Washington, D.C.Nevada Senator Harry Reid issued the following statement after the Senate approved the payroll tax cut conference report by a vote of 60-36. The compromise also extends unemployment insurance and protects Medicare patients ability to see their doctors.
More than 160 million American workers will keep more of their hard-earned money in their pockets this year thanks to this bipartisan compromise. More than four million unemployed Americans will continue receiving checks that help them pay the rent and buy groceries while they look for a job, and millions of seniors on Medicare will continue to have access to their doctors. I fought to prevent Republicans from making extreme cuts to unemployment insurance in hard-hit states like Nevada that need assistance as our economy continues to recover.
In the end, both sides compromised for the good of our country, which is exactly how the American people expect their elected leaders to work.
I commend the members of the conference committee for their diligence and dedication throughout this process. This bipartisan victory will help our fragile economy as it continues to gain steam. More needs to be done, but this is an important step forward. I hope the spirit of compromise shown by Republicans today will continue as we work together to keep our economy growing.
I am sure they hated doing this. They’re just trying to save their asses since election time is nearing.
I find it absolutely amazing that RATS are destroying the funding for Socialism Security. Guess the RATS are allowed to rewrite history while the GOP hides under their desks.
Exactly! What does this do to an employee in their early 60’s?
Does the “break” end up costing them thousands over their lifetimes after they retire?
Now you’re thinking. This is the way they will reduce and eventually end SS retirement benefits. And no worry about that big bulge of boomers now entering retirement.....that’s what Obamacare death panels are for.
Passed the House with 147 Dem votes and 146 Rs.
Proof the RINO-Dem party could be stopped with only about 40 new conservative Representatives this Nov.
I do not understand why GOP is not screaming from the rooftops without this doc fix Obama would be having to face the wrath of millions of seniors whose physicians refuse MediCare because of ObamaCare cuts.
GOP fixed a major issue Obama would be facing this year and has not said a word. This would have been major kill in a election year. Throw grandma over the cliff moment.
All the screams of the left that GOP wants to end MediCare and Obama is slashing it big time. GOP silent.
It makes me think GOP likes ObamaCare and will never consider repeal.
The agreed to conference report ( I brlieve it’s the whole bill)
Will this failures to pay in have e negative effect on the future social security amount received by current employees? It sure will. The more you pay in, the more you eventually get out when you retire. Or get permanently injured, can't work, and qualify for SS Disability. (this is not the 'SSI' program for junkies and drunks)
So all these jokers Cheering about their 'Payroll Tax Cut' will be in for a very rude awakening when they go to the local SS Office to file their retirement paperwork.
Granted its a Ponzi Scheme and may not be around for young people in their 30's. But anyone 50 or older should pay in all they can. This 'tax cut' means they're gonna get screwed twice. First with the more money they take home now the more in Income Taxes they pay now, and then when they retire, they'll get less money. (idiots)
Interesting in all the different numbers this administration throws around:
A few months ago, the ‘middle class’ was defined as those making $80,000 to $140,000 per year.
When Obama was running for office, he promised that ‘no middle class person earning $250,000 or less would see an increase in taxes.
Those 2 number don’t jibe. Actually, Barry is quite ‘math-deficient’ in all of his statements where numbers are included....think about the ‘unemployment’ numbers.
Also—every network is touting a $1000.00 increase in a person’s take home pay.
That is based upon a person making $50,000 a year.
It also ONLY applies to those who are actually on a time clock or a payroll.
Self employed persons get no tax break at all.
In the end, the damage to the Social Security funds will be tremendous. Then watch Barry try to blame that on BUSH!!!!
