Limbaugh Advertisers Flee Show Amid Storm
The New York Times ^ | 5 Mar 2012 | BRIAN STELTER

Posted on 03/05/2012 6:46:44 AM PST by mandaladon

Emboldened by Rush Limbaugh’s public apology over the weekend to a law school student whom he had called a “slut” and a “prostitute,” critics of the radio talk show host are intensifying their online campaign against his advertisers. he apology, they said, was a signal that the campaign was working. On Sunday, a seventh company, ProFlowers, said that it was suspending all of its advertising on “The Rush Limbaugh Show” despite his apologetic statement a day earlier.

For now, the ad boycott is uncomfortable but not crippling for Mr. Limbaugh, who is estimated to make $50 million a year and whose program is a profit center for Premiere Radio Networks, the company that syndicates it. The program makes money both through ads and through fees paid by local radio stations, and while it often has sparked outrage during more than two decades on the air, efforts at ad boycotts in the past have had no measurable effect. Liberal groups and activists, however, hope that this time is different.

Mr. Limbaugh has been roundly criticized for talking at length about the sex life of Sandra Fluke, a Georgetown University law student who testified in support of the Obama administration’s requirement that health insurance plans cover contraceptives for women. For three straight days he lambasted her, before saying in a statement Saturday afternoon that he did not intend to attack her personally. “I chose the wrong words in my analogy of the situation,” he said.

By the time he apologized, online protesters had been organizing for days on social networking Web sites and liberal hubs like Daily Kos. They called on companies like ProFlowers to remove their ads from “The Rush Limbaugh Show” and appeared to be having some success, as companies like Sleep Train said they had suspended advertising.

Since then all these ol'gals have come forth with the "some women" ploy. At the same time we have information on Fluke herself about how she picked Georgetown Law because, ta da, they didn't offer BC in their student health insurance package. That is, she went there to create a conflict. Apparently it wasn't all that successful, but she tried.

There is an important point to be emphasized in your sentence.

She is discussing STUDENT health insurance, not employee health insurance. In other words, her health insurance is not tied to her ability to make a living. The funny thing is, Georgetown has a health insurance mandate, just like Obamacare. The students are REQUIRED to carry either the health insurance package offered or comparable outside insurance coverage as a stipulation for enrollment. So not only did she choose Georgetown because their insurance doesn't cover birth control, but also because they mandate you have a specific level of coverage.

I'm thinking I'd like to try and start a movement for all those who support Rush to become 24/7 members. I have considered becoming a member off and on for awhile, now I think is the time to commit to show support.

Rush screwed up big time...this may bring him down and he has no one to blame but himself.

Rush did a good thing. It will clean out the rotten advertisers that are nothing but liberal communist like fools. So he can now dump the fools that support the destruction of America.

No one is going to say “I’m a slut and I’m a prostitute.” She definitely implied that “we” — need to be paid $1,000 a year for birth control. She opened herself to ridicule and Rush rushed in. Good for him. You really are a useful idiot.

How idiotic. She did not have to publicly state that she has loose morals—her own history (see post #91 on this thread) says a lot about her. Are you saying Rush can only comment on what she said in that one setting—or does he get to consider her entire history? I repeat, you are doing the left’s work for them.

All of a sudden the New York Times has time to talk about Rush Limbaugh.

Joseph Gobbles would be so proud of the current state run media empires.

I think announcing to a sponsor that you’ll never buy their product or service again is a waste of time. Please understand I don't mean this as any kind of personal attack, but I think this line of thinking has almost destroyed conservatism in this country. When the leftists set about trying to ruin Rush over this Fluke thing, did they consider it a "waste of time"? Did they question the usefulness--or rationality, even--of what they were about to do? NO. They went on the offense. And it worked. We can't now sit back and hem and haw over how effective this or that might be. As Andrew Breitbart once said, "You have to go for the throat with these people."

I repeat—I’ll care about something “bad” (yet likely truthful) that Rush says when the left shows the same outrage for what is said about conservatives. You can join the political correctness brigade if you like, but I’ll sit this one out.

Is that a way of saying you demonstrate the same situational ethics that liberals do? That there is no right and wrong? That if the person who does wrong is one of 'our guys' you give them a pass?

