Billionaire Sheldon Adelson Says He Might Give $100M To Newt Gingrich Or Other Republican

Sheldon Adelson plays as stubbornly in politics as he does in business. So the criticisms that he’s trying to personally buy the presidential election for Newt Gingrich are met with a roll of the eyes. “Those people are either jealous or professional critics,” Adelson tells me during his first interview since he and his wife began funneling $11 million, with another $10 million injection widely expected, into the former speaker’s super PAC, Winning Our Future. “They like to trash other people. It’s unfair that I’ve been treated unfair—but it doesn’t stop me. I might give $10 million or $100 million to Gingrich.”

Adelson, 78, certainly can afford to: With a net worth of roughly $25 billion, that $11 million, which jolted Gingrich’s flatlining presidential bid back to life, equates to 0.044% of his fortune. For someone with a $1 million net worth, the equivalent would be $440, or a two-night stay at Adelson’s Venetian casino. Adelson could personally fund an entire presidential campaign—say, $1 billion or so—and not even notice. Sheldon Adelson Could Give $1 Billion To Gingrich And Not Notice.

Is that fair? “I’m against very wealthy people attempting to or influencing elections,” he shrugs. “But as long as it’s doable I’m going to do it. Because I know that guys like Soros have been doing it for years, if not decades. And they stay below the radar by creating a network of corporations to funnel their money. I have my own philosophy and I’m not ashamed of it. I gave the money because....

Outstanding statement!!!!

Fight the bastards the way THEY fight. Soros is a POS socialist slug that couldn’t survive without parasiting off of capitalism - just like ALL socialist/communist countries.

Thank you Mr. Adelson.

I wouldn’t really mind, I have a friend who is a big fan of Mr. Beck and also happens to be a fan of Santorum and keeps me posted on the hate Newt crap that GB spews. You sound a lot like my friend. Are you a Beck fan?

Personally I think GB has gone off the deep end and I think everything is now all about him. I think he didn’t believe he got proper praise for the 912 DC Tea Party event and that is why he set up his on DC event the next year so close to the date of the proposed 2nd March. His attacks on Newt have been over the top and he has resorted to attacking Newt’s supporters as a mob. I’ve been told I’m drinking the Gingrich “kool aid” despite my having lived through and having been paying attention to the Reagan Presidency and Newt’s years as Speaker. I know he has advanced the Conservative agenda, I wasn’t in an alcholic fog during these years. I believe GB is wanting to manipulate this election process.

lol... I did go to Israel with Glenn Beck for Restoring Courage. I appreciate Glenn’s opinion but do not fall in line with him on everything. I think he does sincere, honest research, and yes he is in fact his own biggest fan... LOL just calling it the way I see it...

I respect his research team and the sincere effort they make to find the TRUTH regardless of where the truth ends up.

On that note, I take great issue with the fact that he will not have Tim Cox on his show in a very long time, but at least has acknowledged in the past the limited success of GOOOH.

Honestly, I think he wants to see the GOOOH candidate selection process work but is not willing to put his name behind it at this time.

I hope this answers your question.

Brandon:...Mr. Speaker, you've said that personal issues should not be brought up in politics, yet many in the general public and the media do not agree with you....How do you intend to beat the negative media and reobtain (sp) the trust of the American people, obtain the GOP nomination and beat Pres. Obama...?

Speaker Gingrich: By being honest and being open. (Applause) People can look at my life (applause), I'm 68 years old, a grandfather....I've lived a long life and I've done some things I've had to go to God to seek forgiveness and reconciliation for. I also think on balance I've worked very, very hard to be the kind of citizen and person that would be worthy of your trust and the presidency. People have to make up their minds. (Major applause.)

Excellent reminder, Miss Jane :)

Rick may be cute
but he’s no NEWT
He can’t seal the deal like my NEWT can
‘cause when NEWT speaks, the GOP-E freaks
so my HEART be-longs to NEWT’s plan

When NEWT invites
some righteous fights
He lights up the stage with solutions
‘cause NEWT imparts to conservative hearts,
bold ideas, proven plans, no confusion

You know that NEWT’s
red-hot refutes
will flatten the rest in a heart-beat.
His POTUS surge will soon re-emerge
and Obama he will UN-SEAT

GO NEWT!!!

