We dont have all the specifics. But it is pretty apparent that Obamas deal on contraceptives is a trick.
As to Catholic institutions, Catholic hospitals and universities would pay insurance companies premiums, which would pay for contraceptives and abortifacients. Evil doesnt become good because its laundered through a third party.
But, says HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, premiums would go down because, inter alia, you would not have to provide health services to those pesky babies who would have been born, had you not aborted them.
But if this was a theological defense, it would have applied, whether or not contraceptives and abortifacients were specified in the insurance policy.
Incidentally, the 98-99% contraception usage figure which is being thrown about unchallenged? It is from the virulently pro-abortion Alan Guttmacher Institute.
Finally, what about individual Catholic or fundamentalist or other employers who have religious objections to abortions and contraceptives? The deal would throw them under the bus.
Unlike some in the Catholic hierarchy, I vigorously fought against ObamaCare and predicted the abortion-related problems they are now facing. Am I now to go to prison for exercising my conscience? And does the First Amendment apply any less to my religious beliefs.
The pro/had-aborts HAVE to defend partial birth abortion,
because to admit that there should be restrictions on it
is to admit there’s something morally wrong with it,
and there’s no deliniation all the way back to conception that isn’t arbitrary.
Note to all: The author of this piece, Michael Hammond, is one of the nation’s leading legislative strategists. I had the privilege of working with him back when he was the General Counsel to the US Senate Steering Committee, and he was a marvel at twisting the left in knots. The Repubs in the Senate should bring him back to Washington to drive Harry Reid nuts.
Mike, if you read this, drop me a note.
RECREATIONAL CONTRACEPTIVES
FYI, exercising the death penalty is not banned by the Catholic Church. From the Catechism of the Catholic Church:
“Preserving the common good of society rquires rendering the aggressor unable to inflict harm. For this reason the traditional teaching of the Church has acknowledged as well-founded the right and duty of legitimate public authority to punish malefactors by means of penalties commensurate with the gravity of the crime, NOT EXCLUDING, IN CASES OF EXTREME GRAVITY, THE DEATH PENALTY.”
It's not a trick. It's a tactic. A strategy. The Modus Operandi espoused by Karl Marx his own self: Two steps forward, one step back.
The net result is still one step forward.
But, in this case, Urkel has modified the SOP to "Two steps forward, one step to the side."
> The Catholic Bishops cannot be taken seriously until they
> publicly excommunicate every politician that openly
> supports the death penalty, too, right?
Absolutely!
Do they believe their own teachings or not? Do they believe the words of Jesus or not? Do they desire to be taken seriously or to be a laughing stock, picking and choosing
which of their doctrines to act upon?
Furthermore, I am certain sure that the very same politicians that support abortion, contraception, and homosexuality are OPPOSED to the Death Penalty.
So your point is DOA.
> Between pols who support abortion rights, and pols who
> support the death penalty, that pretty much covers all of
> them.
Please list for us the professing Catholic politicians that support the Death Penalty.
I can’t think of even one.
I surmise that they are far fewer than those that support abortion-murder, contraception, and homosexuality.
Precisely.
To attempt to claim “when life begins” at some point in time is impossible back to conception.
To be unable to determine when life begins is to risk murder with any termination at any point after conception.
That is just too inconvenient for the leftist pro-abortionists. Better, in their minds, not to risk the woman’s choice, and to risk murder.
Then to live the rest of her life in denial of something very important.
I understand what you're saying, but to call such substances "medicines" is crazy. That's like calling a lethal injection "medicine". Face it-an abortion is the only legal medical procedure in which a death is considered a successful outcome.
Given the point raised by Mach 9 in http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2845815/posts?page=24#24, your point is DOA for reasons other than those I listed in http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2845815/posts?page=26#26
Good day.
I believe the main driving force behind the pro-abortion movement is the need for the HAD-aborts to continue the facade of denial that they committed murder.
Satan is sitting on their left shoulder whispering “God will never forgive you for that.”
He’s a liar, of course.
.
Excellent point. I have seen first hand, a couple times now, when people have to support abortion because they had one. (2 siblings) A decision based on fear at the moment in time with the convenient, but wrong headed solution in abortion.
Then the rest of their lives they have to justify it, and avoiding to ask themselves if they did the right thing as they justify it to the ghost of what could have been.
I have a 15 year old daughter who had a baby. When first we found out of the pregnancy it is amazing how everyone panicked. Even people who I thought would be firm in their previously declared beliefs wavered, considering abortion. When confronted with the situation and the panic I simply said “But I don’t believe in abortion”. And I stood by it, and my daughter was convinced. Now I have a beautiful granddaughter and nobody questions the decision to keep the child, which my daughter also wanted to keep from the start.
From this experience I see that many abortions are done out of fear. The absolute worst basis to make any decision. Then to be regretted the rest of their lives.
As for my situation, thank God.
The White Hut staff is awash in 850 assorted misfits as Obozo edicted that diversity is the name of the game when recruiting help.
Transvestites were specifically named as honored new hires along, of course, with lesbians, homosexuals, muslims, far left leaning blacks, etc., etc.
If this act of electing an unknown African as president to show the world that America is not prejudiced was designed with good intentions then the majority of our voters are stupid. This election of an America-hating, bigoted, narcissistic, communist-muslim was the most wrong-headed act in the history of humankind.
Get this pos, sob out of the White Hut: he’s killing us!
