What the Mormons Know About Welfare
The Wall Street Journal ^ | February 18, 2012 | NAOMI SCHAEFER RILEY

Posted on 02/19/2012 7:03:57 AM PST by JustTheTruth

... Mitt Romney said he was "not concerned about the very poor" but would fix America's social safety net ...

But if he wants to see a welfare system that lets almost no one fall through the cracks while at the same time ensuring that its beneficiaries don't become lifelong dependents, he could look to his own church.

(snip)

Launched during the Great Depression, the Mormon welfare system was designed by church leaders as a way to match the ... unemployed faithful with ... temporary labor. As storehouse manager ... explains, goods and services were traded so that if a father needed food for his family he could get some in exchange for, say, repairing the fence of a widow down the road.

(snip)

... "Our primary purpose was to set up insofar as it might be possible, a system under which the curse of idleness would be done away with, the evils of a dole abolished and independence, industry, thrift and self respect be once more established among our people. The aim of the Church is help the people to help themselves. Work is to be re-enthroned as the ruling principle of the lives of our Church membership."

(snip)

. . . the primary source of capital support is the Mormons' monthly fast, as church members are asked to contribute what they would have spent on two meals. Many give much more, says Mr. Foster.

It is safe to assume that Mr. Romney's (...) donations are supporting the kind of safety net that government can never hope to create. Jesus may have said the poor will always be with you, but he didn't say Medicaid would.

LDS senators and representatives were held in special regard, and the Tabernacle Choir was his specialinaugural guest.

Let's hear them sing!!

Praise to the Man!

Praise to the man who communed with Jehovah!
Jesus annointed that Prophet and Seer.
Blessed to open the last dispensation,
Kings shall extol him, and nations revere.

Chorus
Hail to the Prophet, ascended to heaven!
Traitors and tyrants now fight him in vain.
Mingling with Gods, he can plan for his brethren;
Death cannot conquer the hero again.

Praise to his mem'ry, he died as a martyr;
Honored and blest be his ever great name!
Long shall his blood, which was shed by assasins,
Plead unto heav'n while the earth lauds his fame.

Chorus
Hail to the Prophet, ascended to heaven!
Traitors and tyrants now fight him in vain.
Mingling with Gods, he can plan for his brethren;
Death cannot conquer the hero again.

Great is his glory and endless his priesthood.
Ever and ever the keys he will hold.
Faithful and true he will enter his kingdom,
Crowned in the midst of the prophets of old.

Chorus
Hail to the Prophet, ascended to heaven!
Traitors and tyrants now fight him in vain.
Mingling with Gods, he can plan for his brethren;
Death cannot conquer the hero again.

Sacrifice brings forth the blessings of heaven;
Earth must atone for the blood of that man.
Wake up the world for the conflict of justice.
Millions shall know 'Brother Joseph' again.

Chorus
Hail to the Prophet, ascended to heaven!
Traitors and tyrants now fight him in vain.
Mingling with Gods, he can plan for his brethren;
Death cannot conquer the hero again.

Turned the heater off in my outdoor pipe closet yesterday. This morning they were frozen when I came out to the coffee shack. Should get me some of that radiant heat. Took about fifteen minutes to get the water running again, but alas we are all warmed up now having that first cuppa.....

There is no credibility in linking cultic sources - even if the include pictures of Reagan.

Next time a Mormon "prophet" re-revises the Bible (like Joseph Smith did), he can change...

See some differences between GOD's Word and the Joseph Smith's 'translation'

Color coding explanation:

Added stuff... Changed stuff... Rearranged stuff... Removed stuff...
 *(UNDERLINED stuff is the DISTRACTING reference on every tenth word or so that infuses LDS 'scripture' online.)

