Axelrod Slams Gingrich Comments

NewsCore) - President Barack Obama's re-election campaign strategist David Axelrod hit back Sunday at Newt Gingrich's ongoing criticism of the president for a rash of violence in Afghanistan, calling the Republican candidate's comments "irresponsible."

Six US troops were killed in three separate incidents after the burning of Korans at a US airbase in Afghanistan late last month sparked violent protests across the war-torn country.

Both Obama and the top US commander in Afghanistan, Marine Gen. John R. Allen, apologized for the unintentional insult in an effort to calm the hostility.

In campaign appearances since the incident, former House speaker Newt Gingrich has seized on Obama's apology to criticize the president for showing weakness and failing to defend US troops. During interviews on Sunday, he continued to hammer Obama for his handling of the crisis.

"I don't believe that the president saved lives by what he did," he said on CNN's "State of the Union." "I believe the president set a terrible precedent of a commander in chief not standing up for American troops."

"Frankly, if the Afghans don't want us there we don't need to be there," Gingrich added. "But the idea that we are apologizing while religious fanatics kill young Americans, I think is reprehensible and I think the average American thinks it's just profoundly wrong."

Axelrod fired back that Gingrich's comments were "irresponsible" during an interview on ABC's "This Week."

"You know, the thing about not having any responsibilities is that you can say irresponsible things. And the speaker avails himself of that opportunity all the time," Axelrod said.

"But the reality is, that the president has in his hands the fate of all those service people over there, and that's foremost in his mind," he added. "And the commanders on the ground felt that a high-level apology..

'This Week' Transcript: Newt Gingrich and David Axelrod

.............."GINGRICH: We now have the U.N. commissioner to Afghanistan -- no, just let me finish. You have the U.N. commissioner to Afghanistan in essence saying, since the president has admitted the United States is guilty, these people should be tried. Now, I think that is a disastrous position for us.

STEPHANOPOULOS: But you know, before the president apologized, the commanding general on the ground, John Allen, apologized. He did it, he said, in order to save lives.

GINGRICH: I think at some point, somebody has to also stand up and say, these Korans were defaced by the radical Islamist prisoners. Now, I haven't heard a single Muslim cleric say that it was wrong to deface them. They were being used to pass communications back and forth.

You know, there's a point here you have to draw a line and start telling the truth even if it's painful. And the truth is, this issue, much like the Danish cartoons several years ago, is being used by our enemies, and I think we don't have the nerve to stand up to them and describe it for what it is.

And I think this is a huge problem for us, because it puts us in a position again and again and again of apologizing, which is something this president has done all around the world. And I think it's wrong. I think America in fact has been trying to help the people of Afghanistan. And if they don't believe us, I don't think we need to be there having them try to kill us."......

And Obummer's treasonous "apology" about the un-holy korans (I wipe a dead pig's butt with them!) wasn't "irresponsible", directly leading to more US Military deaths?

Thanks for sharing.

The blood suckers/the radical regime of the Un-American behavior knows that Newt is stabbing right at the heart of the radicals agenda. These media operatives are our enemies in truth. I pray that enough people decide to fight them and take them on by issues. Wake up, America.

"You know, the thing about not having any responsibilities is that you can say irresponsible things."

Much worse than that is "having responsibilities and then doing very irresponsible things", which is what the idiotic Obama and his cohorts are doing with Afghanistan and our troops.

What Obama has done is to put our troops in much bigger danger than they used to be in, and, what Obama did was to create the conditions and reasons for the Taliban and Al-Qaeda to kill more of our troops. The enemy knows an opportunity when they see it, and they know that, what we have is a weak president, whose war and diplomatic strategies are to issue apologies, no matter what the issue. They know that, Obama is more about pulling out of Afghanistan and surrendering and apologizing, and that they can kill our soldiers with impunity.

Worst "leader" ever.

And Axelrod is worse than an idiot.

Gingrich: ‘Baloney’ that Obama’s Quran burning apology saved lives W/ video of this segment.

"Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich on Sunday blasted President Barack Obama for apologizing after U.S. troops allegedly burned Muslim holy books in Afghanistan.

The president told ABC News last week that the apology was necessary to “save lives” because protests over the Quran burnings have caused multiple deaths, including at least five U.S. soldiers.

“If the commander-in-chief apologizes in a setting like that where — remember, the Quarans we’re describing were defaced by Islamic radical prisoners, they were defaced by them,” Gingrich insisted to CNN’s Candy Crowley. “When the president of the United States says, ‘I apologize,’ he is basically taking on blame.”

“Lots of people apologize for accidental things,” Crowley pointed out. “You bump into someone, you say I’m sorry. It’s not unheard of.”

“I don’t believe the president saved lives by what he did,” Gingrich asserted. “I believe the president set a terrible precedent of a commander-in-chief not standing up for American troops. I think he should have called [Afghan President Hamid] Karzai and said — you know, it was Karzai’s soldier who killed those first two Americans. Have we heard any apology from the Afghan president, for his soldier killing young Americans? No.”

“Obama went around the world apologizing. This excuse of his is baloney. He has apologized so many times or in so many countries, it is frankly embarrassing to have a president who thinks that apologizing for the United States is good policy.”

Last week, the former House Speaker implied that the president favored Muslims over Christians.

“You’ll notice the President Obama is very quick to apologize for Islam while he attacks the Catholic church,” he said at a campaign rally in Macon, Georgia on Thursday, referring to the Obama administration’s requirement that all health insurance companies cover contraception for women.

“This is the most anti-religious administration in American history. And you have my commitment that on the very first day, I will issue an executive order that turns over every single anti-religious act of Barack Obama.”

There are weak and strong relationships.

What is the verdict on Obama and this General?

HInt: the strong ones do not require to say “I’m sorry” as a trust of working together on a common project of good law making/preventing is a cause of manly confidence between two parties professionaly acting on a common project.
