GenOn Energy Inc. has put power plants in Elrama, Washington County, and in New Castle on its list of eight plants to shut down by May 2015 because of environmental regulations.

Elrama, a 460-megawatt plant, will be deactivated in June, according to the company's announcement today. The 330-megawatt New Castle plant is expected to close in April 2015.

GenOn said the eight plants in Pennsylvania, Ohio and New Jersey represent about 13 percent of its generating capacity, or 3,140 megawatts in the wholesale market. One megawatt can power about 800 homes.

“What will power their AC this summer?”

I’m sure the algae powered AC units will pick up the slack.

“May 2015”

The Elrama plant is due to close in June, I think that’s June 2012. That’s the plant that’s near where I live.

These power plants will soon lose hundreds of great paying jobs. But like lemmens they will all go down to the union hall and be told to vote Democratic in November. “One and Done” is the only way to vote this November, bye bye Omuslim.

We don't need all those power plants designed to pollute the environment as EVERYBODY knows that if you need electricity you just plug into those receptacle thingees scattered throughout your house. Why, I have several in my house that I haven’t used in years so I know I gots lots of electricity saved up there.

I worked at the Glen Gardener plant in west NJ in the 1970s. It was an oil fired peak plant then. If it still is, it’s gone.

Your login name sure reminded me of the Las Vegas Casino.
My wife and I had been there many times in our 42 years of marriage.
And I was thinking of Westward Ho this afternoon as I was mentally surfing the pleasant memory.

I’m a westerner. We spent 6 years in South Carolina. While there, I learned to hate tall trees and city lights. We couldn’t see big sky, stars close enough to touch, cloud displays, sunsets....
I took Westward Ho because I couldn’t wait to beat it back west...
Did you ever see the turn off for Bagdad AZ off the highway between Phoenix and Kingman? It use to be home.
I enjoyed your note.

They better get cracking instead of fracking.

Hopefully, they can figure out how to crack the problems of green energy right away.

Better start buiding those algae vats. I wonder how many and how big the vats would have to be to replace the energy provided by coal, oil and gas which we have in huge amounts.?