JOSEPH SMITH—MATTHEW
An extract from the translation of the Bible as revealed to Joseph Smith the Prophet in 1831: Matthew 23: 39 and chapter 24.
Jesus foretells the impending destruction of Jerusalem—He also discourses on the second coming of the Son of Man, and the destruction of the wicked.
1 aFor I say unto you, that ye shall not see me henceforth and know that I am he of whom it is written by the prophets, until ye shall say: Blessed is he who bcometh in the name of the Lord, in the clouds of heaven, and all the holy angels with him. Then understood his disciples that he should come again on the earth, after that he was glorified and ccrowned on the right hand of God.
2 And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple; and his disciples came to him, for to ahear him, saying: Master, show us concerning the buildings of the temple, as thou hast said—They shall be thrown down, and left unto you desolate.
3 And Jesus said unto them: See ye not all these things, and do ye not understand them? Verily I say unto you, there shall not be left here, upon this temple, one astone upon another that shall not be thrown down.
4 And Jesus left them, and went upon the Mount of Olives. And as he sat upon the Mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying: Tell us when shall these things be which thou hast said concerning the destruction of the temple, and the Jews; and what is the asign of thy bcoming, and of the cend of the world, or the destruction of the dwicked, which is the end of the world?
5 And Jesus answered, and said unto them: Take heed that no man deceive you;
6 For many shall come in my name, saying—I am aChrist—and shall deceive many;
7 Then shall they deliver you up to be aafflicted, and shall kill you, and ye shall be bhated of all nations, for my name’s sake;
8 And then shall many be aoffended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another;
9 And many afalse prophets shall arise, and shall deceive many;
10 And because iniquity shall abound, the alove of many shall wax cold;
11 But he that remaineth asteadfast and is not overcome, the same shall be saved.
12 When you, therefore, shall see the aabomination of bdesolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, concerning the destruction of cJerusalem, then you shall stand in the dholy place; whoso readeth let him understand.
13 Then let them who are in Judea flee into the amountains;
14 Let him who is on the housetop flee, and not return to take anything out of his house;
15 Neither let him who is in the field return back to take his clothes;
16 And wo unto them that are with achild, and unto them that give suck in those days;
17 Therefore, pray ye the Lord that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the Sabbath day;
18 For then, in those days, shall be great atribulation on the bJews, and upon the inhabitants of cJerusalem, such as was not before sent upon Israel, of God, since the beginning of their kingdom until this time; no, nor ever shall be sent again upon Israel.
19 All things which have befallen them are only the beginning of the sorrows which shall come upon them.
20 And except those days should be shortened, there should none of their flesh be asaved; but for the elect’s sake, according to the bcovenant, those days shall be shortened.
21 Behold, these things I have spoken unto you concerning the Jews; and again, after the tribulation of those days which shall come upon Jerusalem, if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there, believe him not;
22 For in those days there shall also arise false aChrists, and false prophets, and shall show great signs and wonders, insomuch, that, if possible, they shall deceive the very elect, who are the elect according to the covenant.
23 Behold, I speak these things unto you for the aelect’s sake; and you also shall hear of bwars, and rumors of wars; see that ye be not troubled, for all I have told you must come to pass; but the end is not yet.
24 Behold, I have told you before;
25 Wherefore, if they shall say unto you: Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: Behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not;
26 For as the light of the morning cometh out of the aeast, and shineth even unto the west, and covereth the whole earth, so shall also the coming of the Son of Man be.
27 And now I show unto you a parable. Behold, wheresoever the acarcass is, there will the eagles be bgathered together; so likewise shall mine elect be gathered from the four quarters of the earth.
28 And they shall hear of wars, and rumors of wars.
29 Behold I speak for mine elect’s sake; for nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; there shall be afamines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
30 And again, because iniquity shall abound, the love of men shall wax acold; but he that shall not be overcome, the same shall be saved.
31 And again, this aGospel of the Kingdom shall be preached in all the world, for a witness unto all bnations, and then shall the end come, or the destruction of the wicked;
32 And again shall the aabomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, be fulfilled.
33 And immediately after the tribulation of those days, the asun shall be bdarkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the cstars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of heaven shall be shaken.
34 Verily, I say unto you, this ageneration, in which these things shall be shown forth, shall not pass away until all I have told you shall be fulfilled.
35 Although, the days will come, that heaven and earth shall pass away; yet my awords shall not pass away, but all shall be fulfilled.
36 And, as I said before, after the atribulation of those days, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken, then shall appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven, and then shall all the tribes of the earth bmourn; and they shall see the cSon of Man dcoming in the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory;
37 And whoso atreasureth up my word, shall not be deceived, for the Son of Man shall bcome, and he shall send his cangels before him with the great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together the dremainder of his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
38 Now learn a parable of the afig-tree—When its branches are yet tender, and it begins to put forth leaves, you know that summer is nigh at hand;
39 So likewise, mine elect, when they shall see all these things, they shall know that he is near, even at the doors;
40 But of that day, and hour, no one aknoweth; no, not the angels of God in heaven, but my Father only.
41 But as it was in the days of aNoah, so it shall be also at the coming of the Son of Man;
42 For it shall be with them, as it was in the days which were before the aflood; for until the day that Noah entered into the ark they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage;
43 And aknew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of Man be.
44 Then shall be fulfilled that which is written, that in the alast days, two shall be in the field, the one shall be taken, and the other bleft;
45 Two shall be grinding at the mill, the one shall be taken, and the other left;
46 And what I say unto one, I say unto all men; awatch, therefore, for you know not at what hour your Lord doth come.
47 But know this, if the good man of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to have been broken up, but would have been ready.
48 Therefore be ye also aready, for in such an hour as ye think not, the Son of Man cometh.
49 Who, then, is a afaithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?
50 Blessed is that aservant whom his lord, when he cometh, shall find so doing; and verily I say unto you, he shall make him ruler over all his goods.
51 But if that evil servant shall say in his heart: My lord adelayeth his coming,
52 And shall begin to smite his fellow-servants, and to eat and drink with the drunken,
53 The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of,
54 And shall cut him asunder, and shall appoint him his portion with the hypocrites; there shall be weeping and agnashing of teeth.
55 And thus cometh the aend of the wicked, according to the prophecy of Moses, saying: They shall be cut off from among the people; but the end of the earth is not yet, but by and by.

