this with Missouri. Santorum won EVERY SINGLE COUNTY!

>>Its too early for anyone to drop out. Rick hasnt really had the scrutiny yet. He surged in Iowa before scrutiny had time to emerge and then he was a nonfactor up until this week. Newt needs to stay in in case Rick implodes...<<
I guess I can’t argue with you, since I was saying the exact same thing earlier on why Santorum shouldn’t back out...just in case Gingrich implodes.
Actually, I hope Gingrich stays in, because if Santorum continues to pull votes from him like he did in Minn and Colo, then his candidacy will be all the more impressive. And I think that’s exactly what will happen. The ABR vote is getting ready to coalesce around Santorum. Gingrich had his chance in Florida, and couldn’t seal the deal. He’s unlikely to get another chance unless Santorum can’t stand the pressure Romney is about to bring to bear.
Newt knows it's a do-or-die debate...I'd guess he has something pretty interesting cooked up.
I'd suggest Newt letting Romney and Santorum beat each other down, while he goes nuclear on Obama.
And punting the Pompous Pressies through the uprights would be a nice touch again.
Ain’t that the truth!
Ain’t that the truth!
Sorry, the Daily Kos pollster, PPP, has its own agenda. I ain’t buying it.
I wounder WHY? no republican candidate is worried about THIS!!!..
Suddenly the shoe is on the other foot with the who needs to drop out business.
Yes, why is Newt trying to elect Romney by splitting the conservative vote rather than backing Santorum? Does he hate his children? How much is the establishment paying him?
Daily Kos is hoping they go up either with Mitt or Rick.
He stole Sarah’s slogan :)
Of course, but I share Levin’s view that Rubio is 100% eligible for the Presidency. If one day Santorum and Rubio are listed among our Presidents, we’ll have gotten much better than we deserve. Bob
We will disagree, and we should not throw out the common sense definition of what makes an NBC, just because we like someone that doesnt meet that definition.
I listen to Levin almost daily, when I don't, I download his podcast. He has been arrogantly dismissive of the birther issue, when in fact it is the most important question we have ever faced as a Nation. Sadly we leave the defense of our Constitution to an immigrant that has more spunk than all the Conservatives put together. Levin has resources which at the very least could have been used to polish Orly's presentations and maybe learn something in the process. He chose not to.
I have enormous respect for the Great One but, he seems to be dismissing the true influence of Christianity on the Founding Documents, or the powerful influence in the lives of the Founders. Freepers, myself included also are sadly lacking in understanding how that truth has slowly been scrubbed from our Nation's history. To what end has the great lie been perpetuated?
“Suddenly the shoe is on the other foot with the who needs to drop out business.”
Good point. We’ll know more by March. It looks like Santorum may be competitive in Michigan, which is one of Romney’s home states.
PPP has had a good record so far.
“the Daily Kos pollster, PPP, has its own agenda.”
imo, you CAN trust them now, because they want go gain credibility, plus they’ve had an excellent track record lately.
However, for the General Election, they might play games to help Obama. Zogby did that, as I recall.
