Megadeth's Dave Mustaine endorses Santorum

Dave Mustaine, leader of the heavy metal band Megadeth, is ready to rock out for Rick Santorum.

"Earlier in the election, I was completely oblivious as to who Rick Santorum was, but when the dude went home to be with his daughter when she was sick, that was very commendable,” Mustaine recently told MusicRadar.com. “... You know, I think Santorum has some presidential qualities, and I'm hoping that if it does come down to it, we'll see a Republican in the White House... and that it's Rick Santorum."

Weighing in on the rest of the field, Mustaine called Newt Gingrich an “angry little man” and said Ron Paul will “make total sense for a while, and then he'll say something so way out that it negates everything else.”

As for Mitt Romney, the rocker said, “I've got to tell you, I was floored the other day to see that Mitt Romney's five boys have a $100 million trust fund. Where does a guy make that much money? So there's some questions there.”

Still, Mustaine would pick any of the GOP candidates over President Barack Obama.

"I'm just hoping that whatever is in the White House next year is a Republican,” he said. “I can't bear to watch what's happened to our great country. Everybody's got their head in the sand. Everybody in the industry is like, 'Oh, Obama's doing such a great job. ...' I don't think so. Not from what I see.”

Good for Dave Mustaine. I caught his band and Motorhead during the Gigantour stop at Chicago. Megadeth put on a real show.

First Pat Boone, now this. Rick is slowly getting the support of the music industry. Who would have thought. I'm hoping Skunk Baxter is next.

I actually used to hate Dave Mustaine because he was so pro-abortion that he put on shows for pro-choice causes. I guess anyone can change if HE can. And it doesn’t seem to be some gimmick either. Bless him for coming to the light.

Welcome to FR.

This is a pretty cool endorsement for Rick.

No way Dave Mustaine is cooler than Lemmy, and Lemmy endorsed Rick Perry!

Motorhead had a great show also! I was a Lemmy fan from back when he still was in Hawkwind. That probably shows my age:)

Mustaine has apparently cyphered how much his tax rates are rising under Obama.

Okay, Mustaine has issued a clarification. It appears that he is not yet ready to endorse Santorum, however, he’s backing the GOP over Obama, and believes Santorum has shown presidential-like qualities in looking after his daughter:

Lemmy actually endorsed a politician? That’s shocking. He hates ALL of them.

I think Mustaine changed sometime during the Bush years. He’s leaned right for awhile, although considers himself an independent.

Good for him. I’ve always liked his music. It has a unique ‘clean’ sound to it. I can recognize his music as being his even if I never heard it before. I look forward to hearing his latest album. His previous one, End Game, was awesome.

Not that I care who Mustaine endorses, but why tear down all the others?

We’re all tired of the Symphony of Destruction upon our Nation, Dave. Welcome to the party.
