To draw Iran into nuclear talks, Obama avoids ousting Assad

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal did not hide his anger before marching out of the Friends of Syria conference attended by 70 nations in Tunis Friday, Feb. 24 after they fell in behind US plans for avoiding direct action against Syria’s Bashar Assad. Filmed sitting with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the Saudi minister told a reporter that arming the Free Syrian Army was an “excellent idea” because they needed to defend themselves. Clinton remained frostily aloof on this obvious bone of contention.

Riyadh is no happier with Moscow than it is with Washington. Saudi King Abdullah is reported by Middle East sources to have banged down the telephone on Russian President Dmitry Medvedev Wednesday, Feb. 22, when he called to invite the oil kingdom to align with Russia’s Syrian strategy against the West.

The Saudis think the US president is dreaming if he reckons Iran’s rulers will be so grateful for Assad’s escape that they will be willing to give up their aspirations for a nuclear weapon. They also think Obama misguided in aiming for Russian collaboration in making its political, military, technological and nuclear clout in Tehran available at some point for them to arrive together at agreed accommodations in both Syria and Iran. Riyadh regards its case as proven beyond doubt by events of the past week.

Just insane. You put pressure on a country by removing its allies, not propping them up.

We need to leave Syria alone. We’re giving Putin ammunition to support a revitalization of Russia’s military. We do not need to give another nation to the Muslim britherhood.

As bad as Assad is, Christians have been left alone.

I am surprised that Obama hasn’t flown to Tehran to sign some phony non aggression agreement and return in triumph waving it and declaring “peace in our time”. That strategy worked so well with Hitler in 1939.

When Egypt and Libya stabilize, they’ll look more like Iran with Taliban-like Islamic extremist, anti-American regimes. Syria will join them when Assad has been executed. The Arab/Islamic uprising will unite all Islamic countries against us if they don’t disintegrate into sectarian warfare.

In other news today the administration denied that the mushroom cloud over where Tel Aviv use to be is any indication that Iran is planning on building an nuclear weapon. Sources noted that a rocket trail coming from the east could be seen prior to the blast however it unclear if there there is any connection.

On other fronts the administration has indicated they will be sending apology suggestion boxes to the noble Muslims in other countries for their use tin generating new list of more things Obama can apologize for.

The Syrians are covering up the Iraqi WMDs that were shipped there before Bush invaded.

Obama and the treasonous Democrats (I know, it's redundant) do NOT want Assad overthrown - they do NOT want the WMD information uncovered.

Syria is a damned if we do, damned if we don’t situation. Libya’s a low grade civil war. Egypt at least still has the army in control.. I agree we don’t need to hand Syria to the same bunch. The fact that the Saudis are upset with both Russia and us over Syria tells you something. The Saudis see us as useful idiots.

That’s why we need to pass the natural gas act and move to energy independence. We need to cut the flow of cash into the Middle East. Maybe we’ll delay the Islamic hoard for a generation.

Its not going to work. Both Iran and Syria are working together. Syria supports Irans nuclear program. On December 3,2009 ,Syrian President Bashar al-Assad met with Iran’s chief nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili in Damascus. Following the meeting, Assad affirmed “the right of Iran and other countries that are signatories to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty to enrich uranium for civilian purposes. On June 28,2008, adviser to Israel’s national security council accused Iran of helping Syria develop its covert nuclear program. According to the adviser, “The Iranians were involved in the Syrian program. The idea was that the Syrians produce plutonium and the Iranians get their share.

Map showing how Syria and Iran plan to defend themselves from the air with the help of Russia. “With the joint announcement last week of Syria-Iran cooperation on all fronts to counter U.S.-Israeli threats, and also with the announcement that Russia will sell air defense weapons to Syria over bitter U.S.-Israeli objections, the Russia-Syria-Iran axis forecast here has crystallized
