Sarah Palin on Alaska job: I canít take it anymore, reveals new public emails
AP via The New York Daily News ^ | Friday, February 24, 2012

Posted on 02/24/2012 8:51:50 AM PST by kristinn

Fed up with mounting legal bills and rattled by intense scrutiny of her family and work, Sarah Palin was ready to step down as Alaska's governor months before she left office in July 2009.

Emails released Thursday, most from the last 10 months of her time in office, show she told her husband in April, "I can't take it anymore" and complained to spokeswoman Sharon Leighow and aide Kris Perry in March that she had been the target of "many frivolous suits and charges since the DAY I became VP candidate."

"I can't afford this job," she wrote.

The emails illustrate what Palin has said all along: After running for vice president unsuccessfully with John McCain, she returned to Alaska to find that the financial and emotional drain of her gubernatorial job was too much. She flirted with a presidential run last year, but told supporters she instead was dedicating herself to "God, family and country." She currently serves as a commentator on Fox News.

In a March 19, 2009, email, Palin complained that more than 150 freedom of information requests had cost the state more than $1 million, adding: "and who knows what all the bogus ethics charges have cost the state."

She expressed anger at having to pay for her own defense, with a bill that at that point totaled more than $500,000, and said her husband had to go back to work on the North Slope to help deal with the growing costs.

"We've all had to pay for our OWN legal defense in this political bloodsport - it's horrendous - why do you think Todd is on the slope today?" Palin wrote. "I am paying to defend in my capacity as GOVERNOR - actions taken in my official position. This is unheard of anywhere else."

I've always thought she did the right thing. And I think she made the right choice not running for president for basically the same reasons.

The left cannot let a woman and/or black Republican get elected president under any circumstances, and will destroy any who try... and not just politically. They'll go after their friends and family with a viciousness never before seen.

“The LAST thing our masters want is to have Sarah Palin wake up the American spirit of freedom and individual liberty.”

####

This.

While they definitely fear Sarah Palin as a politican per se, it is really her potential for awakening American conservative values that has them utterly terrified. They saw those wildly entusiastic crowds at the tail-end of McLame’s campaign and they knew they weren’t mobilized for the deranged aisle-crossing RINO.

1: What new public emails? Inquiring minds want to know.

2: “She expressed anger at having to pay for her own defense, with a bill that at that point totaled more than $500,000.” Who among us could afford that?

3: This explanation is pretty much what she stated in her resignation speech, but some did want to listen.

4: If this the state of politics in this nation now, lord help us.

It doesn’t matter what Sarah Palin did or didn’t do. The media/enteratainment industry was and still is spitting mad that she lives and breathes. The LAST thing our masters want is to have Sarah Palin wake up the American spirit of freedom and individual liberty. They can not have that.

Sarah will always be my President. I don't know that I'll ever be able to forgive the drivebys and leftists for what they did to this woman. Those of you who can forgive them are better Christians than I am.

I pray daily GOD would bless us with her in the WH at some point in time, although as a nation we tragically deserve the POS current occupant.

What information I have tells me that she is, at this time, possibly the most vetted politician out there.

Redhead,

Yes she is, which is why Newt should pick her.

That and it would be fun to watch ( insert favorite Liberal's name ) heads explode when he does! :-)!

Let's go to Lowe's or the Depot now and get the Visqween to avoid the rush so they don't splatter any cranal mattter on us!

Notice that this is from the AP.

They are STILL smearing Sarah even though she is NOT running FOR anything!!!

Since she is a private citizen, I think she should sue the AP for bazillions in cash for slandering her. She resigned her governorship a couple of years ago. We KNOW why the DBM keep attacking her, but she needs to get them in court and make them explain IN PUBLIC W-H-Y they keep attacking her!!

Then, there will be no doubt!

But if this was enough to drive her to quit, she was in no way prepared to become President.

Your post makes it clear that you STILL don't fully comprehend the issue. Sarah didn't resign solely for HER benefit, she resigned because the frivolous lawsuits were being filed on almost a daily basis for MONTHS and they were taking not only resources AWAY from the state to accommodate them, they were taking HER time AWAY from her duties as governor.

I assume that you don't recognize real honor and real character when you see it. She didn't run away from a fight; she abandoned a losing situation that was detrimental FIRST to her obligations to her state and SECOND to her family's bank account.

Take a moment and try to honestly put yourself in her position and then say that she is NOT prepared to be president.

I see that many people here have forgotten that, as soon as McVain announced her as his VP, BHO unleased a cadre of 33 attorneys to go to Wasilla to try to dig up any dirt they could find on her. 33 attorneys!!!

The “dirt” they thought they found was nothing and was all explained. They tried bringing cases against her in court and lost . . . . . . . . . . . . EVERY SINGLE ONE!!!!!

They expected Palin to be in the thick of a primary race about now and it was intended to defeat her. Once again, they failed.

We all make mistakes.

Yes, true, and I admire anybody who looks their mistakes in the eye and admits them. That takes character and guts, excellent values that if one doesn't exhibit all the time (me), one can at least strive to! Kudos to you.

The thing to do with mistakes is to learn from them, and then apply what you've learned. That's what I try to do with them, and it's kinda one of the things I like about Gingrich, having perused his election website. On Education alone, compared it to Santorum, Gingrich's position is one to inspire real optimism.

Godspeed Newt Gingrich.

