SAN FRANCISCO Two small, back-to-back earthquakes shook San Francisco Bay area residents awake Monday morning but appeared to leave no serious damage or injury.
The U.S. Geological Survey reported that a magnitude-2.9 quake struck at 5:33 a.m. about eight miles northeast of San Francisco in the city of El Cerrito. It was followed eight seconds later by a magnitude-4.0 temblor, said geophysicist Paul Caruso.
The shaking was felt within a 60-mile radius, from Santa Rosa in the north to Santa Cruz in the south.
The California Highway Patrol, San Francisco police and El Cerrito police said they didn't receive any immediate reports of injury or damage.
Bay Area commuter trains were briefly delayed after the quake to inspect the tracks.
Seismologists said the quake appeared to occur on the Hayward Fault, a seismically active fault that runs along the eastern San Francisco Bay. A 2003 USGS report said the Hayward Fault had the highest chance 27 percent of producing a large earthquake of magnitude-6.7 or higher in the Bay Area within 30 years.
"We know that the Hayward Fault is the really important fault in the Bay Area," USGS seismologist David Schwartz told KGO-TV on Monday.

HA.....we laugh at your 4.0s !!
Just wait until Bush’s Fault lets go
4? That’s not even news there. The number of quakes daily on the ring of fire is surprisingly large. This is like reporting that there was a fender bender in Los Angeles today.
About an 8.0 and the whole area will sink into the Pacific....
Dare we dream....
You mean you’re actually DREAMING FOR THIS TO HAPPEN?
Unless the gay bay slips into the ocean, I really don’t want to hear about it. When it does though, I’ll be thrilled to hear about it and cheer at its demise.
My comment is always..."hmmm, pre-shock"
.
Those USGS earthquake maps just don't convey the whole picture, do they?
I found this tiny little program to be very valuable in seeing the WHOLE PICTURE at once.
Just go to link, download the program (takes like 2 seconds) and run it. Awesome CONTROLS, I spent hours with it when I first found it.
Thanks!
ROFLMAO.

The string line is coincident with the fault (and the Cal Berkeley football stadium is on it, too.)
.
So, do you believe that there are NO good conservative God-fearing people in the entire San Fransisco area?
Anything under 5 will only raise my right eyebrow. I was in 4.6 3 years ago. I was sitting with a friend who was 99 at the time. We felt this slow roll and then the earth gave two last attempts with some severe bolts that felt like some giant hand had slapped the side of the house.
After it was over we looked at each other and just started laughing. She thought it was funny that her home had survived worse and in general, for some reason, it just seemed funny.
We went through several like that over the years with the best being a 6.3 a year earlier.
I live just 7 miles off the San Andreas and a few miles north of San Juan Bautista. We get em all the time and the only time I can recall ever being concerned was a time I was visiting a friend.
It was at that time we had a 5.6 that rumbled a little longer than usual. My friend and his wife let to their feet and ran outdoors.
I was on the phone trying to figure out how to install their new flat screen and my only concern was the TV was sitting on the edge of the shelf at about a 45 degree angle, as we had not yet anchored it to the wall.
I got up, walked to tv and push it flush with the wall. Saved!
I finished the phone call and installed the as my friends suffered the aftershocks.
I, of course, slept right through it.
So you'll be happy when the 90-95 percent of Bay Area residents who aren't gay go along with them?
Many think we are just collateral damage and don’t realize the second you step out of major metro areas the democrats are instantly out numbered. Living in Gilroy, I can tell you it’s absolutely true.
...and that's a damned shame Vendome. Small minded thinkers they are.
Magnitude-4.0 quake caused by Global Warming shakes San Francisco Bay area
The only conservatives left in SF come out of their graves on voting day and cast votes for libtard demoncrats.
So I guess that would be a NO.
That and most conseratives moved out of there years ago.
let me know when it is an 8. or 9. mag. then I might care..
Right on, Vendome. I live a half mile from the epicenter of the ‘89 quake. These little ones don’t bother me, but I’m very aware that the Hayward fault is extremely vulnerable right now.
I’m sick of the Bozos who would like to see the total destruction of the Bay Area.
Not nearly strong enough
My girlfriend’s duaghter and five grandchildren live on the epicenter of this quake and I have plans on visiting them in a couple months. Thanks in advance for keeping your comments to yourself or at least don’t ping me. FReegards, DocRock
Why is that?
bump quake
my prayers go out to keeping you guys in SF safe. I live in NoVA and work in DC and get the same type of freeper comments wishing for the death and destruction of my friends/family as well.
A 4.0? Was there an earthquake or did Nancy Pelosi’s facelift just fail?
People don't think before they make those kinds of posts...I don't think they really mean it. But those posts are symptomatic of the sheer hatred most of the country feels for your state. It seems that every evil idea that's corrupteed our culture for the last 50 years has come from CA. The hollywood left, the 9th Circuit, the huge gay population and their agenda...alot of people trhink that's ALL CA is, because they're so vile and so loud.
