Gingrich Pledges $2.50 Gas, Obama: 'It's Easy to Make Phony Promises'
Christian Science Monitor ^ | Reuters

Posted on 02/24/2012 8:24:24 AM PST by AnTiw1

Obama sought to deflect growing Republican attacks over rising prices at the pump, blaming recent increases on a mix of factors beyond his control, including tensions with Iran, hot demand from China, India and other emerging economies, and Wall Street speculators taking advantage of the uncertainty.

President Barack Obama hit back on Thursday at election-year Republican criticism of his energy policies, offering a staunch defense of his attempts to wean Americans off foreign oil and saying there is no "silver bullet" for high gasoline prices.

U.S. gasoline prices have jumped nearly 9 cents in the past week to an average of $3.61 a gallon, and are expected to rise further toward the crucial $4 mark through the summer driving season and the approach of the Nov. 6 election.

This is amazing. Obama says it’s easy to make promises? And who would know better.

If we had a balanced media, he’d be shredded for that comment.

Mr "I'll cut the deficit in half" then he doubles it.

Yeah, he knows what he's talking about here.

Let’s see: No domestic drilling, seal off the Gulf of Mexico while the Chinese drill for the Cubans, block the Keystone Pipeline, restrict refineries, demand special blends of oil that don’t exist, refuse to allow drilling in Alaska. It seems that those who control the flow of oil can jack up the price anytime they want, since we have told them we will pay anything through our policies.

Convert many of our vehicles to natural gas, free up domestic drilling, start drilling in the Gulf of Mexico close to the Chinese, allow drilling in Alaska, approve the Keystone Pipeline, start building refineries, and cut the blended gasoline insanity, and gas will drop to $1.50 per gallon.

Newt Gingrich has to be careful when he talks about bringing back $2.50/gallon gasoline. The way the Federal Reserve and other Central Banks are printing money, in a year or two it might take $10.00 to buy what $2.50 currently buys. The point being that there is a monetary side to the oil problem as well as a oil supply problem.

NEWT is the ONLY one talking about this, and has the answers.

AND....

Get rid of ethanol and we increase the mileage of every vehicle by 10-15%.

Exactly.

Without any threat on the Middle East supply of oil,the price of a barrel of oil will increase in proportion to the value of the dollar. I believe the vast increase in the cost of a barrel of oil (in US dollars)is the direct result of the decrease in the value of the US dollar, not threats from Iran. Of course refining capacity in the US doesn’t help our efforts either.

“Get rid of ethanol and we increase the mileage of every vehicle by 10-15%.”

Not to mention the wear and tear on vehicles running ethanol. I still have to put stabilizer into my gasoline to store it for any length of time. Ethanol “enhanced” gasoline will really muck up an engine if left for a couple of months.

No doubt that monetary policy is the largest factor.

Obama: 'It's Easy to Make Phony Promises'

All groups opposed to Obama need to get a copy of this video and audio, and hammer him with it. This is almost as golden as Romney's "I like to fire people" comment.

Something like:

OBAMA: It's Easy to Make Phony Promises

ANNOUNCER: And he should know... Barack Obama has made promise after promise.

(splice in video clips of various broken/insincere Obama promises -- cutting the deficit in half, closing Gitmo, no SuperPACs, saying he'll accept the blame for the economy if he didn't turn it around in 3 years, etc.)

ANNOUNCER: However, he is keeping one promise.

(splice in clip of Obama saying that gas prices will rise to 8 as a result of his energy plan)

(Add tag appropriate to candidate/organization)

I heard Neal Boortz this morning talking about the many different blends the enviro wackos have demanded causing the gas to go up too. He said every year around this time, the refineries all have to shut down and change their blends.

Here’s a campaign commercial already made for you...now just do it.

I’m for Newt, and love that he nailed O for supporting infantacide in the IL senate and the Media for hiding it.

So, Newt campaign, make a commercial showing HIS statement on gas prices and O’s retort.

Then show Obama’s litany of broken promises. Just pick out the ones with the most political clout in the electorate...there are too many for a short ad.

And be sure to include the promise he made to Bart Stupak...to get his vote and a few other Catholic votes...that Obamacare wouldn’t have the federal government supporting abortion through the healthcare act.

Then show O’s record on supporting infanticide in IL, and tell people the media hid this from you, and you elected a man president who was THIS radical and who can’t be trusted to tell the truth on such crucial matters as life and death.

As for the gas prices promise, make sure the litany of broken promises shows O making the statement that energy prices would skyrocket under his plan and coal would go bankrupt and that green energy is the answer and that he wants gas prices to increase gradually, not overnight.

Make the commercial mainly about gas prices and infanticide, about radical environmentalism and radical pro-aborts, and O and broken promises and an O compliant media.

Obamacare will certainly get thrown into the mix in the process.

If I were Newt I would be very careful about promising any specific price by a specific date.

In the aggregate the Law of Supply and Demand will work.
But you can’t pin yourself to a specific price or date.
Markets just don’t work that way.

Mr "I'll cut the deficit in half" then he doubles it.

He was never good at math. Instead of multiplying the deficit by 1/2, he divided it by 1/2.

when i hunted in wyoming

the technicians that worked for the oil company maintaining capped wells in the desert (we have a lot of oil that theyre not even bothering to pump out of the ground)...all their 4x4s ran on propane, using the same bottles they use for rvs and households

they would fill up two or three of the small bottles, hook one up and strap the others in back and be gone for two weeks making their rounds

they all said their vehicles ran better and at the time (1990’s) switching a gas vehicle to run on propane cost $200

people say ‘its 20mi to get propane’...well, if you use a bottle a week, fill up four at a time and swap it out, it takes two twists of a wrench and you’re running
