Georgetown Students Go Broke to Buy Birth Control? Target Sells Pills for $9 Per Month

Nancy Pelosi held a congressional hearing on Monday with a single witness, Georgetown student Sandra Fluke, to testify about the need for Obamacare to mandate that religious institutions provide free contraception and abortifacients under their health insurance plans.

“Forty percent of the female students at Georgetown Law reported to us that they struggled financially as a result of this policy,” Fluke testified regarding the Catholic university's policy of not covering birth control. “Without insurance coverage, contraception, as you know, can cost a woman over $3,000 during law school.”

But Fluke's testimony was very misleading. Birth control pills can be purchased for as low as $9 per month at a pharmacy near Georgetown's campus. According to an employee at the pharmacy in Washington, D.C.'s Target store, the pharmacy sells birth control pills--the generic versions of Ortho Tri-Cyclen and Ortho-Cyclen--for $9 per month. "That's the price without insurance," the Target employee said. Nine dollars is less than the price of two beers at a Georgetown bar.

Since these are liberal law students we're talking about, I don't know why anybody would take what they say at face value anyway.

Wal-Mart carries the Trojan 12-pack for $4.00. Now we'll have the triflin', good-for-nothing Georgetown males whining they can't afford 33 cents for a condom?

Or does Church Social Justice doctrine teach that denial of free condoms to horny undergraduates is "oppression of the poor"?"

Yeah, the Church of Christ Without Christ: " where the blind don't see and the lame don't walk, and what's dead stays that way."

I've wondered why no one has pointed out that this is not exactly something that anyone needs insurance for. They are both cheap and hardy an unexpected expense for the people who utilize these pills. People who buy both bagels and birth control pills on a regular basis are like to spend more on bagels.

The high price of beer has always been a problem for students. Beer or food? How can you manage?

In the house where I lived, we bought an old soft drink machine and converted it to dispense beer. It was designed to dispense soft drinks for $.06. It had slots for nickels and pennies. The Penny slot was enlarged to receive a quarter and the nickel slot was logically disabled. You could insert a nickle but it did nothing but take the coin. For engineers, it was a piece of cake.

A corporation was established with 10 stockholders. Oasis Inc stock holders and close associates bought beer for a quarter. Others paid the posted $.30’s. The machine sold beer all night and on Sunday’s. We recently gathered and someone brought one of the original hand lettered Oasis stock certificates. Down at the bottom in small print were the words. “Non Voting Shares” Our non engineer Business buddy pulled one over on us engineers.

Every Monday we went to the bar down the street an picked up our eleven cases of Budweiser long necks. The Beer had to be delivered to a bonefide retail seller but we got the best price by buying at least 11 cases.

Oasis Inc was the best investment in my life, even up till today. It paid dividends from the first week and the shares were sold on graduation for double the original price.

That’s the price of about two foo foo coffees. And you know they can afford those.

The Georgetown Starbucks will certainly understand if Ms. Fluke purchases two fewer lattes a month as the price of her "liberation."

Wonderful isn’t it?

Pelosi holds a hearing and the so-called ‘witness’ lies through her teeth.

Everyone here picks up on it and comments appropriately.

MSM - crickets! The Official Record - the lies. What’s the point?

What’s disappointing is that there was no Republican congressman getting into this witness’s grill and presenting these facts back to her. They had to know the lies this women would be bringing to the table. CHALLENGE THEM! Don’t take this cr*p lying down!

There is part of me that is relieved this idiot is studying to be a lawyer and not, say, a physician, engineer or some other profession that actually requires a working brain.

$3000/month for contraception - are her condoms gold-plated or is she spending more time having sex than studying? If she’s having that much sex that it’s costing her $3k/month, then she could offset her contraceptive expenses with marketing her time management abilities.

"Why buy the milk when you have a big fat cow at home?"

Why "buy" anything, when it's "free"?
