PROFESSOR: Self-Segregation Is What's Keeping African Americans Out Of Silicon Valley

And it's all because of self-segregation, says Maya Beasley, author of Opting Out: Losing The Potential Of American's Young Black Elite and an assistant professor of sociology and African-American studies at the University of Connecticut.
Beasley, who is bi-racial, noticed the trend as a graduate student at Stanford University in Palo Alto, the heart of Silicon Valley. Beasley told Joseph Walker at the Wall Street Journal's FINS that she witnessed a "fair amount of Asians and South Asians and a lot of white people, but there really weren't any African-Americans. You'd pick up the paper and find out about a new start-up but they were never founded by African-Americans."
Beasley says:
There's a danger in completely segregating yourself. When black students only interact with each other it really inhibits the information they're getting. White students are getting advice from their parents and summer jobs through their connections. If you're limiting the number of times you're spending with white people, you're also limiting the types of information you have available to you.
Black students need to learn to interact with white people and have some amount of comfort with them and I don't think that's asking a lot. I'll say freely that black students face lots and lots of racial antagonism on campus, but that's not the only thing they're going to encounter, and that's not the only type of white person they're going to encounter on or off campus.
Since there is already a lack of African-Americans in the tech sector, it makes others more weary to join. Instead, African-Americans are going into social work, education and government administration in large numbers,

In other words—taxpayer funded diversity payrolls. Nothing where individual initiative or responsibility counts.
An average IQ of 85 explains this. C++ compilers doesn’t give racial preferences. Code either works or does not.
I know a Silicon Valley electronics company that was founded and is still run by an African American to the best of my knowledge. They’ve carved out a nice niche for themselves in a particular area of instrumentation technology.
I don’t want to give their name because I don’t have permission to do so and because they may not want attention drawn to the minor detail of the ethnicity of their senior management. I’ve personally dealt with the son of the founder and he’s a good guy; was very helpful to me on a project.

The “hip hop” culture is a plague where ever it strikes. Born in poor Black neighborhoods, the self segregated Hispanic, Asian and White youth are falling ever more under its spell. Drugs, sex, and hanging out are more exciting than work although a lot more dangerous. Legalized drugs would only increase the pool of slackers and force them into other criminal enterprises that the already have something of a monopoly on (robbery, pimping/prostitution, protection). Tribal in nature, people quickly adapt to it.
I don’t think anybody believes that blacks CAN’T do it.
But it’s another case of appearing too “white”, so they WON’T do it (by and large).

1. A young 19 year old black man was mfg and selling the first RAID racks in the 1980`s out of Buffalo NY - met him at the first computer convention in San Francisco.
2. In Late 1980`s the first computer PC clone manufacturer in the East Bay north of Oakland was a black man and his son.
3. The biggest retail PC clone dealer in the East Bay in late 1980`s - early 1990`s Fruitvale district was a black man.
They were out there making there dough right in their own backyard monopoly markets.
The India/Chinese/Taiwan/Vietnamese clone makers in Fremont/Silicon Valley couln`t compete with them coz they didn`t have any grasp of the black PC market at all.
These American black PC dealers/mfg`s got first bids on all the govt [schools, county etc.] computer contracts vs. the foreign India/Chinese/Taiwan/Vietnamese. They had so much biz they couldn`t keep up with it. They all retired multi-millionaires.
The only hard disc recovery company at the first computer convention in San Francisco was owned an 18-year old black man from Sausalito, CA.

I have worked with several extremely competent black people in tech, there is no good reason there shouldn’t be plenty more.
Skin color doesn't matter either; it's the culture. Blacks can be just as successful as anyone if they want to be.
Maxine and friends do not want that to be the case. They need slaves to stay dependent with money flowing; so Maxine can skim off her cut.
I know some that as well, but they are the exception. There is no technical reason they should not go into high tech, but they certainly are not.
I wonder if Maya Beasley knows her days as an assistant professor of sociology and African-American studies are numbered. Since she is bi-racial, she probably will be thrown out of the the African side of her African-Americanism. Poor thing, now all she can be is an American. No more affirmative action. No more points added to her test scores. No longer able to attend rap concerts and get shot at. Lord knows this poor woman is in deep trouble. However the good news is, she will still be able to get free contraceptives under Obamacare.

Well, having studied both Engineering and computer science, I did notice that most of the African-American students encountered significantly more challenges than the white or Asian students.
This phenomena repeated itself again during MBA studies when subjects such as Econometrics, advanced statistics and managerial accounting were on the slate...
I understand that in Detroit, less than 20% of this demographic can actually complete the dumbed-down ghetto high schools. Disturbing information.

The famous equation written on that peel won't have any "substance" to the babboon... but that doesn't mean it is without substance.

I get it, I understand the tendency to generalize the academic plight of Blacks, but if we’re serious about the numbers, there’s no intellectual deficit among Blacks the prevents the rise of the individual, without affirmative action.
Let’s forget about the arrogant bigots that parade the flag of contempt for “white man’s knowledge”. They’re assholes, and they don’t deserve to carry the banner of Ignorance & Stupidity for the young Black kids that are starting their lives anew. And not to forget the hopes of the parents that want nothing but a healthy and happy life for their child.