No thanks.

I always thought one of the nice things about conservatism was in we believed in right and wrong, not in 'whoa, it's only wrong if it not our guy doing it."

If we had been politically correct and oh so mannerly back when we parted ways with England, we’d still be subjects of England. We face a similar situation now, and we’d better have the guts to come out and call something what it is—in this case, a slut, because our right to do that is being challenged, just as our right to NOT fund abortions is what is at the crux of the whole Rush v. slut situation now. Bow to them now, and you’ll be bowing to them forever.

Mr. Limbaugh has been roundly criticized for talking at length about the sex life of Sandra Fluke...

It's true - I'll bet there's not one person in the newsroom of the New York Times who doesn't 'roundly criticize' Rush Limbaugh - for EVERYTHING. Absolutely everything that comes out of his mouth - other this issue and every other issue.

I'll bet they're dancing in the aisles over this one - the bullies think they've got him on the ground - - they're all kicking him in the face... they really do hate us that much. Usually members of the Democrat-media Complex have to contain their hatred of us because too many people agree with us - but on this issue they feel the freedom to vent their pent up hatred. Go for it boys - you outnumber us, you buy ink by the traincar - throw your weight around... what credibility do you have left to lose anyhow?

Once you use certain words, slut among them, you lose. Use of that term is not satire, it is polemic. You turn off many people, many who would be predisposed to listen to your position. You want to win? Make a commercial or DVD showing all of the ignorant things that Maher, Obama, Wasserman-Shultz and yes Fluke have said and mass market it. USE FACTS!!!! Personal insults are useless and stupid. That’s what pisses me off about the Republican Party. They never atttack using facts. Instead, the Dems can say that Republicans want to take away Social Security or school lunches. I could create an ad campaign that would make these people look like fools. But at the top of the party, this would threaten their grasp on the power held within. They don’t give a crap about us, the average Joe.

I just posted this on another thread:

Rush, whatever else he may or may not be, is not stupid. I think he manufactured (perhaps with some hints from the background) this entire Fluke/slut tempest in a teapot.

Why?

It diverts attention from Arpaio’s report and coincidentally Breitbart’s death. Breitbart’s death, the threatening “bomb scare” about Lincoln’s assination that Rush got in the mail, the fact that the media people were threatened years ago not to touch Zero’s eligibilty - etc. Rush is not so stupid as to hound on the slut’s slutdom for days and then apologize. And all the companies pulling advertising is also pre-arranged or at least on directives from “above”. They make tons of money by advertising on his show. It’s meant to warn any other media people not to touch it.

The whole things Stinks totally.

Leftist are fighting dirty - the dirtiest of dirty. They want to re-enact history - like the Bolshevist Revolution, for instance.

Obsessing with off color words - and “slut” is not an off color word, even - is the very best way to make sure that the Left wins.

This is not a parlor game. It’s about the very life and death of our Constiutional Republic. The Left uses every single dirty tactic and crime available to them. I’m not saying those who don’t want the Left to win should commit crimes, but courage and standing on principle and not worrying about being polite are the only freaking way to win. Your way means continuing to compromise, apologize, never discuss the real issues like the crimes the Left commits, make squeaking sounds and lose big. And losing now means losing our Constitutional Republic and maybe our lives.

Facts are facts, and Fluke did not discuss her personal sex life at all.

Actually it was more in the tone of the Royal We.

Rush is Doomed, woe is us.

If you disagree, simply point to anywhere in her testimony where Fluke admitted to being a floozie.

The entire content of her press conference was to prove she was a slut, so get over it, go buy some Pro Flowers, or something.

This is to replace the post that’s (going to be) deleted. I’ve taken out the reference to Corsi’s interview with Alex Jones. The important point is that the media - including so-called “conservative media” (Fox and Clear Channel talk radio) is a propaganda arm of George Soros on the things he cares enough to threaten them over, with enough conservative-sounding talk to maintain credibility with many conservatives.

Here’s the basic info:

I’m pretty sure Clear Channel was one of the radio media companies that was threatened in October of 2008 and again within a few months after the election.

