Our “discipline” during the mid to late 70s was pretty lax, by the standards of either before or since. My girlfriend’s sister graduated HS in 2006 and she was shocked when I told her things like multiple entrances and exits were always unlocked, lockers were locked and it was easy to grab an unused one simply by locking it, there were no metal detectors and little to no police presence, dress codes were limited to showing excessive skin or actual bad words, and kids who played sports and/or had decent grades could get away with damned near anything they didn’t make obvious.

On the other hand, contrary to what some would imply we didn’t have any sort of organized prayer in the schools.

The key difference between then and now: we were individually held responsible for our own actions, including our grades. In particular, bullying was less of a problem because their was no “zero tolerance”. While unwarranted aggression could be seriously punished, fighting back received little or sometimes no penalty.

First of all, prayers to all the families and students involved.

Second, parents will not tolerate someone else reprimanding their children. Some parents actually encourage their children’s rebellion.

We were at a basketball practice with my 12 year old daughter. They were practicing with another team full court. Two boys kept coming on the court and shooting hoops while the girls were at the other end. They weren’t getting out of the way in time. The coaches had already asked them to stay off the court. When one of our girls almost ran over one of the boys, I walked over and asked them again to please stay off the court because it was the girl’s practice time.

A dad of one of the boys said something to me when I walked away (I didn’t hear it). Then the dad went out onto the court to shoot hoops with the boys. I didn’t say anything else but I wanted to tell him ‘when your son stands up in your face disrespecting you, I want you to remember this moment and the fact that you taught him that he did not to respect adult authority.”

I’m glad to hear your daughter is safe. My wife and I just saw her cousin who has daughters at CHS and obviously our thoughts are with her. Our society and culture suffers from turning away from God. Violence and retribution are celebrated in our popular culture.

Channel 5 is reporting at least 20 federal agents are searching numerous homes in a neighborhood outside of Chardon and a mobile crime lab has been set up. Multiple search warrants have been issued.

Just on Saturday I wrote a post on “Pumped Up Kicks,” a song that I felt might be seen as enticing school shootings for troubled kids.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/2851135/posts

I wonder if this shooter has this in his playlist. You can’t blame, but musicians can on their own decide to be more responsible. The worst offense in the sing is the happy, sweet tune and the lyrics don’t include anything bad happening to the perp.

Let’s put it this way: a film producer will not finance a movie from the point of view of a teen school shooter who enjoys killing his fellow students like it was a video game, enjoying them try to outrun his bullets in their expensive shoes, and nothing bad happens to the shooter. Why? Because the producer is afraid some attorney WILL blame the film for a future act.

I feel the song’s happy beat juxtaposed with an abused kid taking fire at innocents is irresponsible even though I wouldn’t take away his artistic right to be edgy. I’d add another verse where he either gets put away or killed or something.

You know, it almost like removing people’s right to defend themselves make them MORE vulnerable…

Women initially joined the “working force” in great numbers because of WWII. Women took the jobs the soldiers left.

“The worst offense in the sing is the happy, sweet tune and the lyrics don’t include anything bad happening to the perp.”

The point is the contrast, it’s kind of like “Sunny Came Home” in that regard. The next layer of “depth”: He’s thinking about it, it’s not made clear whether or not he acts on his thoughts.

Very surprising that this occured in Chardon a sleepy little conservative town, middle class...lots of families. Of course, this can happen anywhere.

Don't tell those who think this only occurs in big cities.

It'll pop their bubble.

Can we get the title of this to match what is already confirmed, or should this be re-posted with an accurate updated story?

Parents send kids to school, never looking at the curriculum or considering the kinds of indoctrination their children are getting while at school.

There are a lot of things wrong with schools and the environments they create that destroy children.

We still feel the way you do. Now we are an anomaly, with the wife staying home. I don’t believe in institutional care for kids. I had some very bad experiences. My mother had advanced degrees and worked out of the home, and it wasn’t so good for us. But with one person only employed in today’s family, it can be hard. At one time both our cars were over 15 years old.

