Obama: Sin is what doesn't match 'my values'
SRN News.com ^ | March 2, 2012 | Michael Foust / Baptist Press

The one-hour interview by Cathleen Falsani was conducted when Obama was running for U.S. Senate (2004)...

Among Obama's most intriguing answers, he says he believes there are many paths to God. His answers on heaven and sin, though, have drawn the most discussion:

FALSANI: "Do you believe in heaven?"

OBAMA: "Do I believe in the harps and clouds and wings?"

FALSANI: "A place spiritually you go to after you die?"

OBAMA: "What I believe in is that if I live my life as well as I can, that I will be rewarded. I don't presume to have knowledge of what happens after I die. But I feel very strongly that whether the reward is in the here and now or in the hereafter, the aligning myself to my faith and my values is a good thing. When I tuck in my daughters at night and I feel like I've been a good father to them, and I see in them that I am transferring values that I got from my mother and that they're kind people and that they're honest people, and they're curious people, that's a little piece of heaven."

FALSANI: "Do you believe in sin?"

OBAMA: "Yes."

FALSANI: "What is sin?"

OBAMA: "Being out of alignment with my values."

FALSANI: "What happens if you have sin in your life?"

OBAMA: "I think it's the same thing as the question about heaven. In the same way that if I'm true to myself and my faith that that is its own reward; when I'm not true to it, it's its own punishment."

Obama said he is a Christian but that he also draws beliefs from other religions.

There are many religions for which works are the “path to salvation”. Christianity is the ONLY one that does not. How this clown can claim Christ with his belief system and NOT ONE journalist knows enough about it to call him on it just shows how far we have fallen.

All those years of sitting in Wright’s farce of a church did nothing for him.

I would feel relatively comfortable saying that Obama is not actually a Christian. He seems to believe in the effacacy of his own works, has a remarkable lack of belief that the soul is eternal and that there is a place where God will welcome those who follow God’s precepts.

He also speaks not at all about Jesus actually atoning for our sins, which is the foundational principle of the religion he professes to believe in.

“It’s hard to understand how BOzo could spend so much time in a pew and not be able to even fake being a Christian better than he does.”

Not really. They didn’t have much Christianity in Reverend Wright’s church.

So much for Jesus' atonement on the Cross when you can just live your life as well as you can.

Bingo. He definitely does not "get" Christianity.

"What I believe in is that if I live my life as well as I can, that I will be rewarded."

With 72 virgins perhaps??????????

FALSANI: "What is sin?"
OBAMA: "Being out of alignment with my values."

He didn't finish his sentence, but you know in his mind he was saying" "Being out of alignment with my values....like joining the Tea Party, for example.

Sooooo many wrong things in just one interview.

The guy clearly is not Christian. He may try to cover himself with a veneer of Christian but there’s no Chrisianity underneath the wafer thin coating.

If you read what he says, it’s much more close to what muslims believe than what Christians believe.

He doesn’t “presume” to know what happens to him after death. It’s not presumption when the Bible tells you what happens to you after death. If you die with Jesus as your personal Savior, because of His atoning death for you, you are able to be with Him in Heaven. Now every Christians’ review of their lives, and from it, rewards and lack of rewards, is not known to us at the moment as they will vary by person, but it is hardly presumptuous for a Christian who believes in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, to say I know I will be in Heaven when I die. That is the CERTAIN hope Christians have. Not the “gee I hope I did enough good to get into heaven” uncertain, wishing hope that every other works-based religion - which all other religions are = works-based - have.

Arrogant fake. No mention of God, no mention of the Bible. Only mention of sin being failure to align with HIS values.

Humanist, not spiritual. obozo answers to nobody. If he does answer to a “higher power” it is his koran.

I would imagine there are quite a few in politics who share these same views. Sadly, too many voters probably view this as being tolerant and open minded.

You are correct in all respects. You are right that he is not worth the breath to speak of.

The only thing worth the time is to show that he is a fake to others and I really doubt that if they don’t see that by now they ever will.

Just as in your citations, this statement is either a lie or full of ignorance of the truth. My Bible tells me what happens after I die. I don’t have to presume it, I only need to believe it.

“I don’t presume to have knowledge of what happens after I die.”

I only pray I don’t meet this devil in eternity.

Anyone else notice that when Obama has said “Koran”, that he pronounces it with an Arabic inflection in the voice?

There's a youtube video splicing together occasions where BO talked about the Koran. In every case, he called it "the holy Koran." What Christian would refer to the Koran as holy? The Koran and the Bible cannot both be holy.

Hmm, no mention of a global or societal or even better, a Christian view of sin.

He is of the opinion that good works will get him into Heaven and he actually thinks HE gets to be the one who judges his sin. I can hear Narcissus saying, damn, that guy is seriously Narcissistic.

1) When has he done any 'good' works?
2) He went to a supposedly Christian church and doesn't understand that the only remission of his sins comes from the Son?

He's going to have a fun time explaining to God his life without an advocate (Jesus) by his side. Maybe he can ask Bill Ayers to help.

I hope he likes water; burning scalding water for which there is no relief.

I can hear it now, "Depart from me, I never knew you".

That would be the “72 virgins” answer

he cant even answer the question and dodges it by hiding behind his daughters

but his view of the afterlife seems a lot more islamic than Christian

the “values” he got from his mother? Contempt for America? Posing for nude photos for lecherous black marxist Frank Marshall as a teenager?Chasing and casually but obsessively bedding dark skinned men? Pursuing gratuitous graduate studies in Indonesian textiles after hiring a tranny nanny and then dumping a 10 yr old on his grandparents to raise? No wonder he ignored her while she was dying and only came home to dump her ashes into the sea. Same with grandma.

hack hack (sorry, hair ball)

I hope you will read and heed the counsel of fellow Freepers who write about the atoning blood of Christ the Lord. Dependence on this Atonement of Christ for you, and your belief that God raised Jesus Christ from the dead, is the only measure of a person’s Christianity, according to Scripture. I am praying for you.