The

DOCTRINE AND COVENANTS

OF THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS

SECTION 71

Revelation given to Joseph Smith the Prophet and Sidney Rigdon, at Hiram, Ohio, December 1, 1831. HC 1: 238–239. The Prophet had continued to translate the Bible with Sidney Rigdon as his scribe until this revelation was received, at which time it was temporarily laid aside so as to enable them to fulfill the instruction given herein. The brethren were to go forth to preach in order to allay the unfriendly feelings that had developed against the Church as a result of the publication of some newspaper articles by Ezra Booth, who had apostatized.

1–4, Joseph Smith and Sidney Rigdon are sent forth to proclaim the gospel; 5–11, Enemies of the saints shall be confounded.

1 Behold, thus saith the Lord unto you my servants Joseph Smith, Jun., and Sidney Rigdon, that the time has verily come that it is necessary and expedient in me that you should open your mouths in proclaiming my gospel, the things of the kingdom, expounding the mysteries thereof out of the scriptures, according to that portion of Spirit and power which shall be given unto you, even as I will.

2 Verily I say unto you, proclaim unto the world in the regions round about, and in the church also, for the space of a season, even until it shall be made known unto you.

3 Verily this is a mission for a season, which I give unto you.

4 Wherefore, labor ye in my vineyard. Call upon the inhabitants of the earth, and bear record, and prepare the way for the commandments and revelations which are to come.

5 Now, behold this is wisdom; whoso readeth, let him understand and receive also;

6 For unto him that receiveth it shall be given more abundantly, even power.

7 Wherefore, confound your enemies; call upon them to meet you both in public and in private; and inasmuch as ye are faithful their shame shall be made manifest.

8 Wherefore, let them bring forth their strong reasons against the Lord.

9 Verily, thus saith the Lord unto you—there is no weapon that is formed against you shall prosper;

10 And if any man lift his voice against you he shall be confounded in mine own due time.

11 Wherefore, keep my commandments; they are true and faithful. Even so. Amen.

Well I was wondering if there would be a LDS bold enough to try invoking Reagan again. Looks like a noob, and possibly not a retread.

For the record like myself and many others here we grew up in a time where knowledge of the LDS was limited and almost exclusively based on their propaganda. Yes they were a success financially, yes they appeared to be very upright and they were very good at planning and such, had what appeared to be good families and were the poster children for conservative living. Their politicians were honest and hard working (pretty much) and they were trustworthy to have in a cabinet because again the propaganda painted a picture of almost stepford like perfection.