It’s not really news. As I recall it was already published at the time she quit that she was having to pay for her own legal bills for frivolous ethics charges, and obviously couldn’t afford it.

The left did the EXACT same thing to Newt Gingrich in the ‘90s with the frivolous ethics charges levied against him. I’m sure they wanted him to resign too but they settled for a pound of flesh, having him settle for $300,000, which Bob Dole had to promise to loan him. The left probably thought that would be enough of a black mark on Newt’s record to stop Newt from ever running for president. The Republicans at that time barely understood what was going on I think, and certainly didn’t realize the left was trying to create a tactic they could use over and over again to destroy us. And now, often because of our own conservatives claiming Newt’s “unelectable” because of those bogus charges, conservatives are willing to give the left exactly what it lied and cheated to get by not supporting Newt for president. It’s a shame when even our own conservative brethren fail to understand the evil the left is engaged in to destroy anyone they perceive as truly conservative. And of course our own liberal RINOs are all too happy to take advantage of the groundwork the leftists laid. I’m sure Romney would have said Palin “resigned in disgrace” too if she had stayed in the race.

It doesn't matter. In politics as in much of life perception is reality. Perception is she's a quitter so she's a quitter. The rationale doesn't matter. In time she can rehabilitate but 2012 isn't it. On the plus side, all the emails are out. There's nothing left to grasp for. We know from them the reasons given publicly are the reasons she was giving at work. These are now facts on the record.

Perhaps her mistake was agreeing to run with McCain but without that she might've been attacked the same way and had no means to climb out of the hole as she did in having become a national figure.

What about this tidbit from the second page. Was this a joke of some sort or were they talking about getting a divorce?

The emails indicate her job had taken a toll on her marriage long before she even became McCain's running mate.

In a Sept. 26, 2007, email to Kris Perry and her husband Todd, titled "Marital Problems," Palin writes: "So speaking of... If we, er, when we get a divorce, does that quell "conflict of interest" accusations about BP?" Her husband was a former BP employee on the North Slope.

Attacked by who if she hadn't of run as VP? National libs didn't pay any attention to her before McCain, and never would have without the VP run. Alaska libs loved her right up until McCain picked her, when they dropped her like a hot potato in the name of liberal solidarity. Gov. Palin was not VP candidate Palin or ex-Gov. Palin. Gov. Palin was a populist moderate squish, not a conservative.

It wasn't only that. If you remember, every one of these lawsuits had to be pursued by the State. Every one of them was costing the taxpayers of Alaska money. So, it wasn't just the personal expense to the Palins, it was the money that was being wasted by the State in chasing down each of these frivolous actions.

Vote Newt and I am almost sure she’ll be part of his cabinet, either energy secretary or enviro. solutions agency. That would be the first step to building up her professional political profile and preparing her for a presidential run again.

“A nightstick the size of a telephone pole and the muscle to wield it effortlessly.”

Sarah Palin is the most vetted politician in history, but her vetting includes vicious lies and smears that are still on going, (the new HBO film Game Change to cite just one example).

It's our problem, not hers alone, to educate voters and Americans that she is the patriot our nation needs to one day soon ascend to the presidency.

In the interim, if we're going to save and restore our Republic, my prayers, my hopes, and my money all belong to Newt Gingrich.

I don't see how we survive 4 more years of the Marxist or Obama-Lite Romney.

Does the spouse step in as has been done sometimes when a Senator dies while in office?

The governor of that state always appoints the replacement. Sometimes that might be the wife, but only if the Governor and the dead senator are of the same party.

You may be thinking about Missouri when a dead man stayed on the ballot and the governor promised to appoint the wife. John Ashcroft stupidly let that go unchallenged for whatever reason, and we suffered immensely because of it.

That’s true. We all do make mistakes. The question is, why do some choose to believe the worst about a person as their first reflex? And don’t misunderstand. This isn’t personally directed at you. It’s just a curiosity to me. I’ve done it too. There arises a situation, and two or more ways of understanding it are on the table. Some people will always pick the one that is most disparaging of another’s character. Some will err on the other side, never questioning whether a person has done right. Both responses are defective. But the left (and others) relies on those responses. They are why negative campaigns work. So is it just human nature? Will it always be this way? Or is there a way for us to get better at this? I don’t know.

Saying Alaska Libs ever loved her is a gross misstatement. The animal rights people hated her for the wolf hunting business. The good ol boy club hated her for messing with their cronyism, and that jails from the left, even when the GOP is doing it. There’s never been any serious doubt she’s on the wrong side of social issues, if you’re a lefty. Abortion is absolutely central to the left’s agenda. It grants ultimate power over life and death to the state. Her fiscal policies, right or wrong, were designed to promote private sector growth through free enterprise, not your typical lefty posture.

And what the heck is wrong with an appeal to “the people” as the true sovereign authority in a government ground in “We the People?” Surely you recognize a difference between that and mere pandering, which is where populism got its current tarnished reputation. Reagan was a populist, but not a panderer. He had his core values and remained true to them, and yes they revolved around the “people.” Palin shares in that legacy. May their tribe increase.

this is exactly what they did to Newt... all but one of 80-some ethics violations dropped and a clean bill of health from the IRS... afterwards. No legal fine, he paid for the cost of the investigation.

There is something about Newt and Sarah, they didn’t defend themselves overtly regarding both of these stampedes... maybe it is their concept of honor or something...

Newt was palinized before there was a palin, it is what dems do to true reformers... it is very sad.
