A senior Pentagon official apologized Friday to Washington-area Muslims for the burning of Korans at a military base in Afghanistan.

Peter Lavoy, acting assistant secretary of defense for Asia and Pacific security affairs, said the military is investigating what occurred and that all 140,000 coalition troops in Afghanistan are being retrained in the handling of religious materials.

Lavoy apologized multiple times during a brief speech during prayer services at the ADAMS Center in Sterling, one of the largest mosques in the country.

"I come here today to apologize on behalf of the Department of Defense for the incident that took place in Afghanistan this week," Lavoy told worshippers, saying the burnings were done "unknowingly and improperly."

I don’t blame the pentagon officials and the senior brass. They’re following the lead of our so called “commander in chief”. This is strictly on Baraq, he’s the embarrassment and we as a country should apologize to the world for foisting this empty suit on them. Sarah Palin had it right, when will Afghanistan apologize for murdering our personnel.

Here you go.....Afghan laborer recalls rage as he tried to save charred Korans

"Love" this little snippet at the end of the article.

........."Jawad, one of the laborers, said he no longer wanted to work at the base, despite relatively good wages of $650 a month in a country where more than a third live under the poverty line.

"The Americans always do such blasphemy to test how strong our Muslim faith is. It is best for us that the government provide us with another job," Jawad said. "................

"How many simpering insipid cowards do we have in this gubmint anyway?"

Just one. Unfortunately he's the CinC, and set the tone for his administration long ago. I am reminded of a chilling BBC documentary done back in the 1970s, a series of interviews of former members of the Japanese high command. When asked "why did you attack the Americans at Pearl Harbor?" They simply replied "we did not believe they would fight back." History repeats.

Then we were STUPID to have let that happen! Thanks for the correction - even though in light of all of the BO administration’s daily sabotage of our country, it was a logical assumption they were at fault.

The information wasn’t leaked by the Administration, but on the other hand, the Administration is not doing what it should have: announced right at the start that the Korans had already been defaced (by Muslim prisoners writing messages to each other in the margins) and that the legitimately prescribed way of dealing with a defaced Koran is to burn it. All of the foregoing is the truth and the US government should have said it right away.

Instead Administration forces are running around pretending this was a “desecration” for which they have to apologize.

‘intentionally leaked’

Excellent point. Very likely.

Burning a koran may not be the best way to dispose of it. Through my own personal experience and experimentation, I've found that stuffing them with bacon, and giving them to a large dog works just as well with the added benefit of lower carbon emmissions and a huge spike on the perceived desecration scale...

Come on: Do you really think it was the Pentagons idea to apologise?

That order came from the Muslim in Charge.

They should write the apology on a thousand bombs and drop them on Afghanistan. Get out of Afghanistan and tell the Muslims to go do an unnatural to themselves.

Tell them when the Saudi’s stop burning Bibles we will stop burning Korans.

If nthey want an apology, they need to provide a few more of their guys for our guys to use as target practice. Bad enough when "Pentagon Officials" apologize 9hopefully under duress from the WH), but as Newt said the other day, there are NO circumstances where the President of the U. S. of A. should EVER apologize.

‘Newt owns Piers Morgan over Obama ‘Koran’ apology’

Newt really handled himself well on Piers Morgan tonight, taking on the Obama administration for their one sided view of the Muslim world with respect to their apologies over the Koran burning. Piers Morgan approached all of his questions from the perspective that Obama has handled the situation well, only to have Newt hit back hard over how it should have been handled.

This is excellent:

It was probably the most blasphemous thing anyone can do from the point of view of a Muslim. Korans are supposed to be copies of the perfect Koran which is in heaven. I don't get the logic of this - the Heavenly Koran cannot be affected by what occurs on earth, if it does exist - but the Muslim view of desecration and blasphemy differs from the Western view.

Having said that, I would say that the life of one man, who is made in the image of Allah, is more precious than any book; it was not done intentionally; and there has been apologies tendered. If Allah is offended, then let him punish the burner. Humans are not Allah's perfect instruments of judgement.

You can argue with a Communist or a Fascist more successfully than with a Muslim; those two political movements are based upon Western political and philosophical history.

I don't believe Islam's tenets. I believe in living and let living inasmuch as the innate dignity of man is honored. Islam seems to be perfectly designed to be the enemy of Christianity - too much like it in some aspects, radically different in others.
