NEW YORK (AP) — Stepping into an emerging culture clash over women, President Barack Obama made a supportive phone call Friday to a law student who testified before Congress about the need for birth control coverage, only to be called a "slut" by Rush Limbaugh.
For Obama, it was an emphatic plunge into the latest flare-up on social issues. Democratic officeholders and liberal advocacy have accused Republicans of waging a "war on women" because of GOP stances on contraception and abortion rights, and Limbaugh's tirade on his radio talk show was seen as an escalation.
In addition to her call from the president, the third-year Georgetown University law student, Sandra Fluke, was backed by members of Congress, women's groups, and the administration and faculty at her Roman Catholic university.
Demands for Limbaugh's sponsors to pull their ads from his show rocketed through cyberspace, and at least four companies, Quicken Loans, LegalZoom online legal document service, and bedding retailers Sleep Train and Sleep Number, bowed to the pressure.
Obama considers Limbaugh's remarks "reprehensible," according to White House spokesman Jay Carney. He said the president called Fluke to "express his disappointment that she has been the subject of inappropriate personal attacks" and to thank her for speaking out on an issue of public policy.
"The fact that our political discourse has become debased in many ways is bad enough," Carney said. "It is worse when it's directed at a private citizen who was simply expressing her views."
Obama reached Fluke by phone as she was waiting to go on MSNBC's "Andrea Mitchell Reports."
"He's really a very a kind man," Fluke later told The Associated Press.

I had forgotten about that disgraceful speech...mocking a plumber and the profession. So like a true elitist who has never worked a real job. Rush ought to play that clip on his show to remind all of those liberals who monitor his program that their hero Zero is guilty of the same stuff he is accusing Limbaugh of doing!
I don’t believe Rush should back any from his comments, because they’re true. When has the the left EVER backed away from their disgusting comments about Sarah Palin, George W. Bush, Clarence Thomas, Joe the Plumber, Herman Cain, Michelle Bachman, etc., etc., none of which were true?
Rush will find his ratings higher than ever.

Obama, a public figure is attacking Rush Limbaugh, a true American Patriot who is speaking the truth about Miss Fluke and unmarried women who are sexually active.
They then changed the subject to "contraception". Now it is all about this woman being called a slut when when all she wanted was contraception.
Nobody is talking anymore about freedom of religion. What a huge relief for the dems. Especially after their recent vote to continue the suppression of religious freedom.
Republicans/Conservatives just follow along and let them change the subject.
I don’t think this is working for the Dems. I was just on Huff Post (have to go under occasionally) and a lot of comments were positive for Rush or at least in agreement that we should not be paying for BC. Honestly...people are struggling and the last thing they want to hear is some law student whining about the cost of her birth control. Now that we hear the Obama called her a lot of people are thinking...why doesn’t he call me and see what I am dealing with.
Why should I and my fellow countrymen pay for any ones contraceptives. Especially if it’s for this woman who wants to screw more than a rabbit. Have we gone into the Twilight Zone.

They spelled this jerk’s name incorrectly. It is not Susan Fluke, but Susan Fuke. What a difference an “l” makes. It tells the truth, and that’s no fluke.
Jay Carney, the Obama third-rate mouthpiece, was unhappy with the portrayal of this “student” (30 years old and the life of Georgetown Law School), so he came to her defense. Still, she wouldn’t give him a quickie.
Sorry, Jay, even loose women have some standards. So you came and went away empty-handed.
