OTTAWA (Reuters) - The son of one of the greatest defenders of Canadian unity, former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, has stirred up a hornets' nest by speculating about backing Quebec separatism if the country moves too far right.
Trudeau's 40-year-old son, Justin, now a Liberal member of Parliament, said in an interview with the French-language service of the Canadian Broadcasting Corp on Sunday that he was enormously saddened by the direction of the country under Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
He said that at some point he might even back independence for his home province, French-speaking Quebec. Referendums in Quebec on independence in 1980 and 1995 both failed, the last one by a mere 1.2 percentage points.
"I always say, if at a certain point I thought that Canada was really the Canada of Stephen Harper - that we were going against abortion, and we were going against gay marriage and we were going backwards in 10,000 different ways - maybe I would think about wanting to make Quebec a country," he said.

Tell you what Justin, mon ami; You keep Quebec and we'll trade you everything north of Fredricksburg, VA and east of the I-95 corridor and throw in San Francisco and Southern California for Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Saskatchewan and the 3 NW Territories.

There are more people living west of Ontario than east for the first time in Canadian history and this trend will continue. Quebec population growth is anemic and if you remove the immigrant component it is scary. i read an article that on quebec demographics that highlighted one scary number: 40% of quebecers in less than twenty-five yrs from now will be from non-traditional french quebec families (ie immigrants and their offspring). With a large percentage of them coming from the third world. Qubec willbe reduced to 10% or less of the overall population as these growth trends continue. Given that Quebec is the most socialist cradle to grave jurisdication outside of Cuba, you can see that it will be another greece in no time. I would hasard a guess that it will be English canada that will invitably expell Quebec from Canada and not the other way around. As to to the little marxist from the Papineau riding of Montreal, he is the product of the modern progressive movement that has a stranglehold on this province. Abortion and gay marriage is their religion and have no concern whatsoever what these policies will have on the very fabric of canadian society since their answer to everything is confiscatory taxes through the power of the state to be distributed according to their definition of entitlement. His father was another POS marxist that brought Canada to the edge of the abyss.
I might be moving out west much sooner than I expected!!

LOL! I presume you will either annex or negotiate a right of way for a corridor to promote travel and natural gas/petroleum pipelines.

Justina is every inch the turd, like his sorry bastard father.
I wish Canada would just boot Quebec’s ass out...after closing down their bases, taking all the equipment, and annexing a land corridor to the eastern provinces.
