~Favorite Car Songs~

*"I Can't Drive 55" -Sammy Hagar*

One foot on the brake and one on the gas, hey!
Well, there's too much traffic, I can't pass, no!
So I tried my best illegal move
A big black and white come and crushed my groove again!

CHORUS:
Go on & write me up for 125
Post my face, wanted dead or alive
Take my license n' all that jive
I can't drive 55! Oh No! Uh!

So I signed my name on number 24, hey!
Yeah the judge said, "Boy, just one more
I'm gonna throw your ass in the city joint"
Looked me in the eye, said, "You get my point?"
I said "Yeah!, Oh yea!"

CHORUS II:
Write me up for 125
Post my face, wanted dead or alive
Take my license, all that jive
I can't drive 55!
Oh, yea!

I can't drive 55! (four times)
Uh! (Solo)

When I drive that slow, you know it's hard to steer.
And I can't get my car out of second gear.
What used to take two hours now takes all day.
Huh - It took me 16 hours to get to L.A.!

CHORUS:
Go on & write me up for 125
Post my face, wanted dead or alive
Take my license n' all that jive
I can't drive 55!

No, no, no, I can't drive...(I can't drive 55!)
I can't drive... (I can't drive 55!)
I can't drive 55!

"She Runs Hot" by Little Village

Sittin' on the line
Tryin' to change her mind
Red light, yellow light, green light time.
You're standing on it buddy
But she's chilly as a Tastee Freeze
Ease it over, son
I'll show you how she runs
Screamin' like a demon
When the quarter mile comes
Crankcase cookin', that's her manifold destiny
Now she might run cold for you
She runs hot for me.
She runs hot for me
She runs hot for me
She runs hot for me
Now she might run cold for you
She runs hot for me
She's got a fire in her veins
That's high octane
When her heart starts pumpin'
Her cylinders are jumpin'
Then I give it to her slow
And she gives me back the low ET's
Burnin' down the line
Ten seconds time
Half an hour later
I can still accelerate her 'till we're out of Hardin County
And in another Galaxy---
Now she might run cold for you
She runs hot for me
She runs hot for me
She runs hot for me
She runs hot for me
Now she might run cold for you
She runs hot for me

Good morning, Army Bro! We're under a heavy deadline at work - may be getting overtime this weekend.

Nos genuflectitur ad non princeps sed Princeps Pacem!

This one's off the beaten path, but it's a great song and brings back really great memories:

Oh Yeah (On the Radio) by Roxy Music:

Last verse:
It's some time since we said goodbye
And now we lead our separate lives
But where am I where can I go?
Driving alone to a movie show
So I turn to the sounds in my car

I was a bachelor then, stationed in Germany. I was driving my dream car, a Volvo 242GT, with a Bose sound system. Although stationed at Spangdahlem AB, I had several good friends up near Kiel, thanks to a TDY assignment. On long weekends, I'd make the 400 mile drive (in 5 hours), "driving alone" on the autobahn at 100 mph while "turning to the sounds in my car".

Good morning, Pro ((HUGS))

The week seemed to go by fast to me cause it’s been busy and I feel like I haven’t had enough time to get it done. I think I’m going to work through lunch to catch up.

I see daffodils in my neighbor’s yard - not fully opened yet. The trees (crabapple I think) outside my window here at work are popping open. Little birdies are sucking the blossoms - they look like a human sucking honeysuckle. LOL

I published a romance, called Hooked. I write women’s fiction. Character driven with some humor. I have one story in the works about 4 elderly crime solvers (so to speak) who are witches. But right now I’m working on my very first story - re-writing cause I’ve learned a thing or two since 2008 LOL - another romance. Thanks for asking.

Hope your weekend is wonderfully wonderlicious!

“Daddy’s Cup” By Drive-By Truckers

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=McW2NwWtR9E

Daddy’s Cup...