But all but my eldest have never not had mom around. And it’s been a good thing!

How many of Yate’s kids were old to enough to be considered homeschoolers? One? Weren't the rest preschoolers and infants.

What's next socialist-entitlement newborn and infant “school” because some parents might drown their kids? Hey! Maybe we should have government teachers in the delivery rooms to take the newborns from the mom's arms at birth. The babies could be raised in 24/7 infant schools. Hey! Why not? Some mom's drown their infants.

And...Texas Eagle asks an important question. Were the Yates kids drowned during socialist school hours? ( Just wondering).

Finally....What about the sexual and physical abuses suffered by our nation's children in our nation's system of socialist schools from teachers, staff, and fellow students? There are news stories in the media on a **daily** basis regarding that. What about the emotion and spiritual damage done by non-stop godless indoctrination?

I did not ever say that. I just wonder if it was on his playlist and if he found himself singing the lyrics like an ear worm. This happens to me sometimes. If you are a troubled teen and you are si ging a catchy tune, saying “all the other kids better outrun my gun” it could be an affirmation or inspiration.

"This idea that women *used* to stay home and homeschool their kids, nurture their kids until they were off on their own, but no longer do so, is absurd."

The idea that women can focus their full energies on child-rearing is absurd?

LOL

I guess Mother Nature should be notified. I don't see any non-politically-correct animals that don't have the Mothering instinct, tending constantly to their young....

Women who want to be "Heads of Household-Bread-Winners" have penis-envy, I think.

Some local official interviewed on FN explained it this way... The local police have a alert type called “active shooting” and it is preset that Federal Law Enforcement Agencies along with all local Law Enforcement Agencies will respond to the shooting. The ATF and FBI responded to this incident (and who knows who else)... To me - this is totally unwarranted and it is a prime example of the erosion of State’s Sovereignty... State officials should not do this ... The severity of the situation was pretty well known early on and the Sheriff’s Office report it had the situation under control. And - Severity not withstanding ... it was a total STATE - County - City Jurisdiction situation. State and local authorities should not be allowed to assume authority to sign away willy nilly State Sovereignty Rights held by the people of that state.

Most young women today have been brainwashed to believe they can "do it all" - have babies and a career.
Same goes for the OWS scumbags: there are neither winners nor losers, and answering 5 to "what's 2+2 equal?" is okay because you tried.
Neither group was ever taught there are consequences.

AGREED! Federal is constantly jumping in and controlling everything...I missed it...good catch.
Only thing I can think of that they would use to justify their involvement would be the Gun-Free School Zones Act (GFSZA)...but heck most serious crimes are federal and they aren’t involved in those?

Nuclear family children tend to have daughters in the household who see the opportunity to reach their fullest potential, but tend to have the natural instinct to have children and raise a family with values such as their own.

God, Family, Country are the natural order of things, that create the greatest Societies, history has shown. (You don't see "career" in that list....and just as in ALL of Nature itself, the "mothering/nurturing" aspect is prevalent in the females, period).

The post-industrial model is not “traditional”.

Traditionally, both the wife and husband *worked from home* because one’s workplace and one’s home were very often *the same place*

Have a shop in town? The family often lived upstairs, or in other rooms of said shop. Have a farm in the country? Again, the home and the family business are the same location.

The traditional model is the one in which both husband AND wife were at home, and historians have observed that *men* leaving the home at the industrial revolution had an effect on families even back then.

Mueller told the newspaper that the shooter typically waits for a bus that goes to Lake Academy, a school in Willoughby serving at-risk students.

Komertz said the shooter was known as an outcast who had apparently been bullied. He said there were at least 100 students in the cafeteria at the time and that most fled immediately as shots were fired.

Mueller said he and his friends, including Russell King, Nick Walczak and Demetrius Hewlin, were sitting at their regular cafeteria table when the shooter approached at about 7:30 a.m.

He said he heard a gunshot behind him. He turned and felt a sting on his ear.

Russell, he said, had recently started dating the shooter’s ex-girlfriend, who is home schooled.
