GALLUP DAILY: GOP Ballot Tracking (Santorum 31, Romney 30, Gingrich 16; End of the Santorum Surge?)
Gallup ^ | 2/25/12 | Gallup

Look at the chart at the bottom of the page:

Santorum's 10 point over Romney lead has been cut down to a 1 point lead...in just 4 days. Unfortunately for Gingrich supporters (such as myself), Newt has stabilized at 16, and it look like Romney, not Newt, has been the chief beneficiary of Santorum's recent polling dive.

I hope you are right. But it is been Rommeny and the anti Rommney all campaign. The big issue is no one has the money or clout to beat Mitt in the long haul.

Still, I am glad I voted for him in Iowa.

This is a tracking poll taken from the last 5 days of polling. That means if Romney gained 3 points and Santorum lost 2 in just the last day, and the latest result has the two candidates just 1 point apart, Romney is ahead of Santorum in the 2/24 poll.

Now maybe 2/24 is an outlier, but if the look at the trend in the chart for the last 5 days or so, it doesn’t look like it.

Tells you all you need to know about how serious Santorum voters are, doesn't it.

So in your mind this snapshot means Newt is always at 16?

You didn’t say that, I know, but you seem defeated...correct my misimpression if need be.

I’m not predicting either way...that would take a working crystal ball.

Not assuming an ongoing same ol’, same ol’, either.

We now have 2 “BREAKING NEWS” articles with freeper commentary in titles about Santorum doing poorly yet both are about Santorum leading Romney.

How sad that some freepers seem to root for the fall of yet another conservative who is beating Mittens. I’m guessing these same posters would not be posting breaking news articles if Santorum was increasing his lead.

Gingrich has got to do something differently. I suspect he got bad "counsels of war" when he was ahead that "bred timidity." He's got to do something differently from what he's now doing because he's not making headway.

Newt, buddy, put yourself in front of the American people in a SERIES of "fireside chats" in a "non-governmental" setting and talk face-to-face with the American people and REALLY LEVEL with them about who you are, warts and all, and what you stand for and what's at stake.

RomPaul took their best shot at Santorum and he’s still standing. That’s what I see.

You’re right, two days at 16 does mean Gingrich “stabilized” at that point; my bad. In the past 5 days or so Romney has gained 4 points, but Gingrich has gained 3. So they might be splitting the bounty of Santorum’s dive near-evenly.

I thing I was expecting a 17 or 18 for Gingrich today, so it was the disappointment speaking.

It has. Santo is on his way down.

If he is, then we are stuck with Romney. I don't see Newt going anywhere that counts.

I was answering the question in the headline. Santorum's surge has ended.

Uh, did you see the gleeful and misleading post that headed up breaking news all day until recently?

It pretended that Newt was in favor of the gay marriage referenda and result in Washington state.

All Newt said was if voters in a state vote for gay marriage, it’s a done deal in that state, and he much prefers that process to unelected judges forcing it. But he is against gay marriage.

He was accused, repeatedly, of having a wrong position on the issue and of pandering to people in Washington State who are for gay marriage.

HUH??

Thankfully, finally it went to the graveyard of inappropriate breaking news headlines.

Don’t go all victim on us, whaddya’ say?

It was done to Newt Gingrich by Santorum people.