The quaint little antidotes about Jesus talking to Indians and the like were idiosecrenciies and at the time just background noise verses the PR.

Their political power was well known and exceeded their numbers mainly do to the money they could bring to bear. They worked hard to elect Reagan for several reasons including what Nana mentions about Carter and the 1978 “revelation”. Their influence was discussed in the backrooms of the day, but not often and not to the point of being more than a interesting side note. They weren't pushing their "we are Christians too" but, indeed that was still at the time they were rather satisfied with being about from Christianity, before their overseas pushes where the brand name was needed.

Needless to say Reagan was thankful.

Oh what little did many of us know.

Following The Money In The United Kingdom

The Church is registered as both a charity and a company, and as such it is required to be registered with the Charity Commission and Companies House. It is also obliged to publish year-end accounts of it's activities. Interestingly the Church was one of a number of charities that was censured for late returns of it's accounts for 2004. As each charity has 10 months from the end of the year to submit its report we will have to wait until 31st October to find out how the church faired in 2005.

The Church has three charities that are currently registered;

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Great Britain) The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Welfare) LDS Family Services (UK) Ltd.

Each of these organisations is wholly owned by two parent companies; The Corporation of the President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (aka Gordon "The Hammer" Hinckley) and The Corporation of the Presiding Bishop of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (aka David "The Bruiser" Burton), both of Salt Lake City, Utah.

If you scroll down each of these links you will see a further link where you can view the yearly reports for each organisation. The COJCOLD (Welfare) also owns three additional, separate companies (not charities). These are;

AgReserves Ltd Farmspeed (Southery Anchor) Ltd Hallwsworth (Farmland Trust) Ltd

You can search for basic details of these companies here. You also have the option of paying £1 per document to look at their annual returns. I looked at a sample and will post info on this at a later date. Each of these companies are farming enterprises, and grow the wheat that we all get to buy, pack and add to our food storage.

Some of the basic info that i picked up from the accounts of the 'main' church charity include;

Surplus income over expenditure was £2,042,000, assisted by a £5m donation from the boys in SLC, leaving a balance in their HSBC account of £20,891,000.

For a church that has no paid ministry we managed to spend £7,752,000 on staff costs, in fact it was the largest single expenditure.

As well as this £856,000 was spent on 'travel', £2,301,000 on 'General administration', £265,000 on 'Materials and supplies' and £855,000 on equipment.

Despite members donating £252,000 to the Humanitarian Aid Fund the church only spent £51,000 of it. More on this another time because this sort of thing really really ticks me off.

In 2004 the number of employees earning between £70-£80k was 1; £60-£70k was 7 and £50-£60k was 12. Nice work if you can get it.

Assets in the course of construction, land and buildings, equipment and motor vehicles came to a value of £299,227,000. Depreciation of these assets was reckoned to be £52,502,000 which gives the church a net worth in terms of tangible assets of £246,725,000, a little under £0.25bn. And that doesn't include the cash in the bank.

There is an outstanding 'loan' from the parent company ("The Hammer") of £228,358,000. I used the word loan loosely as it stipulates there is no interest charge and no fixed repayment terms. More on this later as i need time to decipher the jargon; looks like large sums being channelled back to SLC but will check.

"The Church's active membership continues to grow" - yeah right. At year end there were 45 stakes, 1 District, 278 Wards and 85 Branches in Great Britain and Ireland. Compared to the end of 2003 there have been no additional Stakes, no additional Districts, 4 additional Wards, and 10 fewer Branches.

The stone that isn't rolling forth.

Following The Money In The Uk - Part 2

Last time i focussed on the workings of the main church organisation in the UK, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Great Britain) ; this post is about it's sister 'charity', The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Welfare) Limited.

The objectives of the charity are to promote the religious and other charitable work of the church here in the UK and to relieve members of the church and others who are in conditions of need, hardship, sickness or distress. In order to do this the charity;

Invests in farms which it rents out to its subsidiary companies; any profits are returned to the charity under covenant.

Acquires land and builds purpose built meeting houses in which members can worship and receive instruction. Assists individuals suffering through hardship, sickness and distress as needed. Provides advice and guidance to church members on the church's worldwide welfare and humanitarian aid programmes.

