Attorney General Eric Holder on Tuesday stopped short of saying he would have eliminated Operation Fast and Furious if he had been made aware of the failed gun-tracking operation before it was put in place.
Holder told lawmakers at a subpanel hearing that Fast and Furious was fundamentally flawed, but the nations top cop emphasized that aggressive and creative tactics must be used if the United States has any hope of stopping the flow of weapons to Mexico.
I certainly would have modified the program, Holder said in response to a question from Rep. Kevin Yoder (R-Kan.), who asked whether he would have eliminated Operation Fast and Furious before it began if someone had told him about the controversial gun-walking tactics.
I mean, allowing guns to walk is simply a procedure that does not make sense. Its bad law enforcement. And I think that is at the heart of the problem with regard to Fast and Furious, Holder said.
On the other hand, coming up with ways in which we stop the flow of guns from the United States to Mexico [means] we need to be aggressive, we need to be creative and we need to help our Mexican counterparts to the extent that we can.
The back-and-forth between Holder and the lawmakers on Tuesday was much more civil than in the attorney generals previous appearances before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee and the House Judiciary Committee. Lawmakers on those panels grilled Holder relentlessly, often cutting him off before he could fully answer questions.
This is very interesting, he said. Im having a conversation about Fast and Furious in a very appropriate, neutral, detached way, which is fundamentally different from my experiences in other committees. And this is almost, I wont say pleasant, but its different.
Yoder is one of 90 lawmakers in the House who has backed a resolution expressing a lack of confidence in Holder to head the DOJ because of his involvement in an operation that authorized the sale of nearly 2,000 firearms to known and suspected straw buyers for Mexican drug cartels.
Republican leadership has not indicated it will take up the measure anytime soon, but Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), who has led the Houses investigation of the issue, has threatened to place Holder in contempt if he does not produce documents used to draft a letter to Congress that mistakenly said the DOJ makes every effort to interdict weapons before they cross into Mexico. That letter has since been withdrawn.
Yoder said voters in his district have been hammering him about what hes doing to hold Holder accountable and that hes troubled that the attorney general was not taking the congressional investigation seriously.
Holder told the freshman that he wanted to get to the bottom of Fast and Furious, and pointed to an inspector general report that he has ordered. Holder implied that he had taken steps that former Attorney General Michael Mukasey had not taken when he was briefed about a gun-tracking operation that used similar tactics under former President George W. Bushs administration.
Once this was brought to my attention, I stopped it, said Holder. In spite of what other attorneys general might have done with briefings that they got, when this attorney general heard about these practices I said to the men and women of the United States Department of Justice, in the field and people at main Justice, This aint gonna be the way we conduct business. Stop.
Even allowing for the possibility (and I don’t believe this possibility for a minute), where FF was up and running before he became AG, he could have modified parts of it.
He’s top dog, he could have cancelled it at anytime. His lack of action suggests that he supported it.
Here comes the white-wash.
Holder has Boehner to thank for the new ‘kid gloves’ treatment.
Wonder how many times Holder has gotten out of bed in the morning wishing he had never heard of Obama.
It will be more interesting when the reverse of that becomes true.
Rock, paper, scissors...
Time for a do over. How about November?
I believe Holder’s “investigation” of F&F has now taken longer than the Warren Commission...
11:04 PM MST Operation #EFAD bump (Fast and Furious related, check it out)
Bull! The "aggressive," "creative" tactics were to smuggle guns to the drug cartels so the guns could be seized by Mexican law enforcement to present before press conferences, in order to gin up support for draconian gun control laws.
Knowing how Obama and his regime hate guns AND gun owners, it must REALLY grate on him, knowing that he's considered the #1 gun salesman in the country!
Why hasn’t Holder been indicted for lying to Congress?
Check comment# 3 on this first link re: #EFAD.
Some noteworthy articles about politics, foreign or military affairs, IMHO, FReepmail me if you want on or off my list.
Back up the BIG dump truck and dump a FULL load of BULL#HIT.
So then if Holder and the DOJ didn’t initally give approval of moving weapons across an international border I assume that someone in the State Department led and approved Fast and Furious?
The best and perhaps only chance of stopping the flow of weapons to Mexico short of imposing a Stalinist tyranny is to legalize the use of drugs in America.
stopping the flow of weapons to Mexico.....Bush’s DOJ came to the conclusion that “there is no iron pipeline” to Mexico according to a 2006 report. After Hillary stated 98% of Mexico’s guns came from th US, some fact checker wrote that only 17% of Mexico’s guns came from here. That pissed of Hillary and Obama (who used her figures in a speech) and, voila! We have F&F to up those statistics.
Gift wrapping and ribbons, perhaps?
"Roses are red, violets are blue, we're shafting the American people, and this AK's for you"?
Locked and loaded would be my guess..
Please suppress your gag reflex...if you can. Ping.
Unless I am mistaken the revolutionary AG did modify that program inherited form the Bush Administration significantly and a whole bunch o f people are dead because the fundamental flaw seems to be a result of the ambitious actions of the Holder administration.
“Attorney General Eric Holder on Tuesday stopped short of saying he would have eliminated Operation Fast and Furious if he had been made aware of the failed gun-tracking operation before it was put in place.”
Lies that equate to “I didn’t know anything and I had no authority or responsibility for whatever happens—just like my boss”
Is there anyone with the political courage in our congress or senate to open the process up for impeachment???
I don’t hear or see anything but a bunch of over-gassed flappin’ lips telling the MSM how outraged that this happened, or on the other side how racist they are for even considering badgering the most successful AG in American History!!!
The conservatives in this country are not going to argue one bit if the process were to begin at the earliest opportunity, and not wait till after the elections, that is is we can oust his boss in November...
To which I do not have a warm and fuzzy feeling about to this day...
But thats just my opinion...
I don’t believe there is any regret...
Matter of fact, I bet he hates getting out of Obama’s bed every morning...
Thanks for the ping!
You know what they say about payback. IMHO, Issa and John Boehner dump an impeahed Holder et al. on the Senate prior to the election. Rats are defending 23 seats, seven of which will be vacant due to retirements.
Well, I hope your right...Ihope they do something like that...
But I bet nothing happens...Issa will be told to keep the pressure on from his perspective (no one else has the brass ones to do it) and nothing more will progress except the information and vidoe and sound bytes...
No one will start the procedings for an impeachment, no matter how much we yell and scream for it...
Just my opinion...
