Gingrich Won’t Criticize Limbaugh, But Says Obama’s Call to Sandra Fluke Was Opportunistic

HAMILTON, Ohio — Newt Gingrich avoided criticizing Rush Limbaugh for publicly assailing Sandra Fluke over her testimony to Congress advocating for health insurance companies to cover birth control, but he was quick to attack President Obama, saying he acted “opportunistically” when he called the Georgetown Law student to express his disappointment in Limbaugh’s comments.

“I think the president will opportunistically do anything he can,” Gingrich said after a rally at the Back Porch Saloon. “I think the most important use of language in the last week has been the president’s apology to religious fanatics, and I want to stay focused on what the president has said, and I think what he said was inexcusable and is exactly the wrong policy at a time of life and death, and playing political games is irrelevant as far as I’m concerned.”

After Limbaugh took to his radio show and called Fluke a “slut” for her stance on contraception, Obama phoned the woman Friday afternoon to extend his support.

Asked if thinks contraception will continue to be an issue in the presidential campaign, Gingrich said the problem is infringement on religious liberty, not contraception.

“It’s about the attack on the Catholic Church and the attack on every right to life institution and whether or not the government has the power to dictate to religious organizations,” he said.

So, it looks like this “reporter” has it all figured out. Obammy is the good guy and Rush is the bad guy for telling it like it is.

The woman in question certainly appears to be a slut based on her on words. and no, the public should not be paying for her lifestyle.

Newt is half right.
Obama is a political opportunist, but what he misses is that Rush was being jocular. He was funning with the libtards because he knew it would spin them up.

Good on Newt!! :D

Speaker Gingrich understands Alinsky tactics.

The left developed them in part, against Gingrich himself, with the help of spineless ‘Republicans’ who ran away the moment the left started their smears.

Gingrich knows.

Gingrich handles himself better than anyone else. Over the past couple of months I've expressed a general preference for either Santorum or Gingrich. No more.

I've seen Santorum apologize too much in recent weeks. I hate that. I really, really hate that. No apologies. Ever.

On Super Tuesday, I will be voting for Gingrich.

First of all, the issue isn’t about the Catholic Church trying to ban contraception, because it’s not. The issue is that the federal government is trying to force the Catholic Church to pay for contraception.

Second of all, Ms. Fluke is not a “co-ed.” She is a 30-year old political operative with an undergraduate degree in New-Agey women and sex studies.

Third of all, why is the Catholic Church supposed to pay for the contraception of a woman wealthy enough to pay $65,000 tuition a year, but so poor she can’t afford $9 a month to pay for her own damned pills?

I’m confused. Did she really testify to Congress or just do a photo op with Pelosi?

Opportunistic would not be the word I would use.

More like pandering as in “The Panderer in Chief”.

What does he think now that she has been outed as a complete fraud? She’s a 30 year old lib lawyer not a 23 y.o. student.

I don't think Newt missed that. Please don't make the mistake of thinking when you read quotes in an ABC news link that you are getting every single thing a person said. There is nothing in the published quotes about Rush' humor either way from Newt.

“Newt Gingrich avoided criticizing Rush Limbaugh for publicly assailing Sandra Fluke”

Gingrich understands the left. He refuses to play their games. I don’t always like everything he says but no one else running for president even comes close to advancing the conservative agenda as much as Gingrich.

I am hoping for a Super Tuesday super miracle. Go Newt!

Newt handled this perfectly. What the media people were looking for was an opportunity to run headlines like “Gingrich agrees that student is a slut” or “Gingrich scolds conservative giant Limbaugh” He did not fall into the trap.
