Campfield dumps Gingrich for Santorum
Knoxville News Sentinel ^ | March 3, 2012 | Tom Humphrey

Posted on 03/03/2012 12:20:39 PM PST by Elvina

State Sen. Stacey Campfield, co-chairman of Newt Gingrich’s campaign in Tennessee, announced today he is quitting that position to support Rick Santorum in the Republican presidential race.

The Knoxville Republican made his announcement in a post on his blog. In an interview, Campfield said he believes that conservatives need to unite behind a single candidate and that Santorum is best positioned to defeat “establishment Republican” candidate Mitt Romney.

Campfield’s decision comes after a conversation with Santorum earlier this week.

In his blog post, Campfield said he was “twisted inside because of my loyalty to Newt, my loyalty must first lie with my country and getting a country with a conservative leader must take precedence to my own personal whims of fancy.

“I....personally prefer Newt and think he would make a great president”

Best part of the blog. The rest is just mindless drivel.

Hmm, IIRC the only successful invasion of Georgia came from Tennessee. On the flip side some historically minded Georgians still seem to bear a grudge against anyone who’s surname starts with ‘S’ and ends with ‘m.’

Wednesday’s headlines: The South Dumps Santorum for Gingrich

Thanks for coming out Rick.

I wonder what you think about this, Charles. Isn't it a little difficult to apply the adjective "principled" to someone who does something like this?

Pious 2

"Hmm. That’s quite a list. I presume you are saying that somehow the state co-chair of the Gingrich campaign was unaware of that list, and so made this decision in ignorance? That would seem rather hard to believe."

Some things are not explainable.. Is Mark Levin ignorant of these facts when he's backing Santorum?

Our BEST chance is GINGRICH/WEST!!!!

If your joke was an allusion to General William Tecumseh Sherman, please note that his last name does not end in an m.

Ummmm...Campfield should have heard by now the latest in Tennessee after he stuck his finger in the wind. Newt is surging and Santo is bleeding - everywhere.

Gingrich West could not be stopped. It would be a rout.

Oh, if we could get that lucky.

He’s a big gov’t gop-e.

It's Santorum or Romney on Tuesday everywhere but Georgia. If you can't figure out Santorum's a far better choice, you have no right when if Romney or Obama ends up in the White House.

Gingrich's only chance in the race depends on Romney collapsing on Super Tuesday. And, Santorum winning in states like Ohio is going to be necessary for him to have that chance.

Might as well dress Santorum in a ballerina unifrom when he debates Obama

If Santorum can hold his own with Gingrich, why wouldn't he be able to do the same with Obama?

The reality is that Santorum is closer to Obama than any other Republican in the most recent Rasmussen poll.

Like Santorum, you know what's best for me, right?

Santorum is an amateur and is only a balsawood dolt. IMO

He can't

Given where Santorum is with less money, it is obvious he has more than held his own with Newt.

No. Would you?

I prefer Gingrich over them both by a lot.
