Santorum's Fight for Welfare Reform
National Review ^ | 1/4/2012 | Brian Bolduc

Posted on 02/16/2012 1:47:07 PM PST by FresnoRobert

As the junior senator from Pennsylvania, Rick Santorum shepherded welfare reform through the U.S. Senate in 1996. Given his limited tenure — he’d been elected to the Senate only two years before — the fact that Majority Leader Bob Dole selected Santorum to lead the effort is nothing short of remarkable, Santorum’s former colleagues say. It also is a testament to an overlooked virtue of the ex-senator’s: his pragmatism.

Calling people trolls isn't name calling in your book? OK sport! You seem to have your own little reality going where you pretend what you just said never happened and unlimited time to comment on threads I post. It must be hell to have nothing else to look forward to. You also seem to have an unlimited capability to see conspiracies. I see that you have already accused another guy on a different thread of the same that you insinuated of me. You are really stuck on the same tune. Anyone who thinks Rick Santorum is a far better candidate than the others is your enemy. You may want to seek help. And thanks for running up my thread count by the way. I will try to keep posting pro Santorum threads to keep you occupied.

Of course you will keep posting, your sleeper account has fully come to life.

I don’t need to look forward to your posts, you ping me when you make them to me.

We are awash in sleeper accounts coming to life, so far I have not noticed a single one of them being a Gingrich backer, have you?

Thank goodness, but if you find a sleeper account that is pro-Gingrich, ping me to it.

I am not really a fan of the “don’t run someone so conservative they offend the masses” theory,

Since you made that up, care to explain it?

I’m confused a little here. I do *not* support the position that states we should not run someone so conservative they offend the masses.
Whenever someone runs as a strongly conservative candidate, they win, because the majority of people in this country are conservative.
The contract with America was a winning position for this reason. The fizzle and aisle crossing and all that were not winning positions, because they then tried to make nice with the people whose numbers were insufficient to keep them out of office in the first place, and would never have voted for them no matter how nice they played - the only result of that was the loss of respect from their base.