Next debate tomorrow night

“Well, if you want today’s candidates to knock on 100 million or so doors to run for election, they would have to start back in the middle ages.”

I wasn’t suggesting the candidates go out and knock on doors. I’m suggesting if we want a real democracy where candidates and subsequent winners actually listen to we the people, instead of only a handful of big donors, they need to depend on the efforts of their volunteer supporters. Would the nation be better off having an army of volunteers spending their time working for Newt etc, rather than having a few high rollers fill up the MSM coffers? That’s where all of this big money ends up - going to the media company coffers to do what they do best, brainwashing the masses, either to buy something or sell something or vote for someone. The media makes enough money BS’ng us.

Please, let this be true. Adelson would be making history. And by history, I mean legacy type history. He’s know in the business world, but this would make him a household name. Go for it!

Misleading headline. Adelson engaged in a bit of hyperbole to make a point, as in “I might give Newt a gazillion dollars and I might give him fifty dollars. Whatever I do, it’s legal and it’s nobody’s business but mine.”

In any case, it’s a great profile article, giving more insight into what motivates Adelson, a guy who wants to be the conservative counter-balance to Soros, and for good reasons. Well worth the read. Forbes will be publishing an extended version of the profile piece online tomorrow. Can’t wait!

I do hope Adelson gives more money to Newt’s PAC, and lots of it, and I hope he does it VERY soon. Whether he does or not, I’d never stay anywhere in Vegas other than the Venetian, and I’d make sure to let management know that Adelson is the reason why.

I believe that GB’s research doesn’t go to truth anymore but goes where he wants it to go. I’m suspicious of his motives and the vitriol he has for Newt Gingrich and for the Newt supporters. By his new definition of a mob his gathering in DC was a mob. He has repeated the lies and distortions about Newt after they have been disproven. I don’t believe it’s just his ego , I think he has either an ulterior motive or has become unstable or both.

I sure hope this is true. Newt’s main problem is getting his message out. He is doing the best he can but it is not enough. I think people would like what they hear from Newt if only they could hear. Look at the effect the money that Mitt is throwing into Michigan to thwart Santorum. Mitt is slowly rising in the polls. I think a $100M would do the trick for Newt and be a game changer. GO NEWT GO!

Have you watched his evening news show on GBTV? If not you have made a judgement not supported by the facts. I challenge you to watch GBTV and if you come to the same conclusion explain the facts that led to that conclusion.

I don’t think Newt would be a better President than Rick Santorum. I think he would be an “acceptable” candidate that I would vote for in the general election if he wins the primary. Until then I will continue to support Rick Santorum in the primary AND in the general election if the current trends keep up.

Having said that will YOU commit to supporting Rick Santorum in the general election when he wins the primary as I have committed to voting for Newt if he wins?

I encourage Newt supporters to keep up the pressure on Mittens... This will continue to take votes away from him and direct them to Rick Santorum. A soft endorsement of Rick Santorum by the Newt team will effectively defeat Mitt in the primary.. which is what needs to happen now!

Next, I would like to see the Newt team publicly pledge to support Rick Santorum in the General election!

“Newt supporters need to stop attack Rick....”

You attack Newt within your posts and then instruct his supporters not to attack Santorum. I find your posts disingenuous as hell, but that trait is consistent with your candidate, Saint Ricky.

You can certainly support your dear Ricky, I will support the one candidate that is actually qualified...... and can actually do the job.

President Newt Gingrich—”Our beloved republic deserves nothing less.”

Please show me where I attacked Newt? In fact I have stated that I will vote for him in the General election, yet the Newt folks have not given Rick Santorum the same courtesy which makes me think that some of the Newt team really wants Mitt to win..... I said SOME.. not ALL... I suspect the overwhelming number of voters who are pulled away from Mitt will go to Rick Santorum not because they think he is better but because it appears that he is going to win.... that is the facts and an honest analysis of the facts... The truth is that many voters view the primary as a horse race and throw support behind the horse they think will WIN not the one they think is best... we don’t have to like the facts but we do need to be honest with our analysis. Do you agree?
