Running mates? Santorum campaign says Mitt Romney 'has done deal with Ron Paul'

After Wednesday's GOP debate, in which Ron Paul and Mitt Romney repeatedly attacked Rick Santorum over his 16-year record in Congress, the former Pennsylvania hinted that something nefarious was going on.
'You have to ask Congressman Paul and Governor Romney what they've got going together,' Santorum told reporters in the spin room in Mesa, Arizona. 'Their commercials look a lot alike and so do their attacks.'
Santorum's top strategist John Brabender went even further, charging that the two men had "joined forces" and were coordinating attacks against his man.

Running mates? Rick Santorum's team suggested that Mitt Romney and Ron Paul have formed an alliance
It actually makes some sense for now. If Mitt can’t get the conservatives, maybe he can get the nuts.
Saint Rick is way off on this. I wish he had prepared more for the debate instead of complaining of a conspiracy that does not exist. I still plan to vote for him, but he is making it difficult to do and may be out of the race before I can vote for him.
They sure seemed intent on keeping Santorum down last night...on the face of it, Ron Paul should be a lot more opposed to Willard Romney than Santorum, but that didn’t appear to be the case last night.
Just a distraction by Team Romney. Chris Christie will be Mittens’ running mate.
While I seriously doubt Paul would be a running mate (who picks the 75 year old guy as VP?). it is actually an intriguing alignment politically. As much as I trash Romney, it may be a very smart move. If the anti-Obama movement and the Ron Paul brigade is combined, that is a clear electoral winner. The Ron Paul base will splinter after he is done...some will still vote for the Republican, and some might even go Dem...but many will sit home on election day.
I can see that. Mitt’s attitude towards the base is “screw you! you aren’t voting for me. I’ll win without you and then I’llscrew you into the turf from the White House”.
If Mitt is “courting” Paul, it’s that he wants Paul to lay off of him in VA.
I’ve always asked why Ron Paul seems to give Romney a total pass on everything. He never attacks or questions him. Maybe Romney and him have some kind of deal, I don’t know if it’s for the VP slot though.
Maybe it was just coincidence that Paul didn’t go after Romney.
Maybe Paul is unaware of the fact that Romney has a long established record of opposing the conservative and Constitutional principles that Paul claims to support consistently.
Maybe Paul forgot to go after Romney.
Maybe Paul just likes Romney, all politics aside.
Maybe Paul hasn’t gone after Romney in the past, and he just wants to be consistent.
I do not believe for an instant that Romney will have Paul as his running mate should he win the nomination. Much more likely to offer it to someone like Rubio to try and solidify his weakness amongst conservatives.
Mitt promised him Secretary of Defense
If Santorum thinks Paul’s commercials against him look too much like Romney’s, does that mean Santorum will pick Obama as his running mate? Their commercials look the same against Mitt.
Exactly why I said it makes sense “for now”.
In fact, putting on my tin foil hat I wonder if the democrats aren’t playing along.

I’ve read in other sources that Mitt and Paul are close friends, so, a coordinated attack might not be too far fetched.
Team Santorum need to tread lightly when making such allegations.
Bachmann had problems by making allegations against Team Perry, etc., and she couldn’t back them up.
If Team Santorum has proof, show it. Otherwise, shut up.
With Christie as Romney’s VP pick and hatchet man, I’m really trying to understand what Team Romney has promised Ron Paul.
Treasury secretary would be my guess.
Honestly its the only position I would consider Paul for but I doubt Romney would have any real plan to follow through.
There are a lot of Paulbot nuts out there that believe in
Mitt Romney / Ron Paul 2012.

