ProFlowers Latest Rush Limbaugh Sponsor To Pull Its Business

A post on ProFlowers' Facebook page announcing it has suspended advertising on Rush Limbaugh's radio show. (Facebook)

By Michael A. Memoli March 4, 2012 The number of advertisers who have at least temporarily cut ties with Rush Limbaugh grew to seven on Sunday in the aftermath of the conservative radio host's self-described "insulting word choices" about a female law student.

ProFlowers, an online florist, is one of the latest companies to announce it would halt advertising on Limbaugh's show.

"Mr. Limbaugh’s recent comments went beyond political discourse to a personal attack and do not reflect our values as a company. As such, ProFlowers has suspended advertising on the Rush Limbaugh radio program," it announced on its Facebook page.

ProFlowers, like other Limbaugh sponsors, faced pressure from women's groups to end its relationship with his show after Limbaugh branded Georgetown University law student Sandra Fluke, 30, a "slut" and "prostitute," equating Fluke’s advocacy of expanded coverage for contraceptives with her wanting to be "paid to have sex." Fluke has been a vocal supporter of a new Obama administration rule that mandates greatly expanded access to contraceptives through health insurance plans.

One activist group, UltraViolet, said 91,000 people had signed its petition urging ProFlowers to suspend advertising on Limbaugh's show.

"UltraViolet members are glad that ProFlowers decided to suspend their advertising from the Rush Limbaugh show. … Our members hope that ProFlowers will do the right thing and not only suspend their advertising but pull it permanently," it said in a statement.

It is okay for Bill Maher to call Sarah Palin a C—t! on national television but Rush is forbidden to use the work slut when talking about a femi-nazi.

I got now! How could I have forgotten my political correct lessons in the reeducation camp, also know as the lame stream media!

Talk bad about Conservatives is GOOD!
Talk bad about Liberals is BAD!
Talk good about conservative is BAD BAD!
Talk good about Liberal is GOOD GOOD GOOD!!!
Talk bad about Obama is bad bad bad and you are a racist!!
Talk good about Obama is enlightened speech.

Talk about the size of Michelle's butt is not only racist but you are almost blind not to have notices her elegant cloths and petite frame and absolute beauty and grace. Not to mention her total familiarity with protocol when visiting royalty and heads of state. Never a faux pas or even minor error. Don't you understand when she put her hand on the shoulder of the Queen of England it was by the Queens request and was humbly received by the queen. The queen knew her subordinate place as compared to Michelle.

I think I will now clean my keyboard with alcohol.

Pro-Flowers lost my two May birthday flower orders as well as the one for Mother’s Day.

I will tell each of my local florists who has ProFlowers that I will not buy from them. I have several great plants/trees/florists near me where I can get anything I want at competitive prices.

They said they don’t subscribe to any political point of view yet they cancelled ads because of being pushed by the political left. This has to be the dumbest response I’ve ever heard a company issue.

Very simple. Liberals believe in double standards. Which is ironic since they claim loudly to oppose such things but their actions say otherwise

And conservatives don't do the same? Come on, we do. We rail against and start campaigns against businesses that take stands against that which we believe.

Sorry, but whining about the left doing what the right does is just the same kind of double standard you are railing against here.

I too just sent them an email stating that they won’t have my business any more.

We need to show these cowards that the left is not the only ones that can play the boycott game.

All this fuss because Rush used a naughty word, and then apologized for doing it.

These advertisers are cutting off their noses to spite their face. Let them go.

I don’t get it. There are lots of places to order flowers. Why call ProFlowers? Rush’s endorsement, of course. No more endorsement...they may as well turn out the lights.

Companies like Pro Flowers will be back in 2 months.

Its good (and free) publicity to be announced you are “pulling your ads”

Titus, like all comedians, run out of good material fast. Then they go political and get vulgar. Look at Ron White. Tonight I turned off Ralphie May because of his vulgarity and his PC crap condemning AZ’s immigration law.

“Can FReepers start a counter boycott?”

YES WE CAN! It just takes a moment. Tell the Deweebs at Pro-Flowers what you think about pulling support of Rush.

It would be nice if we could have this info posted permanently on FR. Have you tried speaking with JR?

Kinda dumb... Lots of competitors in that space, and a new company could offer Rush an equity stake in exchange for ads (ala 2 if by tea). Could take a lot of market share.

“I noticed they suspended their advertising but did not cancel... betting they are waiting for it to cool down and then will try and get back on...”

Yes, I noticed this as well. My guess is they're getting hammered on this, and are probably regretting this decision. What makes this suspension even more ridiculous, is that they announced it even after Rush's apology! If I were Rush, I'd permanently suspend ProFlowers. They showed NO loyalty to Rush or those of us in his listening audience who made many purchases from them.

Despite being criticized and even rebuked by the National Organization for Women, HBO “Real Time” host Bill Maher isn’t stopping with his slurs directed at female conservatives. And this time, he went after Sarah Palin once again.

According to a March 28 post by Arnold Wayne Jones on The Dallas Voice website, a publication that describes itself as the “premier media source for LGBT Texas,” Maher made a Sunday night appearance at the Winspear Opera House and leveled another attack at the former Alaska governor.

“It’s that fearlessness — he acknowledged that some people would probably be uncomfortable with some of his remarks about religion, not to mention calling Sarah Palin [the “c” word] (“there’s just no other word for her”) — that makes Maher the most dangerous person in comedy,” Jones wrote. “He’s painfully well-informed, which means he takes no bullshit from anyone. President Barack Obama took it on the chin almost as much as Rush Limbaugh or Glenn Beck. How dare the President say he would not settle for America being No. 2 — America is already out of the top 10 in most international lifestyle and human rights categories (health care, education, social mobility, women in high political positions). ‘I’d be thrilled if we were No. 2,’ he ranted, noting it’s nice to be behind Bosnia in life expectancy (where the chief cause of death is wolfman attacks, he joked).”

On his Friday show, Maher called Palin and Minnesota Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann “bimbos.” That came one week after he called Palin “a dumb twat.”