From reading the 363s Annual Return that each company is required to submit it appears that LDS (Welfare) decided to free up some cash through issuing more shares. LDS (Welfare) previously had an Issued Share Capital of 100 Ordinary shares valued at £1 each, giving an aggregate nominal value of issued shares of £100. In 2004 they upped this considerably, increasing this to £10,000,000. All shares are held by the Corporation of the Presdiding Bishop. On 31st March 2005 the Presiding Bishop became the sole owner of the charity/company and 50 shares previously held by the Corporation of the President of the Church were transferred over. On 2nd June 2005 the company's status was changed to a private limited company.

(NB On closer examination it appears that LDS (Great Britain) also released a further £10m through issuing shares and was also transferred to the sole ownership of the Corporation of the Presiding Bishop)

Some more highlights include;

The Group (Welfare plus subsidiary companies) had a surplus of £147,000. Helped by a donation from it's sister charity LDS (Great Britain). This money went into the reserves, which now total £9,207,000.

'Direct Charitable Expenditure' for the year was £7,243,000. This is all well and good until you learn what counts as 'charity'; £5,279,000 was 'construction' costs' (remember, one of the purposes of this charity is to build meeting houses for the church) £37k was depreciation, £663k was on 'physical facilities', £322k on 'operating costs' and £50k on 'professional fees' (probably the auditors from PwC) which left £892,000 for 'charitable contributions'.

2004 was a tough year down on the farm. The trustees report that due to a wet harvest that prolonged the season there was a drop in both yield and quality, which hit profits. They indicate a 12% drop from the previous year. Yet in the accounts 'profits covenanted from farm activities' was £472,000 this year, compared with £855,000 last year. So profits might have fallen by 12% but what was passed on to the charity fell by nearly half.

Staff costs were high, accounting for £1,142,000 over the year. There is 1 employee earning between £60-70k and 2 earning between £50-60k.

As with LDS (Great Britain) there is an outstanding loan to the boys in Salt Lake, the amount outstanding on this one is £52,077,000. It appears on the accounts but there is no interest charge and no fixed repayment conditions.

The last 2 pages of the submission don't seem to have been posted on the charity commission's website, i have emailed them requesting them as this generally provides a neat summary of the year.

Taking into account all of the income and expenditure of the church in the UK i have managed to make the following calculations;

The church (GB) received £23,488,000 in 'unrestricted funds' (tithing) and £2,663,000 in 'restricted funds' (Fast, Humanitarian Aid, Missionary Support etc etc). Together with interest, profits from selling assets their total income was £27,077,000.

LDS (Welfare) received £7,433,000 (£500k of which was from LDS (GB). Taking that into account the total amount of money, from all sources, coming in to the church in this country was £34,010,000. (NB The £5m from SLC i mentioned in the previous post wasn't a donation as such, but rather a cancelled loan re-payment. No actual money changed hands)

Money that was made available to those in need by way of 'grants', 'humanitatian aid' and 'charitable contributions' by both organisations was £1,077,000. (NB I have not included the £500k transfer from one to the other, even though LDS (GB) counted this as a charitable donation, as i included it in the above calculation).

The cost of staff, travel, admin, supplies, equipment, auditing, money lost exchanging currencies, physical facilities and operating costs came to £15,507,000. That doesn't include building new meeting houses, depreciation etc.

In other words the church spent 14 times more money administering itself than it spent on the 'needy'; or calculated another way the church spent a little over 3% of it's incoming money on the needy.

Fast Offering and Humanitarian Aid Fund contributions came to £1,571,000, so even if we calculate that money church members donated specifically for the needy, the church only spent 70% of that on what the members had in mind when they donated it.

This is interesting because every now and then there is talk in church of maybe supporting a charity involved in the developing world, or that specifically helps the homeless or whoever.

There is always someone who sticks their hand up and cautions that alot of these charities spend money on their overheads, but you know that if you donate through the church that every single penny will find it's way through to those in need.

I think this has demonstrated that assertion to be unsupported by the evidence.

"Any bishop who does what you are describing is an aberration."

The funny thing here is that the mormons like to hold up their "lay" leaders as an example of how much they love the church.

The reality is, that mormons are exposed to or subjected to whatever whimisical or deceptive practices said bishops decide to employ. Why? No formal training, just a green handbook of instructions to read through.

