Sleep Train & the Betrayal of Rush Limbaugh
my brain ^ | march 4th, 2012 | me

Dale Carlsen was about 24 years old and had been merely selling mattresses, but finally Dale got frustrated and went into the biz for himself. He was coming up on having to make a payment on the loan for his new, tiny mattress company.

He didn't have much money, and this loan was at over 20% interest, ok?

Worse was that Dale had chosen the location of his first mattress store in gritty South Sacramento, near Sac State, alongside some train tracks, next to a flea market. He'd thought the flea market foot traffic would bring customers, but in fact flea market afficianados are not huge mattress spenders, right?

And in fact that first Sleep Train location had lots of drug dealers and SLUTS nearby --I'm serious.

So in fact young Dale was looking at a major business failure for his little struggling company. But next door to his little disheveled mattress dump was a pizza place, and that's where Dale, the CEO of the erstwhile tiny Sleep Train, Inc. would eat:

A drummer had taken time off from touring with his band to sell radio ads for KFBK, a Sacramento radio station, simply cuz his buddy worked there. So this drummer had gotten this gig as an, "Account Exec" and he would eat at the pizza place next to Dale's tiny, dumpy mattress store:

One day Dejected Dale is staring off into space over an oily pool in a piece of pepperoni, muttering about not being able to sell mattresses to sluts (a bit like that Georgetown feminazi from hell, except that these really were pro sluts). Meanwhile sitting next to him was Mr. Radio Account Exec, drumming his hands on the table, and he chirps back to Dale's, to cheer him up a bit, "Well there's a new guy at KFBK who just moved into town, and he needs a mattress..."

Dale goes, "OK well send him by..."

Maybe you have figured out that this guy who needed a mattress was Rush Limbaugh...?

OK well, poor fat Rush (who by that time had been fired 7 times and was 42 or so) waddles into Dale's place to buy his mattress for his tiny and empty apartment in none other than Rio Linda (which was the only place poor Rush could afford to live in Sacramento, at the time).

Rush bought a mattress, and being a natural salesman also convinced Dale to consider advertising on his show, on KFBK.

And Dale did exactly that, he took out ads on the show of fat, poor Rush Limbaugh, the unknown whose career would shoot skyward like a P51, and completely transform AM radio from an empty backwater for kooks and weather afficianados into a hotbed of politics and a, "Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy".

And Rush turned on the charm, and talked up Dale's mattresses so much that they drove from miles and miles around, saying, "I want the same mattress Rush sleeps on..."

And so with that thunderclap of Rush-mediated publicity it turned out that Dale could make the payment on his +20% interest loan --he survived. And soon after he opened up a branch adjoining the parking lot of Rush's station, so intimate was the link between the growing success of each man.

And now Dale Carlsen has over 250 stores, in Sleep Train, making 1/3 of a billion dollars yearly.

But then something happened:

Dale fired Rush, the saleman extraordinaire, who'd saved Dale decades before.

Sleep Number

We were thinking about getting a sleep number bed to replace our aging one soon. To bad. They will be getting a call from me. No sale.

Very well said!

You point out one of the major differences between libs and conservatives. When a conservative stubs his toe, the rest are willing to throw him to the wolves insteadd of sticking together.

Good point and hopefully the GOP candidates are smart enough to take your least Newt would be.

While it could work to the benefit of our candidates, I don’t think Rush had this in mind when he overshot the runway with his commentary though.

I asking the person who implied there was something wrong with it. I know nothing wrong.

and right on cue:

WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich says Rush Limbaugh was wrong to call a college student a “slut” and “prostitute” in the debate over contraception coverage, and was right to apologize for the comments.

My own advice: “Good point and hopefully the GOP candidates are smart enough to take your least Newt would be.”

“Gingrich tells CNN’s “State of the Union” that he’s glad the conservative commentator issued the apology on Saturday and that it’s time to move beyond the controversy.

Gingrich says it’s “silly” to suggest that Limbaugh speaks for the GOP. Gingrich contends the media are “trying desperately to protect” President Barack Obama.”

The guy who calls the chikifycation of America goes & does a mea culpa. RUSH - RIP.

That was sort of my reaction too, maybe mixed with sadness. But I think maybe we should give Rush a chance and see whether he has some other shoe to drop. Folding like a cheap camera (anachronistic expression, I know) hasn't exactly been Rush's MO over the years.

I bought a Sleep Number bed the week after my 2nd wife got her stuff out of my house - in 2005 - and I still think its the best. Heard about them first on Rush.

I'm glad you had a good experience with it, Bossmechanic. We ended up donating ours. We found it deflated frequently, the distribution of air was unequal, and in the cases where it deflated over the course of one night, we'd wake up with terrible back pain. It couldn't take the same kind of punishment a normal spring bed could handle. We were outside of the warranty period by then, so no use complaining. We donated the bed in the end.

It was a terrible experience.

Rush will survive. This slut has done her job well though. She is a slut in more ways than one. She is a political slut.

Rush will survive.

Limbaugh takes his marching orders from his advertisers and sponsors. People who are manipulated, and or who's actions are motivated by money, should never be taken seriously.

The left is in lockstep all the way when fighting their enemies (us), and all they have to do it say the least little thing and the conservatives start in-fighting.

The left is honest enough to know that they do not care whether they are being dishonest hypocrites. Meanwhile, the right is concerned about honesty, which is one of its major appeals to the newly converted. Is dumping that asset what you really want?

Here is what we should say: Ms. Flake is admittedly promiscuous by her own choice. She is expecting the public to pay to preclude the predictable consequences of using the reproductive organs of her body for their biological purpose. She is expecting you to buy the idea that pregnancy, the natural consequences of promiscuous behavior, is equivalent to a disease. She has a disease all right, but the cure is psychiatry, not contraceptives.

Virtually every human being knows that if a young woman has sex she might get pregnant. Every study on the consequences of female promiscuity cites venereal disease and pregnancy as likely, if not inevitable outcomes. Every study on marriage and family indicates that premarital promiscuity is bad for the stability of the succeeding family. Every study of the eventual success of children as adults suggests that the future of our society absolutely depends upon stable two-parent families.

This Flake doesn't care what her behavior costs society and she feels NO responsibility to its future. She wants to continue this self-destructive pursuit of animal gratification, and expects the government to FORCE you to pay so she can play.

Premarital sex isn't a right; it's a choice. Pregnancy isn't a disease; it is a blessing (and if you don't believe that, look at how much people will pay for infertility treatment or adoption). This young woman's values are destructive to the one essential process necessary for a successful and happy society. Yet she wants to force you to pay to make things worse... ALL so that she can have orgasms.

She is a slut. And I won't take it back.

His show was a lot better in the old days before the GOP became “we”. It might be a blessing if they gave this to Hannity and Rush went back to being himself with a smaller show or satellite.

The reason conservatives have no power despite being a majority, we do not take revenge, we always find away to excuse peoples actions if we have to take a hard stand!

Carbonite Corporate Headquarters

I think Rush fans should convince Mark Levin and Sean Hannity to kick Carbonite off their shows.

He dropped GM because he didn't want to push the Dolt.

How many radio shows do you know of who drops sponsors like GM?

20-25 million listeners is a powerful position to be in. Rush picks his advertisers, he doesn't need to march to their tune.

Your source link doesn’t work.

I don't really have any source link --I simply got really mad and wrote all that stuff by myself --the source really is my own mind, my ears.

When folks post a thread, they must provide SOME sourc --even for a Freeper Exclusive-- so the source URL I supplied was something I had to simply make up out of thin air.

It's a database thang.
