***Newt Gingrich had an epiphany. He had to, or he would have self-destructed.

As a small child he witnessed his father beating and abusing Newt’s mother. She divorced him, remarried, and Newt was adopted by his step dad. Later he was sexually molested by a high school teacher. Yeah, the first wife he married because she became pregnant. He felt obligated. She asked for the divorce, not him.

This man was carrying a troubled emotional burden while serving in Congress but he sought counseling, joined AA and eventually turned his life around after a religious conversion.

What I’ve found shocking is the enormous number of so-called Christians here at Free Republic who are nothing of the sort.******

WOW!!!!!!!!! You just described not only a lot of FReeper’s but what the Christian community is all about.

***Christians are not better than other people. They forgive others, ask forgiveness for themselves, and try to lead a better life by not sinning further. I’m not disgusted with Newt Gingrich, who I believe has honestly changed his life. I’m disgusted with the bigots who claim they are Christian but do not put it into daily practice.****

Thank You for posting this. I am 110% in agreement. I am a Christian and I have a real problem with organized religion due to your points. I am a sinner like Newt and I know from the father that I am forgiven.

GO NEWT!!!!!!!!!!!!! And again, what a great post!!!

Thanks for nothing, Ted. Add you to the Coulter/Drudge list.

Your first concern should to be, to stop, Romney.

Pick your level of conservatism.

Romney is not my favorite., but he’s not Obama.

Obama/Romney, many of us have taken a stand.

If this is true, the primary race is over.

Thank you for saying this, SD. Forgiveness should be a priority for Christians. Let those without sin cast the first stone.

And a point to consider.

Although, Newt has been married four times, he was faithful with the marriage. I’m not aware of him actually having any extra-marital affairs, while actually married. Any extra-marital affairs that he did have, was when he was separated.

That tells me that he was honouring his marriage commitment as he understood it to be. He wasn’t intending to disregard marriage itself.

"Governor Mitt Romney: 'These guns are not made for recreation or self-defense,' Romney said. 'They are instruments of destruction with the sole purpose of hunting down and killing people.'"

Your source please...

Why?

Since this is old Romney stuff, why do you demand duplication?

Waco-area resident and rock star Ted Nugent announced today on Twitter that he was endorsing former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney’s bid for the GOP presidential nomination. But he said things would be different if Texas Gov. Rick Perry had run a different campaign.

“If the real Rick Perry had been at those debates, he would still be in the race,” Nugent told the Tribune Friday. “It is my firm belief that Rick Perry would have [made] and would make the best president we could choose.”

Ted made a mistake... I disagree with him... which is rare. He will live to regret this decision... when mitt bans all semi autos... and I will remind Uncle Ted of his BIG ASSED MISTAKE!

He will actually be worse than obama... the elite gop win and boehner and mcconnell will give mitt unencumbered liberal big government spending without critique. That is their history and it is undeniable.

Well said.

Newt is a courageous realist - he entered the arena in order to offer solutions - knowing full well that he would be assaulted and criticized by the media, former colleagues, brutal negative ads and a bitter ex-wife.

He is absorbing the pummeling and pushinf forward - still positive, still maintaining his brilliant proposals for saving this great nation from the corruption we are enduring.

...Newt was an alcoholic? I never knew that.

Agree completely with what you said. I’m still hoping and praying that when all is said and done, NEWT GINGRICH will be the nominee for whom I CAN vote for in November. Thanks for your post!

I believe wife #2 had substance abuse problems, including alcohol. One doesn’t need to be an alcoholic oneself to go to AA meetings.

I’ve said this before. People will endorse Romney because they perceive him as the frontrunner. They don’t want to be seen as backing a loser. And I’m sure there are more than a few who expect some position in Romney’s administration if he wins. Not sure what position Ted might expect. Interior Secretary maybe??. LOL
