I will bet you the republicans will cave on the debt issue, too.

No one has the stomach to make the hard choices and gentle Ben just keeps printing money.

The American people still don’t get it.

If I recall correctly, the threat was that the money used to pay the illegals EITC would be used to offset the payroll tax reduction. So this is not really much of a surprise. The GOP loves illegals as much as the DNC does. They were never serious about protecting taxpayer money from the thieving illegals. They want the IRS to give the invaders thousands of dollars of tax money that the illegals never had to pay into the system. The GOP has no intention of removing a single incentive that gives them reason to come here. Just look at the candidates still in the race. Not one of them can honestly say they completely support the American taxpayer over the illegals. So needless to say, no surprise here.

The GOP should own this issue and never fight a tax cut at any level. We gave this to Obama last time for nothing. The GOP should pass this in a NY minute and not look back.

They can waste their time trying to cut spending if they are serious about the deficit. So far, I've seen no evidence of that as the debt has continued unabated since 2010 elections.

Allowing the payroll tax to extend and not requiring any cuts to pay for it means that we will be having another debt ceiling discussion in September instead of November.

gee, i wonder how *that* will work out ???

these clowns have already shown us where their loyalty lies, and it aint with the citizenry...

“Let’s see what happens when the Republicans do this. 1. They are visibly cooperating with Obama’s stated program. 2. They are ensuring that the next blowup on the debt occurs in September before the election. This is the equivalent of “give him enough rope to hang himself, and fight the battle when he can’t afford to.” Not bad.”
********************************************************

If they do this the Republican leadership in the house needs to “associate” it with a bundle of potential offsetting budget cuts. This associated bundle of offsetting cuts should consist of a number of cuts with which most Americans would strongly agree (e.g., elimination of child tax credits for illegal aliens, ceiling on Congressional salaries, increase in the amount of contributions federal employees must make to their pensions [this is in Obama’s own “budget” just released]). The legislation would allow Obama to not actually implement the “offsets” should HE and his Czars declare that it was “in the national interest”. If Obama and the Obamamites decided to do this THEY, AND THEY ALONE, would own the resulting increase in the national debt. And THEY, AND THEY ALONE, would have to explain the need to do that as they seek another increase in the debt limit. And they would be doing this in the lead-up to November’s election.

My fear is that the Republican leadership in the House and the McConnell crew in the Senate aren’t smart enough to actually do things such as this — they always seem more ready to fall into traps set by the Democrats.

By the way, even if this were done with the national debt limit being reached in September remember that Obama’s Treasury secretary can do a number of budgetary “tricks” (e.g., borrow from the Federal Employees’ Thrift Plan’s G Fund) to extend the deadline several months. They did that from May through July/early August in 2011.

Our Side needs to be smarter in this game then they’ve been recently. The Democrats want more spending and debt? Then let them have in a way that there’s NO DOUBT that THEY own it!

I told you congressional Republicans would just cave to Obama on this again, they have no imagination. All that crap in December about the house appointing a conference committee was just smoke. They had no plan to put Obama on the defensive. Why didnt they just surrender this back in December and be done with it rather than make believe they serve some purpose in congress?

This is how you get Obama re-elected.

Of course now Obama and the Democrats will be demonizing the Republicans for not paying for this (by raising taxes on the
“rich”). How foolish the establishment Republicans are. What total FOOLS!!
