Romney, Santorum to Skip March 1 Debate
National Journal ^ | 2/16/12 | Sarah B. Boxer

Posted on 02/16/2012 12:45:46 PM PST by KansasGirl

The front of the GOP pack will be absent at the March 1 debate in Atlanta sponsored by CNN and the Georgia Republican Party, CBS News/National Journal has learned. The Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum campaigns said they have decided to skip the debate, throwing into question whether it will happen as planned. "With eight other states voting on March 6, we will be campaigning in other parts of the country and unable to schedule the CNN Georgia debate," Romney spokeswoman Andrea Saul said. "We have participated in 20 debates, including eight from CNN." The 20 debates include one scheduled for Feb. 22 in Mesa, Ariz.

To the 95% on this thread who are dissing every Rep. candidate except Newt, did you bother reading the article? If you go to the article, it does NOT match with what’s posted at the top of this thread.

It says Romney and Paul pulled out. THEN, CNN cancelled the debate, and, oh, by the way, Santorum won’t be participating either.

Whether it was Romney, then Paul, then Santorum.....or Paul, then Santorum, then Romney.....or whatever.....who cares.

Newt can always debate himself...he’s taken more than one position on many issues (only later to reverse course calling his previous position a “mistake”).

Kind of like when Rick said in the debate that voting for Medicare Part D was a mistake?

Let's not even get into Romney's flip-flops on abortion, gun control, embryonic stem cell research, cap-and-trade, etc. Even worse are all the liberal positions he refuses to flip-flop on like Romneycare and his Obama-cloned economic redistribution policies of welfare for the poor and higher taxes for the rich.

For me is quite clear, as the time has come to talk about the governor and senator’s records in office.

Mitt is hiding from more televised scrutiny of his liberal MA record.

Rick is afraid he’ll have to defend his own big government spending (the 51 bills he pushed into Senate, if they all passed, which some of them didn’t, would had risen the spending with an extra $30 billion), and liberal fiscal policies. He just doesn’t want to talk about his failure as a “conservative” senator.

Both of them can’t take the heat of the kitchen.

Well, actually, over three million have voted to date.

GOP Primary Tracker

But that is still a very small number compared to the whole. By the time the debate occurs mentioned in this article, it will be up to probably something over 5 million.

Neither of those two cowards have anything to gain by showing up, they both know they are not boxing in the same category as Newt - his knowledge of the whole government policy spectrum and his debating skills are over their small cerebellums.

Watch. Santorum will claim, "It wasn't ME. They pulled out FIRST."

Don't expect anything but hubris from him and his ilk.

“actually, over three million have voted to date”

That makes less than 2% of the potential voters.

Joe, Newt and Rick already did a one-on-one debate in November I think. It’s on YouTube. They both signed on to the Trump/Newsmax debate to debate each other but it was cancelled.

JUST SAY NO TO THE MITTRICK SYSTEM!

Newt had already debated Santorum in November 2011, but Rick is such a bore, that Newt couldn’t stand a second head-to-head with him again.

You just will not rest until Rick Santorum suffers the same fate your guy did, even though Santorum had NOTHING to do with it. I bet you check everyday hoping, praying, gleefully cheering for some kind of anti-Santorum piece to come up so you prop up the crap on here.

As for the rest of you on this whole “they are cowards in cahoots” crap, let’s get real for a second.

If I had been sagging in the polls, then shot up through victories and built a substantial lead over an opponent that like to manipulate debates to their advantage, of course I’m not going to agree to a debate if I don’t have to. That’s just plain stupid, and would probably cause me to question the judgement of someone who would take such a high risk with little reward, like TexasFreeper mentioned in his concerns.

Like a couple of years ago on a season of The Apprentice. There was this guy on the team who had immunity from being fired and the Team Captain for that week b*tched and moaned that he didn’t feel the same pressure because he was immune. So the guy offerred to give up his immunity and be pulled into the Board room as 1 of 3 who could be fired. And what did Trump do? He fired his sorry a$$ on the spot, noting that his actions were truly stupid.

Not wanting to debate when your up substantially is what every sane person running for President will do, and what most people who follow politics will understand.

But hey, maybe this is a great time for Newt to put that plan into place where he was going to follow Obama around everywhere he went and speak at all his venues after him if he refused to a Lincoln-Douglas style debate. Well, maybe Newt can now follow Santorum and Romney around and do that, that is if what he said just wasn’t political rhetoric in the wind.

Oh, and as for your suggestion, that would change things by having your nearest competitor in the debates, so if Romney accepted at the last minute, the Santorum people would also. Just plain common sense.

1-877-381-3811 I dare ANY Santorum-basher that thinks they’re bold enough to call Mark Levin and take their argument on the air. My bet is on Levin though winning.

You mean the meeting with Adelson that Romney requested in an effort to persuade him to stop funding Newt’s campaign?
The reason for the meeting and who initiated it was widely reported.

Colusion between the Romney camp and Santorum is crystal clear mow that they have both dropped out of the debate. Neither would have dropped out without assurance from the other that they would follow suit. Cowards, both of them.

I believe one of the reasons Rick will NOT win against barry the bozo is the 18-30 age group. Ask them how they feel about gay marriage, they couldn’t care less, the programming has been successful. Ask them how they feel about birth control, they only hear what the msm pounds into their mush brains and believe they will be deprived of it with Rick at the helm, and add in their perception that abortion will be outlawed and THAT is a huge part of why he could never win in this current culture. Sad but true - go ask them yourself.

Hahaha! What complete and utter BULLschtick. Even if someone did have the magic talent of "manipulating" a debate, wouldn't that be a major advantage going up against Obama? Which means your coward candidate simply wants to hide the fact that he would be a weaker opponent against Obama.

Not wanting to debate when your up substantially is what every sane person running for President will do, and what most people who follow politics will understand.

It's what every politically unskilled coward would do. It's what someone who wanted to run from their record and bamboozle the voters with dishonest and manipulative ads would do. It is not what someone skilled enough to be POTUS would do. And that's something most people can understand whether they follow politics or not.