Nice USGS snap.
However, What I was referring to was the reference to the ‘ring of fire’, and the ability to see things on a global perspective.
Have you tried EARTHQUAKE 3D ?
“my prayers go out to keeping you guys in SF safe. I live in NoVA and work in DC and get the same type of freeper comments wishing for the death and destruction of my friends/family as well.”
Really! Why bash the troops on the front line? Send reinforcements or something.
Thanks for your sane post.
No didn't try it, didn't want to take the time to download an ap at this time.
Sounds really interesting, I will look at it when I have time.
Don’t ever complain about liberals cheering the deaths of conservatives then.
Is this leading up to a predicted March 22 “Big One”?
Check out this You Tube in which a fairly credible (albeit unorthodox) researcher he said that he wasn’t sure WHERE around the Pacific plate it would hit, but that it would be preceded by a “Swarm” of smaller pre-quakes.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJiLKUoPdaA
He also predicts that due to an imminent planetary alignment, augmented by this essentially invisible “High mass object” which could be a dark star of some sort (”Nirubu”???), it will be huge; possibly a magnitude 10 or even greater than anything ever recorded.
If it’s coming down in Nancy Pelosi’s home town then the entire US is going to be in for a BIG spanking. The impact might be on the Left coast, but it is going to hurt all over.
The leftists wanted to kill over 25 million of us (at least they did back in the 1960s - it’s probably twice that now); I wonder how many of them are going to go before us? Unfortunately a lot of good innocent people still live in California - not all of them have fled by any means - who are likely to be tragically impacted.
Were I a better Christian I’d pray for them all, wicked and just alike. But then there’s that “Pearls before swine” thing....
Let’s just leave it at that.
I’ve long sensed that we were in for something that would make 9/11 look like a traffic accident by comparison, but didn’t know if it was going to be from the Muslims or from “Mother Nature”.
Could just as well be from God I suppose. Look what He did for Sodom and Gomorrah. Is Californica really much better these days?
(I know I’m going to take some heat for that one!)
Check out the correlation between US gov’t edicts condemning Israel or demanding concessions to the barbarians and the occurrence of “natural” disasters in our country? The “Camp David Accord” would be a good place to start.
“Coincidence”? You decide.
Look for smaller quakes starting to cluster on the CA coast - if and when they do, it’s probably time to call your friends and family out there and try to convince them to either take a trip somewhere inland for a while... or maybe say goodbye.
Apparently this dude who has predicted the “big one” has a pretty good track record for calling them. His last prediction for a major quake was off by 4 days, but he says he’s corrected his calculations since then.
(Really pretty music on this one): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdqimuL-ZoM&feature=related
On my earthquake3D program i’m now seeing another cluster around Chili with one 6.1, and a swarm of much smaller - 2 and 3 mag tremblors all up and down the CA coast from SF through LA down to the Baja - some fairly well inland, well into Nevada.
Could Chili go down and trip the CA fault line shortly thereafter, like a chain reaction? Judging by the stronger “cluster” down there that might be the 10+, but if it sets off the Northern faults it won’t be much fun for CA either!
Imagine the tsunami potential if both chili and CA get dumped into the Pacific? Hang on Hawaii!
This probably at the very least bears watching.
Click on the “Earthquake” button over the interactive map. It’s showing a LOT of activity in the region.
Once I saw the Up Your Alley pix from a couple of years back, I have no desire to every go there again. Drive through? OK. Pay for anything there. Not if at all possible.
Sorry for the innocents affected by the quake, though.
All with documentation from The Institute of Phenemonology for boney fidos.
Each one will predict a massive earthquake in California on a specific day.
It was started January 1st of this year. One will be possibly be right.
I'm betting on Eugene Dixon.
If one does not come this year, the process will be done again next year.
This and the tornadoes that just hit are good reminders to everyone to make sure their emergency supplies are in place, water containers filled and evac plans up to date—wherever you live.
About an 8.0 and the whole area will sink into the Pacific....Oh look!Dare we dream....
Ever been to The People’s Republic of California?
:)
(Grew up in East Williston and bay Shore)
In the first place I don’t. But when will the so-called conservatives ever figure out that the worthless liberals mean it. They do not give a damn about any one other than themselves and the only reason liberals are alive is because self rightous conservatives have to save the stupid lemmings.
What state are you in?
Or are you too embarrassed to say?
I want to wish for death, injury and destruction for you and your neighbors.
Lemme know Mr. ggwyo
Oh look! Another look at me everyone, I hate Californians too dimwit.
These people have zip for class, and run around here spouting crap talk like some 12 year old brat.
No, we don’t hate California, but we realize that most people in San Fran hate the US, and especially it’s military.
We realize they elect people who actively want to destroy the US, Red Ron Dellums, Pelosi, etc.
We realize they actively support universities that are internally dedicated to the destruction for Free Enterprise and all that this country holds sacred.
And those people can all slide in to the Pacific, and die a slow painful drowning death!
