I’m in Texas, bought a Ruger hand gun early last week - there I was, a woman having a good time with the Texas Red Necks who were there, too, only they were buying ammo. A man came in a little later to buy a gun.
I was surprised there were that many men at one time buying ammo.
It takes 30-45 min. for all the paperwork, then you get the gun. I couldn’t believe one of the questions I had to answer: “Are you a wanted felon?” Yes or No. I laughed out loud at that one.
The really funny thing is that if you were, and said you were not, you couldn't be prosecuted for lying on the form. It would you see, be a violation of your 5th amendment right not to incriminate yourself. You could of course be prosecuted for Felon in possession.
I guess it's really not so funny. But you have to laugh at the stupidity or you'll cry.
Never underestimate the STOO-PID-ITY™ of the Federal Gubmint.
I have a BATF 'Collector's License' (C&R, Class O3). And on the application and renewal forms they ask the Felon question. Also if you're Mentally Ill, an Illegal Drug User, or an Illegal Alien (like who would answer yes, duh). Too boot they added an additional form in recent years that 'Certifies' you are not an Illegal. And guess who fills out and signs that form 'certifying' you're not an Illegal Alien -- YOU DO. (they're complete Morons.)
But it gets even more STOO-PID™. On the BATF application to become a Firearms Dealer they ask if you have a State Hunting License and to fill in your number. BUT - this is where it gets good (stoo-pid ) -- they state that if you DON'T have a Hunting License to STOP and not submit your application because -- 'You probably can't qualify to become a Firearms Dealer'!! I was like HUH??? Like what does one thing have to do with the other.
Maybe they hope that with all the dumb questions someone will get lazy and check the wrong 'Yes', 'No' box by accident. Then they have you and your gun rights are gone forever.
