Romney Struggles For Right Pitch
Fiscal Times ^ | February 20, 2012 | Sam Youngman

Mitt Romney isn't singing anymore.

A little more than two weeks after his off-key but enthusiastic renditions of "America the Beautiful" captured the spirit of a candidate who had won the Florida primary and seemed on the verge of locking down the Republican nomination for president, Romney is back in lackluster mode.

It's not just that Romney is facing a surprising challenge in his native state of Michigan from Rick Santorum, the former Pennsylvania senator who vaulted into contention in the state-by-state nomination battle with wins in Missouri, Minnesota and Colorado.

What alarms many Republican Party leaders and strategists are the signals they see from Romney's campaign as he struggles to support the notion that he is the inevitable nominee to face President Barack Obama in the November election.

They see the former Massachusetts governor as a candidate whose confidence appears shaken, and whose strategy and message now can seem off-key.

Gone are the vibrant rallies Romney held in Florida, replaced in Michigan by a series of low-energy round-table discussions.

This week, Romney often rushed through his stump speech as if he had a plane to catch, and made awkwardly curious remarks - "I love you" to a business group, and, "The trees are the right height" in Michigan - that made him seem particularly desperate for approval.

"I really count body language for a lot," said Republican strategist Rich Galen, adding with a joke that Romney, who ran for president in 2008, might have "hit the wall at the 5 1/2-year mark" of campaigning.

And then there were the two opinion pieces Romney wrote for newspapers - ....

NOW...SEEM off-key?

Myth's 'message' has been tone-deaf for years.

The fact that Romney has to struggle to articulate his views on anything, is evidence he has none.
Romney is struggling to articulate conservative views because he is not now nor ever been a conservative.
Romney is as phoney as a three dollar bill.

The right “pitch” is for him to withdraw from the race and slither back to MA and the GOP ruling class; apologizing and kissing all of our arses along the way for lying and trying to buy the nomination.

[Gone are the vibrant rallies Romney held in Florida ]

What? His couple of hundred compared to Newt’s thousands? Romney has never had vibrant rallies or support. He just smeared anyone else who garnered strong support and enthusiasm. What he did to Newt in FL shows what kind of person Romney is. I’ll never forget the way he kicked Newt on national TV while he was down either calling him “sad” and “flailing.”.

He is like the dorks in high school that ran for student government.

There is something awkward and abnormal about his mannerisms and demeanor.

Everything about his screams “phony!!!”.

To communicate your core beliefs, you first must have some.

When you’re a weathervane, no one will trust your sense of direction.

When someone is struggling to find the right pitch, the obvious question is “so when are you getting traded to Pittsburgh?”

You’ve nailed it.

The right pitch is two words: “I quit.”

Go away, RINOmney.

Start a “No standards club,” with fellow RINO McJerkface.

“But...but...he said he likes cars...and lakes...and loves America?”

And not just the big lakes either, but he even remembers the small, inland lakes. And not just any old cars, but real American cars. I think if you pressed him, he would prefer Michigan cranberries to Cape Cod’s, though that my be a flip-flop from his 2003 position.

The perfect "pitch" by ANY of the GOP candidates is to come hard & fast right at Obama on his record -- he gets enough softballs from the Media...

Meanwhile the MSM and the GOP-E are working to define Gingrich and his pitch!

There is NO “right pitch” for Romney. Even if he were “pitch perfect” we’d all see it as the insincere lie that it is. As the “Aay Anything Kid” saying what he must to get votes, there is no “right pitch” that the base will believe.