My dealings with my local Fox radio station, KFAB out of Omaha, strongly suggested to me that the threats were extended all the way down to the local level.

What Soros is doing here makes Al Capone seem like a choir boy. This is total, tyrannical control over the airwaves of every square inch of America. I REALLY, REALLY hope Americans wake up to see what’s happening here and decide not to let the Soros coup work.

For those who haven’t been following the story of the media threats, I’ll re-post from a previous post:

The major media companies have been threatened - at least once before the election and at least once in the first few months after the election - with both FCC and FTC annihilation after the election if they reported about Obama’s eligibility issue, and it’s claimed that Glenn Beck left Fox because the threats continued even after Beck ridiculed “birthers” but continued to report on Soros’ and Obama’s ties to communists and Islamists. Beck couldn’t provide protection for the lower-level staffers and Fox refused to provide protection and tried to stop him from exposing Soros’ ties because somebody from Fox’s Board of Directors is tied to Soros financially.

Most people in the major media are in bed with Obama and Soros and their communist-Islamist alliance so they didn’t mind the threats. Doug Hagman says that’s actually what one witness said was brought out in one of the meetings where the media company told the on-air personalities that their jobs would definitely be lost and their lives and families’ lives were questionable if they reported on the eligibility issue.

But the threats were very real for the “conservatives”, which explains why we’re basically functioning without ANY media willing to cover the communist-Islamist coup currently taking place within our own country.

Those claims were made by Doug Hagman. Links are below. The transcript of Hagman’s interview with Laurie Roth can be seen in Tom Ballantyne’s book “Oh Really O’Reilly”, for anybody who doesn’t want to slog through 3 hours of audio.

And Mike Zullo, commander of Sheriff Arpaio’s Cold Case Posse, has verified that the threats actually did take place. See http://www.wnd.com/2012/03/did-threats-silence-media-on-obama-probe/ for the article, and/or see http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2856160/posts for discussion regarding the article.

I’ll post here a comment I made earlier that gives the links for the Hagman information. I should also add that before I got confirmation of the accuracy of Hagman’s claims from Mike Zullo personally, I constructed a timeline of events related to potential Soros threats, and based on that timeline I had already seen that Hagman’s claims were very credible, which is why I reported them to Zullo and why he investigated them himself. (It was when I tried to forward my timeline to Zullo that my ISP informed me that my reply to Mike’s e-mail couldn’t be sent because the address failed; so I forwarded it to a go-between who forwarded it to him with no problem. Somebody with power to control the ISP didn’t want me communicating with Mike about Soros’ threats.)

Those threats were actually basically repeated PUBLICLY when Media Matters told Ben Smith that they were conducting guerrilla warfare against Fox, trying to get British regulators to destroy NewsCorp - right after Hannity had agreed with Trump’s statements that Obama should release a BC (which led to the release of what the posse has now confirmed is a forged BC).

Here is what I posted earlier about this, which puts into perspective Breitbart’s death, the bomb scare with Rush Limbaugh, and the presser all happening on the same day (taken from the thread at http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2854663/posts ) :

Right, but if he depends on Clear Channel for anybody to hear him, they can tell him what to say.

And this is a critical issue because Soros has threatened the media companies - including both TV and radio - if they reported on the eligibility issue. The same day as Sheriff Arpaio had a press conference saying there is probable cause that Obama’s birth certificate and draft registration are both forged, two of the most independent and effective conservative media entities received “messages” intended to be overheard by every reporter at that presser. Rush had the bomb threat situation. And just hours after interviewing Sheriff Arpaio, Breitbart was dead.

So the country isn’t hearing that a law enforcement investigation found that Obama’s records are forged. They’re hearing that Limbaugh called a gal a slut.

What the MEDIA, though, is hearing, is that Soros meant what he said when he threatened them - because Soros is working on taking out anybody in the media who MIGHT HAVE reported on the crimes that Soros & Co have committed to take the White House and country by an illegal coup.

The media is scared spitless. WND has also reported on this now; a thread about it is at http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2856160/posts. Doug Hagman had investigated that, and the posse has corroborated his claims. What Hagman said was that the media people he spoke to were scared - and that was long before this situation with Breitbart and Limbaugh.