Pay stubs are just as effective in determining how much a person is making throughout the year, it doesn't have to be a W2.

The members of the "church" are open to so much abuse and misinterpretation due to their lay "clergy", that to describe one who does as an "aberration" is questionable at best.

The Church is registered as both a charity and a company, and as such it is required to be registered with the Charity Commission and Companies House.

If it weren’t for British law, we might never get a peek behind the financial curtain of mormonism.

If it’s this bad in GB, I can just imagine the scope here in the USA.

It’s not like they have $4B+ to “invest” in building up the empi...I mean kingdom right?

Council on the Disposition of the Tithes

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Council on the Disposition of the Tithes (also known as the Council on the Disposition of Tithing) is a leadership body in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, composed of the First Presidency, the Presiding Bishopric, and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. The Council determines how the tithing funds of the church will be spent. The Council oversees revenue, investments and expenditures valued at billions of dollars per year.

While the Church employs an independent auditing department which provides an annual report to the Church[1], it has not published full financial reports since 1959.

The Council was established by church founder Joseph Smith, Jr. on 8 July 1838.[2] As of April 2009, the members of the Council are:

ejonesie,

What the n00b mormon doesn’t understand is that in Reagan’s day, there was no Internet to reveal the
perverted pagan secrets of mormonism.

Reagan, a politician, needed votes. Like all politicians, he spoke and said nice things wherever he went
about potential friends. He hired mormons in his administration.

He never became a mormon.
He never left the True Biblical Christ for the fake mormon, created Christ.

The n00b should consider just why that is so...

I’m not convinced it isn’t a retread, but time will tell.

However, would like to add, that I am really starting to be convinced that there is some web site or two where mormons can go to to cut and paste. If you read articles about Romney and that France accident he had, mormons will post exactly what was posted here. I even compared them and they show up on dozens of sites reporting on the event. Oh, and that lost girl story, exactly the same.

SLC lds really does think everyone but them is as stupid as pudding. So all the pictures of Reagan with mormons, the issues with Romney, the bogus archeology evidence - it's all the same - no variation of thought.

Very creepy.

So, you've brought your W2 to tithing settlement? In December?

Straw Man argument. "Personal observation" as in seeing a widow get help from the Church, who now controls almost every waking minute of her life with "callings" for one damn thing after another. Same with the others - the Church doesn't seem to want them to have any free time at all. Then there is a guy who had to take out a $35,000 second mortgage to fund his kids going on overseas missions.

There are some good family values they have but still too much of a cult that milks their believers dry in money and time under the guise of a "calling".

Not a straw man argument. You specifically said "I live right smack in the middle of 'em and every word, from PERSONAL OBSERVATION, is spot on." That appears to be a claim that "every word" in the statement made in that post was accurate. And I challenged you on that by asking if you had personal observation on one of the specific claims. That is not straw man.

mormon 'archaeologists' used to give talks at the wards how they found the real proof of ancient cities and pass around 'nephite coins' then tell how antimormon scholars rejected their evidence and/or the govt stepped in and made their dig sites off limits

there was even an old guy who said Jesus visited the ancient egyptians became the god horus and taught them mormonism then the white egyptians were destroyed by nubians who threw down the mormon temples and replaced them with their animal headed gods

So say honey when are you going to defend lds, or are you just going to do the cutesie thingie?

maybe the lack of archeological evidence is because the nephites built a flintstone spaceship put the sheep horses everdamnthing aboard and escaped the dark and loathesomes the old fashioned way--blasted off for kolob and gave the sioux indians the finger

supposedly the bom says they built wooden submarines so a flintstone rocketship is the next logical step

No, doesn’t matter how much you “spice up” the meal, it’ll just be ignored, as if it was never posted. Doesn’t matter the content or the truthfulness of the information.

That’s the way it is with TBM’s, won’t read anything that isn’t approved in advance by SLC.

The neat thing though, is that those surfing the web for keywords come across these posts. So it’s a good counter to the efforts of SLC in trying to purge the internet of all the truth about the “church”.