Before I could walk, I had a wrench in my hand
I was my Mama’s little angel and my Daddy’s second chance
He went end over end the first year he went pro
Lost part of his eyesight and he couldn’t race no more

But he never lost his touch when he got underneath the hood
He knew how to make them run and he knew one day he would
See his name in victory lane and engraved on that cup
Just like all them other crazy fools with racing in their blood

He would put me on his lap when he’d drive and I’d take the wheel
He’d say “What do you think about that son? How does she feel?
You just wait till them little legs get long enough to reach the gas
Once you put her on the floor one time there ain’t no turning back”

Every Saturday, he’d take me out to the garage
He’d take an empty bucket and fill it full of engine parts
He’s sit me down and pour em out in front of me on the floor
I’d have to tell him what each one was and what each one was for

We’d jump into the car and go down to the race that night
He’d tell me what each driver was doing wrong and what each one did right
He could always pick the winner before they ever took a curve
#3 might have the car but 43 has got the nerve

Before I turned 18 Daddy said “Now pretty soon
You’ll be old enough to drive but I’ll leave it up to you
I taught you all about it, taught you everything I know
You gotta have a car to do it and you gotta work and buy your own”

The first one I bought was a Mustang #2
Nobody kept’em any longer than they kept a pair of shoes
They started showing up at every used car lot in town
A V-8 on a go-cart, easy terms, no money down

Me and Daddy and my uncle took her home and tore her down
Checked her out real good, cleaned her up and bored her out
Took out all the seats, pulled the carpet off the floor
Knocked out all the glass and welded up the doors

The first time that I raced my qualifying was a shame
I started out way in the back and came back about the same
I pulled her in the pit, couldn’t look my Daddy in the eye
He said “If you quit now son, it’s gonna haunt you all your life”

It ain’t about the money or even being #1
You gotta know when it’s all over you did the best you could’ve done
Knowing that it’s in you and you never let it out
Is worse than blowing any engine or any wreck you’ll ever have

Since then I’ve wrecked a bunch of cars and I’ve broke a bunch of bones
It’s anybody’s race out there and I’ve learned to race my own
I’d shove em in the wall and I’d hit em from behind
I’d let them know that I was there, I’d let them know that track was mine

It’s been several years now since my Daddy passed away
But his picture’s on my dash every time I go to race
I lost more than I won but I ain’t gonna give up
Till they put me in the ground or Daddy’s name’s on that cup

The sound quality sucks, but it's my favorite version, the studio version is too "clean" sounding to me...

I'm surprised I got all the way to number 269 before I found a mention of "My Ol'55". Although this version (complete with cool video) is the Eagles, I am still moved whenever I hear the original by Tom Waits, especially in his older gravelly voice.

Referring again to the video- the '55 Chevy is such an American icon that I doubt anyone who ever heard the song thought of any other car, even though Chevy isn't mentioned in the song.

Whats growing now? Not much here. Some south side road ditch grass and the wheat fields are flirting with dormancy. Mostly equipment is being prepped for spring work. A few are doing early tillage and there are a lot of irrigation wells being serviced. Even new and replacement sprinklers being installed. All chilly work what with the wind blowing across the melting remnants of the last few snows lingering in the shadowed spots.

I've been working steady mostly 70 hour weeks forever it seems. We just bumped another 30% onto a contract so will be at least another 5+ weeks. Probably more because of doing some local stuff a few days here and there. Those are a welcome break from the 740 or so mile round trips into Texas and New Mexico. As good as it is for us I pray for drought breaking rains for our southern neighbors.

I should clarify my choice of music. It is not really a car song but many years ago I was a steel hauler in the oil patch and the 'large car' I drove was a big ole red W900 KW. Had all the rigging on the back, jin poles, two winches chains boomers...but what made it stand out was the custom made bug deflector on the front end. In stylish script of contrasting color were the words 'The Breeze'. The old truck made it seem easy, the largest load I remember with it was approx. 25 feet wide, 17 feet high and 180 feet long weighing ? 250 thousand pounds. Yes it had rear steering.

(((Hugs))) to you Kathy. I hope your spring returns to normal and all else is as God intends.
