Tough Questions: How secure is the U.S. border?
CBS ATLANTA ^ | Feb 27, 2012 | Jennifer Mayerle

ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) - CBS Atlanta News reporter Jennifer Mayerle travels to the Texas-Mexico border to get tough questions answered about security at our national border.

Illegal immigrant Jesus Jimenez was deported after committing a crime in metro Atlanta. He returned to the U.S. illegally, only to be accused of committing another crime. Jimenez is in jail charged with murdering his wife. Fayette County District Attorney Scott Ballard thinks that may be the main reason he illegally crossed the border again.

The Texas/Mexico border is a river. Easy to cross, that is the reason we have always called illegal aliens “wetbacks” I saw the the New Mexico and Arizona border a few years ago and it was a few strands of rusty barbed wire. I doubt if it has changed very much. I haven’t seen the California/Mexico border so I can’t comment.

For sure, if we all listen to her, we will all be killed be it we took a trip to Mexico. You can hear Big Sis and Obama chime in with, oh this was an isolated incident. We still maintain Mexico to be safe to travel back and forth to...You know however they will spin it..

There is only one cure to the repeat offenders... Before deportation for the second time (gotta give them one chance to follow our laws) they get a tattoo in big block letters across their foreheads, "PDIE," for "Previously Deported Illegal Alien."

That should cut down on repeat offenders.

Has the DHS figured out how to stop the BATFE from shipping civilian firearms across the border to the drug cartels yet?

The US does have a safe border. It is the longer one in the North.

Got this in an email this evening from the New Mexico Cattlegrowers Association:

The U.S. State Department has prohibited travel for employees without armored vehicle and armed escort. As a result the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is suspending cattle inspections at the border crossings in Palomas, Ojinga and Cd Acuna, Mexico, which border New Mexico and Texas. Last year USDA suspended inspections in Reynosa, N Laredo, and Pierdas Negras. Its slow season, it expected that the USDA will re-assess the situation in 30 days. Solutions require input from U.S. Customs & Border Protection and cooperation from SAGARPA and Union Ganadera de Chihuahua. At this time, crossings will continue at Santa Theresa.

Better check your map. Baja California borders California. Tijuana is next door to San Diego.

Absolutely agree. I saw “Act of Valor” today. The portrayal of the intersection of Islamic terrorism and cartels has never, IMHO, been so well portrayed.
The line explaining this was “they want to attack America, the cartels bring things into America”.
I thought the selection of Philipinos as Jihadis was well thought out. Trained in Asia under Muslims from the Middle East, show up in America, speaking Spanish and mistaken for Mexicans, very logical.
I hope the next administration closes the border before the threats outlined in the film become a reality.

Tough questions?

Nothing tough about it.

Nothing.

I was Operations Director for the Texas Minutemen for two years. I spent about six months on the border. A O’s were the east end of El Paso / Juarez to Ft. Hancock and northwest of Laredo to Eagle Pass.

I also worked with two others and Jim Gilchrist designing, building and operating the C&C portion of the original Minuteman Project out of the Miracle Valley Bible College south of Sierra Vista in the spring of 2005.

In those two years with TM I spent six months on-the-border. Not near it but on it as in I could toss a rock in the Rio Grande.

Is it secure?

Picture a nice, new, fully finished gate with nothing but fence posts in the ground extending from either side.

No fence, just posts.

And the posts only run for a few miles.

OK, you have got the picture.

Our borders secure?
If a 12 year old mexican kid with a couple of bottles
of water can make it across, what is to stop a 20 year
old terrorist who has been trained to kill and taught
escape and evasion?

Nothing.

“The words “Border and Safe” do not belong in the same sentence. Our government could close the border if they wanted to. Evidently, they don’t want the border closed.”.

Why close the borders when you want all the cheap votes you can get? Why close the borders when you want to bankrupt Social Security? If you get the freeloaders dependent on you, at least for a while, then they will vote to keep you where you have the power to keep feeding them and giving them “free everything”.

Self fullfilling and never ending, UNTIL the bucket is finally empty and the whole country is lost. Then you can claim the status for yourself as “King” (of a third world country by then). That is a simple answer, no?