I found one article that exposed 75%-90% of CA church farm production is sold to premium market and yet is tax exempt...but it was written in '87...you know the response i would have gotten from that

official sources are mumshut about church welfare...

another article showing a peanut butter plant that sells all its production to public pantries for 90c a jar, the author made it sound like they were bill gates philanthropists at the same time asking people (not just morg) to go there and volunteer a few hrs...i have to wonder, even with a jar of pnut butter that cheap, nonprofit plant + free labor + peanuts grown on their own farms by their volunteer morgs...it just isn't in their nature to give things away breaking even maybe

you know lds are doing free charity for gentiles if they wear ugly yellow shirts with lds in red letters and one out of five has a video camera to document...to make the most of a pr moment...none of the pics showed yellow shirts so maybe they're making a dime

one bit of fresh news they are closing many of the small canneries in slc because a new mechanized one is taking over...less volunteerism and more profit

anyone whos a mormon know deseret industries is the morg welfare arm and deseret industries is what is printed on the cans of food they hawk for morgs home food storage (at least 1yr recommended 2)...even if you have a savalot next door they press you to buy the mormon stuff...some of the dehyfrated good last 30yrs so it is good quality for shtf...but things like canned vegs and flour, grain (grinding your own flour is a big thing) you can buy these at sams club...but you're not supporting the lds that way

anyone who grew up mormon knows deseret ind. is the slc welfare and also the source of these long term storage food you are supposed to buy, so a statement that the church welfare doesn't sell more food than it gives away is kinda prevaricating from the beginning...no surprise

an example of the same closed circle is the church traditional fundraiser called 'dime a dip dinners' (these days they're probably quarter a dip) they ask members to bring 2 covered dishes to the dinner, the put all the dises on a table and you pay a dime (.25c now?) a spoonful and fix your plate...you buy the food, fix it, bring it, and pay to eat...closed system

they are fun and a chance to eat other folks cooking but you see what im driving at kind of a pattern

being raised in the church all i knew was mormonism i remember asking a church leader what being 'born again' meant...he said so help me that it was a cult belief...!...and when i got out i didnt want -anything- to do with religion, and in a conversation someone proselytizing said to me that God gave salvation as a free gift if you wanted it...totally alien to my experience and i thought ah, this must be the 'cult' he was talking about

God got me in the door, it might be the back door but thats where the kitchen is...peace~A.~

I posted up thread, an expose done in GB about the LDS “charities” and how little actually goes to the “charities”. The laws in GB concerning “non-profits” are quite different, so it was pretty enlightening to see. If that amount of fraud is going on in GB, I can only imagine the scale here. It’s pretty damning.

Funny story (I think), while I was an active mormon, my wife was starting to get into food storage and the like through deseret. She was going to go and “volunteer” to prep and can like many good mormons do.

Asked me how much grain and flour to bring back. I asked her what she intended to do with it if she bought it. She looked at me funny for a minute, thought about it and said “make bread”. I replied “how?”. She doesn’t bake bread unless it’s already frozen or in a blue can, forget about mixing, kneading, etc. all of the ingredients needed for baking bread.

Needless to say, she didn’t bring any of it home. I just don’t know that many folks really put much thought (reason) into what they’re being told to do (faith) by the church.

The faith over reason dilemma is a tough one for many of us ex-mo’s with active family members to contend with.

I never heard of the “dime a dip” dinners. At all of the church functions I attended, main courses and sides were few. A lot of bread and sweets, but not much in the way of real food.

Interesting...

I got this E-MAIL last Friday night:

Hello Everyone,

I apologize for the very short notice, but I wanted to let you all know that there is going to be a gathering tomorrow after church to welcome back Pastor *** from Mozambique.
This is pretty informal, just a time to visit with *** and share some lunch. I am asking that if you can, to please bring something to share.
So far, pulled pork and sloppy joes are being provided for sandwiches, as well as various sides and desserts, such as mac and cheese, chips, potato salad, cookies, and a pie.
Any sides, desserts, or drinks you could bring would be great (vegetables, potatoes, pies, cakes, cookies, soft drinks, etc.)

You don't really need to respond back to this, just bring something if you can, or even if you can't please join us to welcome back Pastor ***.

Like I said, this is pretty informal. If you have any questions, feel free to call me at 989-5555. Thanks!

Arnold
