Krauthammer On Obama's Algae Policy: "I Think He's On To Something"
Real Clear Politics ^ | 2/23/12 | staff

Charles Krauthammer responds to President Obama's suggestion that the U.S. turn to algae for energy production. After making his case, Krauthammer goes head-to-head with Washington Post columnist Charles Lane who defends Obama's energy policy.

"I was impressed by the president's analysis of this situation where we have no control over the global price of oil," Charles Krauthammer said. "We're dependent on oil from unfriendlies. And he says, as we heard, drilling for oil to relieve our dependency is not a solution, it's not a plan. He said we have to go to clean energy. He talks about something really revolutionary today. Algae. A $14 million grant for the development of algae. It's not oil. His solution is algae. And because we know that the Secretary of Energy is physicist that won the Nobel Prize, the president knowing this stuff said that one of the reasons we should do this is because we can grow algae here in the United States."

"Now, it happens that algae will grow on anywhere on earth. I looked it up while I was away for those three days. You thought I was sunning myself. I did research. It grows in oceans, in lakes and ponds, in your swimming pool when the pool man is on vacation. In snow, in ice, on soil, on turtles, on sloths, the bark of trees and rocks. Why are we drilling for oil? We are the Saudi Arabia of rocks. We have a mountain range called the Rockies and we are allowing ourselves to be dominated by these oil producers. I think he's on to something here that is truly revolutionary. Why would you build a pipeline, the Keystone pipeline with real oil from Canada to put in real refineries and put in real existing

“I Think He’s On To Something”

Correction: “I think he’s on something. What’s he smoking?”

Who, Charles or Obama? Actually, we know Obama’s on something, and it looks like Charles is sniffing the same stuff. This sort of comment is why Krauthammer has no credibility, at least with me.

Obama’s full of it on two counts.

First, by spending us $14 trillion into debt he’s degraded the currency - oil has an intrinsic value, dollars have a value that can vary with national policy. Our policy under Obama is such that our dollars have lost value relative to the intrinsic worth of petroleum - consequently, the price of raw crude goes up to compensate.

Secondly, to the extent that the problem above is exacerbated by speculators, Obama could reverse the direction of speculation overnight by opening the Gulf, the Arctic, the coasts, and various public lands to drilling, as well as approving Keystone. But he won’t do that - as K-hammer points out, that would underut our algae strategy.

Apparently you missed the sarcasm in Krauthammer's comments. At the end he apologized for taking up so much time with drivel.

Clearly sarcasm. Baier even added after, “Tongue out of cheek.”

“Obama argues against oil because he’s right, it’s not going to happen overnight. But conservatives and Republicans have argued for 25 years to open up the Arctic. And what do Democrats argue in the ‘80s and the ‘90s and the last decade? ‘Oh, it will take three years or five.’

Yes, it takes 3 to 5 years to open up an oil producing site. Domestic production has indeed increased thanks to North Dakota and Obama has no problem taking credit for it. However, the big glaring hole in his new talking point is he had absolutely nothing to do with it.

Well the problem is we are so used to these turncoats being turncoats we completely EXPECT our side to seriously say something like this. Especially Krauthammer.

Not Krauthammer, too! The outcome of algae technology IS OIL dammit! Get a clue. You’re not going to do it in an adequate abundance like mother nature. Burning algae derived oil is every bit as polluting as Black Gold / Texas Tea.

“Tongue out of cheek,” host Bret Baier joked.

“I’m sorry that I brought the level of discussion so low,” Krauthammer joked back.

“I thought it was sarcasm, no ??”

Yes, Krauthammer was being sarcastic, at Obama’s well-deserved expense.

Next two lines of article:

“Tongue out of cheek,” host Bret Baier joked.

“I’m sorry that I brought the level of discussion so low,” Krauthammer joked back....

“How about the Arctic Wildlife Refuge? How about drilling on continental coast of the Atlantic or the Pacific? All these are shut down by the Democrats,” Krauthammer reminded Lane.

Well, while we’re at it, we could harvest my squirrels who run through, over, around, up and down with little backpacks to turbine the wind into battery packs.

I’m not kidding. I could probably generate 1/3 of my monthly bill with these rats.

But FUBO all the same. Drill here, drill now, send the muslims back into the nothing they are.