Paul teamed up in Iowa with Mitt to take out Newt, and is doubling down with the same strategy to take out Santorum.
He may be nuts, but he's got enough dumbies on his side to win this thing for the Mittster.
I don’t like earmarks but I know they’re a product of a overgrown government and virtually anyone who has been in congress for more than 10 minutes has used them to some extent.
That said, Ron Paul has asked for a LOT of earmarks.
I like a lot of Paul’s ideas but if he’s not opposing Romney, then forget Paul.
All of this will make voting in the GOP primary in Virginia a total waste of time.
Steven Hayes, on FNC, just came out and said it's true. Paul has admitted there have been phone calls between the two camps and that Paul wants a platform at the convention. Personally, I think he wants a spot at the table for Rand.
Keep in mind, though, that to the best of my recollection I haven't heard anyone on Fox mention the winner of last night's debate....Newt Gingrich.
Paul is a libertarian and Romney is a liberal.
The only difference between the two is one wants to control spending and the other doesn’t care.
Neither has any real concern for social issues, only fake concern during campaign season.
I can see this, and I can see it because it’s Romney’s ace in the hole at a brokered convention if it gets to that.
I'm still believing it will take the alliance of Santorum and Newt to take Romney out, neither of them seems to be able to do it alone.
How that would take shape, I have no idea, but if one or the other were to leave the race, Mitt would destroy the one who was left. I'm not sure Mitt can take out both at once. After last night, I'm thinking Santorum understands what he's up against, I hope he can survive this onslaught. Good grief, we are getting robo-calls from Dave freaking Camp against Santorum; it makes me sick how Santorum is being vilified.
First, your ridiculing Santorum because he is a man of faith is not clever or attractive. There is enough anti-Christian bigotry in this country already without you adding to it. Would you ridicule a Jew for his faith? Would you ridicule a Muslim? I realize it is politically correct for people like you to ridicule sincere Christians but it does not help your argument.
Second, Ron Paul has been working to help Romney get the nomination all along. Paul never attacks Romney or Obama. He only attacks conservatives. He spent tens of millions running attack ads against Newt in Iowa. He attacked Michelle Bachmann over and over.
Third, Santorum did fine in the debate. Could he have done better? Of course. But he stood his ground when he was ganged up on two against one and provoked by Romney supporters in the crowd.
Paul will always voice the strongest opposition to the candidate most in favor of Big Government and the initiation of force against the citizens. Note that Paul didn't attack Newt last night, either.
That would be geographical suicide.
Romney would have to go afar to get someone who could bring a wide swath of voters. Sounds like Paul to me.
Let us negate all that by electing Newt or Rick.
Paul and Mitt definitely did a tag team on Rick last night. One of the Fox contributors used that term this morning and I had used it on the live thread.
They were beyond vicious, although Mitt tried to soften it a (very) little bit.
Any two-term senator is gonna be vulnerable on some votes. I hate to even think what Romney’s votes would have been in the senate.
The attack worked in the sense that Santorum was on the defensive all night and had to defend himself so much he came across as a little frantic.
I really came away hating Ron Paul whereas before I’d considered him an amusing but annoying little nut case.
If he is stupid enough to think Romney will give him to time of day if Romney gets the nomination, I don’t feel a bit sorry for him.
but maybe the son as vp is the deal
The fix is in. Somebody in the beltway over enough Vodkas will spill the beans. I really do smell a rat.
Team Mittens has made the calculation that the Red States will never vote for The Kenyan (red state turnout be damned) and that Obama’s standing in the purple swing states is so bad that they will go RINO to win the purple states. So Christie is their VP pick. Ask Ann Coulter.
Newt stayed out of the infighting last night and looked the better for it.
He was very good in all his comments, but not sure he had a ‘come to Jesus’ moment that would change the momentum of the campaign.
I really like Newt but I’ll not knock Santorum here as in comparison to the tag team of Ron Paul and Romney, he really does seem like a saint.
If not, I do fear the tactical alliance of Mitt and RuPaul will take this thing.
Mitt Romney attacks Santorum because he is the biggest threat to his nomination.
Ron Paul attacks Santorum because Santorum is an easy target for Paul's “bloated government” one trick pony show.
Paul and Rom. were like two bullies on the playground last night.
It was beyond obvious that they were in cahoots. Steve Hayes said Paul team admits that they have been talking regularly, ie conniving with, Mittens and CO.
If I was Rick, I don’t know if I would want to continue to put up with this vitriolic assault. I’d have to ask myself if it’s worth it to give up my peace of mind and my life for
an uncertain future. He is a courageous fighter but at some point, you have to ask yourself at what price victory?
It’s clear that the fix is in for Mittens nomination with many, many forces working for this end besides him and his evil band of brothers.
And those think he will be a good choice to run against Hussein will come to rue the day.
Talk about the odd couple!!
How specifically does the heinously big government RomneyCare square with Paul’s alleged small government economic brilliance?
“Disturbing” is a good word to describe it, Ls.
Forget the “great” fiscal policies.
The man, in addition to being double bagger ugly, is insane. And he’s proven to be a conniving little weasel as well.
Daddy gotta go to bat for baby boy, Randie.
Go away Paul family, all of you.
*needs fixing*
And hes proven to be a creepy, sniveling, conniving little weasel as well.
:-)
Whatever deal has been made, it was not for Ron, but Ron’s son, Rand.
There you have it. A Romney/Paul ticket would be the worst thing imaginable for conservatives. If that happens, we lose everything.
I've noticed that there are either a lot of hypocrites or outright atheists on this board who have been mocking Santorum lately because of his faith. They would have him deny it like Peter just to win over so-called moderates and independents.
