Newt Gingrich knows how to play to the base.
At the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) on Friday, the GOP presidential hopeful said that, if elected, he would wipe out much of President Obama's legacy on his very first day in office.
-snip-
He said that "by the time President Obama lands in Chicago we will have repudiated at least 40 percent of his government on the opening day."
-snip-
"For the Republican establishment, managing the decay is preferable to changing the trajectory," he said. "This is the year to reset this country in a decisive, bold way. We are determined to rebuild America, not manage its decay."
Gingrich aligned himself the Tea Party and Ronald Reagan, which he said represented the "conservative movement" versus the "Republican establishment."
The Republican establishment, he said, doesn't "have the toughness, they don't have the commitment, and they don't have the philosophy necessary to build a majority in this country."

We complain about the imperial Presidency and then we are supposed to act as if we want it for our team?
The next President doesn’t have the power to cancel laws that were passed by Congress unilaterally.
If you listen to the speech, he was referring to Obama’s Czars. THEN congress goes into session to repeal ObamaCare, Sarbanes-Oxley, etc.
Getting rid of the czars is not 40% of the damage, as was advertised.
Listen to the speech.
I was curious about your question so I did a quick google search and found this, it may answer your question.

Red meat for the masses. Unrealistic expectations. How does he expect to do that with a Congress that has largely sat silent the whole time allowing Obama to get away with 100 percent of what Newt wants to roll back?
This Senate won’t repeal Obamacare and Sarbanes-Oxley, nor will the next one.
Oh and lets not forget that most of the GOP in the House voted for the NDAA. Repealing that will be as difficult as repealing Roe v. Wade because both are the law of the land. Obama said he won’t use it to imprison Americans without trial. If he can lie to the Catholic Bishops, he’ll lie to Congress and the American people. This man should have been impeached within the first 100 days of his administration.
I did listen to the speech. It’s the same boilerplate he’s been saying for months.

Very good!
If Gingrich undid this one act, that would make his presidency a historical one.
Are you used to a candidate that changes it's position?
Newt has to be elected first and then as he states in his speeches, we, the people have to insist and drive the representatives in doing the things that we want. With the right person, you will at least get some good things done soon in. Once the people are excited to see new changes are coming, our voices will be powerful. DC is corrupt with lobbyists. I salute the man for fighting this corrupt system. No wonder they are afraid of him. He can only do so much on the outside for now.

Newt has. He was for the individual mandate before he was against it.
I surmised you would show that you are just a whiny poster. Grow up.
Unlike the other candidates, Newt’s got some experience doing this kind of thing.
Typical response from anyone who can't refute facts.
Indeed he does.
” This is why Newt, despite his negatives, is the guy to take it to Obama.”
Right you are! This surge by Santorum made me take a closer look at him. No thanks, Newt’s warts are not near so bad as those on Santorum. And Newt has a fire in his belly that’s absent with Santorum and totally lacking with Mittens. Plus Santorum says that there’s no place in the GOP for Libertarians. Ron Paul makes a lot of sense on a lot of issues. The GOP would do well to listen to him as well, instead of belittling and trashing him. Of all of them, he’s the one who has principles, something that is sorely lacking in politics today.
I must say to you BSF... I love Newt’s boilerplate...not so much your hissing.
-- Soon-to-be-President Newton Leroy (Newt) Gingrich

You cannot grasp the facts - they go over your head. Like I said, grow up and stop your whining.
Took generations to get to here...Would take generations to get back to where we, as a Nation, should be...
Eliminating the czars and executive orders will be like taking aspirin for terminal cancer...
Only heroic surgery, as surgeons are wont to say, will offer any chance at restoring freedom & liberty within the framework of the former Constitution...
Now we know why he is still in office.
Amazing, first executive order seals his personal records. Wait a minute, that is unconstitutional.
Funny we have never heard about this.
Not much of a fact. You’re basically calling Newt a liar when he states he will repeal Obamacare, including the mandate, and that he himself has repudiated it.
This is all the Santorumbots have at this point, since their candidate, as exposed in that simple flier, honestly has no vision for the country. He is a tepid conservative with a tepid platform. But, woe to he who questions the integrity and value of Saint Rick!
Snarkiness from CBS as usual. Newt’s crowd was very enthusiastic.
The one who was underwhelming (that the MSM will never own up to) was Mittens. He just isn’t as good a fake conservative as BHO was a fake moderate.
The “conservative tradition” in our state of Pennsylvania for Republicans like Rick Santorum comes from the Pennsylvania Manuracturers Assocation.
They supported protectionism back in the 1920’s with tariffs on foreign made products that were made in Pennsylvania.
“Getting rid of the czars is not 40% of the damage, as was advertised.”
The czars dismissal was only one facet of it, if you listened to the entire game plan, starting after the election.
But the czars control a staggering amount of power and taxpayer dollars.
“The next President doesnt have the power to cancel laws that were passed by Congress unilaterally.”
He never said that - he talked about enlisting Congress (hopefully more conservative House and Senate) to repeal those laws.
I think GeronL has selective hearing.
Look up some of the unadvertised, unreported Executive Orders BHO has done - it’s frightening. One was to give the UN vastly more power on our shores, over us private citizens.
“This Senate wont repeal Obamacare and Sarbanes-Oxley, nor will the next one.”
With a forceful president, more conservatives in the House and Harry Reid out in a Republican Senate, it can be done. Newt accomplished remarkable things while Speaker and moved Clinton further than he wanted to be moved.
He can, and will, do great things again to help the republic.
Love that lineup!!!
Best part was exposing the meme. Stated he said conservative twenty five times in a twenty six minute speech.
Any person who has taken a basic business class knows this technique is used to “brain wash” the consumer. Guess Mitten's knows he's not one.
Even with more Conservatives in the House in this Congress, they have given Obama the green light to incarcerate lawful American citizens without due process. Despite all best efforts on his part to calm everyone’s fears, I don’t believe him. As I said, if he can lie to the Catholic Bishops, he’ll lie to the American people.
I have problems with all the candidates. Not just Newt.
GeronL: “The next President doesnt have the power to cancel laws that were passed by Congress unilaterally.”
Maybe you should listen to his speech before commenting?
SuperLuminal: “Only heroic surgery, as surgeons are wont to say, will offer any chance at restoring freedom & liberty within the framework of the former Constitution...”
You have to start somewhere. No way is this going to be reset overnight, but I believe Newt Gingrich will help get us started in the right direction. He’s actually been there and done that with the Contract with America in 1994. He’s got warts to be sure, but when he had his chance, he actually governed as a conservative. That is, unfortunately, a very, very rare thing in this day and age.
BigSkyFreeper: “I have problems with all the candidates. Not just Newt.”
Nevertheless, they’re the candidates we have. As frustrating as 2008 was, either McCain or Obama was going to be the next president. All the wishful thinking in the world wasn’t going to change that hard, cold fact. Talk about being on the horns of a dilemma, aka Morton’s fork!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morton%27s_fork
More than likely, one of the four remaining Republican contenders will be the nominee and will face Obama in the fall. Again, all the wishful thinking won’t change that either.
Go Newt! Slash and hammer then them out the gate. Thats why I want Newt, he’s a fighter, he’s not worried about a little blood coming from his nose.
