Contraception Misdirection [Mark Steyn]
National Review ^ | 2/18/2012 | Mark Steyn

Posted on 02/18/2012 3:18:37 AM PST by Servant of the Cross

A universal birth-control mandate is a curious priority for a dying republic.

Have you seen the official White House version of what the New York Times headline writers call “A Responsible Budget”? My favorite bit is Chart 5-1 on page 58 of their 500-page appendix on “Analytical Perspectives.” This is entitled “Publicly Held Debt Under 2013 Budget Policy Projections.” It’s a straight line going straight up before disappearing off the top right-hand corner of the graph in the year 2084 ...

I wonder if most folks have the historical knowledge to understand many of Mr Steyn’s references? I doubt it.

But in America an oblivious political class, led by a president who characterizes young motherhood as a “punishment,” prefers to offer solutions to problems that don’t exist rather than the ones that are all too real. I think this is what they call handing out condoms on the Titanic.

“If 100 geezers run up a bazillion dollars’ worth of debt, is it likely that 42 youngsters will ever be able to pay it off?”

Does anyone doubt that a fifth column is at work in the United States?

Are the American people really this stupid?

"As the European debt crisis staggers on, these two countries loathe each other ever more nakedly:

"The Greek president brings up his war record against the German bullies, and Athenian commentators warn of the new Fourth Reich."

So the Greeks are going to take on the German bullies at a Plains of Marathon re-stage?

The 21st-century Greeks are up to it?

Maybe this Fourth Reich bit is more a prophesy than a warning.

Maybe the Greeks could get in boats and stick their tongues out at the Germans.

"The Germans, for their part, would rather cut the Greeks loose."

Maybe. No doubt there are some Germans who have...another idea.

So, now, it becomes clear that Stephanopolous (sp?) was just the scout when he reached into his DNC briefcase and cast out that birth control question at the GOP debate a while back.

It’s a brilliant strategy, really, given our culture’s obsession with sex. And, of course, Steyn describes the approach, in his typical inspired way, by noting the way the stereotype of the sex-starved Republican is being used to hammer home the message that those who oppose the mandate just want to keep everyone else from having sex.

I had been pondering the question of why the Sorosians would pick this fight at this time, and I actually awoke from a sound sleep with the thought that they were trying to change the subject to keep the focus away from the economy.

It’s weird, I know. Apparently my brain was working on this as I slept. I know that I had been dreaming and that Romney and Santorum were both in my dream, but I was learning about them rather than interacting with them. Similar inspirations have occurred to me in this fashion only 2 other times in my life.

[ Glenn Reynolds, the Instapundit, distills the current hysteria thus: “It’s as if we passed a law requiring mosques to sell bacon and then, when people objected, responded by saying ‘What’s wrong with bacon? You’re trying to ban bacon!!!!’” ]

It seems to have worked. Looks like women would rather force the churches to pay for their birth control pills than stop the Marxists.

"The notion that an all-powerful government would distract from its looming bankruptcy by introducing a universal contraceptive mandate would strike most novelists as almost too pat in its symbolism. It’s like something out of Brave New World. Except that it’s cowardly, and, like so much else about the sexual revolution, very old and wrinkled."

I hate what the left has done to us all.

"I think this is what they call handing out condoms on the Titanic."

How about this solution:

"I’m willing to ALLOW INCREASED IMMIGRATION to this country. I think we NEED MORE PEOPLE coming to this nation who want to be Americans to GROW THIS ECONOMY. You want to FIX THE SOCIAL SECURITY problem? LET'S HAVE MORE WORKERS." - Rick Santorum Jan. 24, 2011

A few sentences might stand out from his article:
"It may well be that the Democrats succeed in establishing this narrative. But anyone who falls for it is a sap. In fact, these two issues — the Obama condoms-for-clunkers giveaway and a debt-to-GDP ratio of 900 percent by 2075 — are not unconnected. In Greece, 100 grandparents have 42 grandchildren — i.e., an upside-down family tree."

That is it in a nut shell. No hyperboloid required beyond that point. :)

” - - - A universal birth-control mandate is a curious priority for a dying republic.”

Not at all, just look at the math and the emotions:

1.) There are more women than men voters.

2.) The Obamanator has chosen to pit God against women.

Could by the title of a new Marxist Symphony: “Mandate for a Dying Republic.”
