BAGHDAD Al-Qaidas chief has called on Muslims from other countries to support rebels in Syria seeking to overthrow President Bashar Assad, saying they cannot depend on the West for help.
Ayman al-Zawahri, in a videotaped statement released late Saturday, asked Muslims in Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey to join the uprising against Assads pernicious, cancerous regime. All four states border Syria.

A senior Iraqi security official also told the Associated Press on Saturday that intelligence over the last four months has revealed a flow of al-Qaida-linked fighters from the northern Iraqi city of Mosul into Syria.
The comments by both the Iraqi official and al-Zawahri came a day after two suicide car bombers struck security compounds in Aleppo, a Syrian city that had been relatively peaceful throughout the countrys 11-month-uprising. Though there was no claim of responsibility, suicide bombings are a hallmark of al-Qaida.

People (groups) have their own reasons for backing or not backing Assad....doesn’t mean we’re collaborating
The majority of Syrian people are sunni muslim, the same as almost all al Qaeda/Muslim Brotherhood-linked groups. The Assad family are alawite muslim, which is an offshot of shi’a islam which is what you see mostly in Iran and some parts of Lebanon/Syria. The alawites are a minority in Syria and like Christians, Assyrians and other minority groups will be exterminated when the sunnis take over.
This guy could get killed by Hezbollah.
The Iranians are supporting Assad against the Sunnis. If we just stay out of it, we might see the Iranians and al Queda expending themselves fighting each other instead of fighting us.
The great thing about a Moslem civil war is, everyone wins.
Iran may have a lot to say how this “civil war’ may turn out. The Quds Force has been there for quite a while helping Assad with weapons and manpower. Major General Qassem Suleimani has a position in Assad’s council.
