A teenage girl has been left broken-hearted after her car was crushed by a man in a huge camouflaged truck.
Norman Nowling, 40, from Fort Myers in Florida was arrested on Saturday after witnesses claimed he had deliberately driven over the 1994 Toyota Corolla several times.
The incident occurred at the Redneck Yacht Club during the annual 'Swamp Cabbage Weekend', which sees 4,000 revellers in monster trucks and pickups speed around an 800-acre mud park for fun.
The young woman had heard that a car had been crushed while she was at a mus pit with friends, and alerted security as soon as she returned to find the vehicle was hers. A private security guard reported seeing a large group of spectators gather round the vehicle at around 3am, urging two large trucks to run it over because 'the owner doesn't care'.
The trucks attempted to drive over the vehicle, but failed. A large camouflaged van with five-foot wheels then approached the car, and deliberately smashed into the bonnet from both sides.
Encouraged by the chanting crowd, the driver drove over the entire car several times
A spokesperson for the Redneck Yacht Club said that everyone signs a liability waiver upon entering the mud park, and that the incident was an unfortunate event that occurred on their property.

A whole lot of people are condemning you for proposing that lethal force be employed to protect a 1994 Corolla. Nevermind that Florida law allows for this, I’m dismayed that so many FReepers would be sucked into the idea that their property rights can be so easily trumped.
Let me ask those of you who are saying it is ‘murder’ to use lethal force to stop the destruction of a car what they’d have to say if instead of a 1994 Corolla it were a 2011 Ford Police Interceptor owned by the Florida State Police?
Should the cop just let the criminal destroy the car or would it be of any surprise to anyone here that the cop would shoot and kill anyone trying to destroy a police car?
And who here would call such a cop a ‘murderer’?

The same principle applies whether it is a police car or someone’s 1984 Yugo crapbox. No one has a right to destroy it and in a state like Florida the rights of the law abiding trump the rights of the brigands any and every day of the week.

Yes, technically true. However there are very large areas of Florida where it you would swear you are in a foreign country or possibly on another planet.
Naples has too many donut shops. Unless the cops continuously predate upon the stream of donuts, soon Napoles would e covered with the things.
Plus, it was 3 am and the site is far from either the donut shops and the police stations.
Cops have NO duty to protect either person or property, according to SCOTUS.

Yes, he is a waste of skin. Somebody who would destroy somebody’s car on a lark would do anything. I don’t consider it “fun.” It’s sickening. But you’d fight for his right to destroy somebody’s car (and probably livelihood) with a slap on the wrist.
