2004: Romney signs off on permanent assault weapons ban

. . . . .

In a move that will help keep the streets and neighborhoods of Massachusetts safe, Governor Mitt Romney today signed into law a permanent assault weapons ban that forever makes it harder for criminals to get their hands on these dangerous guns.

“Deadly assault weapons have no place in Massachusetts,” Romney said, at a bill signing ceremony with legislators, sportsmen’s groups and gun safety advocates. “These guns are not made for recreation or self-defense. They are instruments of destruction with the sole purpose of hunting down and killing people.”

Like the federal assault weapons ban, the state ban, put in place in 1998, was scheduled to expire in September. The new law ensures these deadly weapons, including AK-47s, UZIs and Mac-10 rifles, are permanently prohibited in Massachusetts no matter what happens on the federal level.

“Deadly assault weapons have no place in Massachusetts,”

Government has taken over completely?

If the GOP chooses to nominate a cross dressing lib for President, why should I vote for for the cross dressing lib, when a vote for 0 gets me the real thing?

Care to delineate the difference between a Machine Gun ban and the falsely named "Assault Weapon" ban?

A man that thinks this is insane, Romney is a dedicated, instinctively, anti-gun, nutcase.

"These guns are not made for recreation or self-defense," Romney said. "They are instruments of destruction with the sole purpose of hunting down and killing people."

“1986: Ronald Reagan signs off on permanent machine gun ban.”

Actually, we got a lot more in that bill than we gave up. Without the “Firearms owner protection act” as it was called, gun shows were nearly impossible, and any sale of a firearm to anyone could potentially get you in trouble.

As far as today goes, this is just a pathetic rerun of 1996. We just came off of a great win (2010/1994) and then put up a really weak candidate, causing gun owners to sit on their hands, and (clintoon/zero) to survive for another four years.

Boy it makes me angry that we can’t ever FINISH the job!

Anyone who buys into this idiotic legislation is both too lazy to examine the facts and too stupid to vote for. I’m for a permanent ban on Romney. It makes more sense.

“These guns are not made for recreation or self-defense.

Says who? If I want to go to a range and blow off a couple hundred dollars of ammo on full auto, what business is it of Romney's?

That is the history of the GOP, whenever the conservative voters find a way to make gains, the establishment always finds a way to counter them.

This fetid jerk is a real problem for me.

I don’t think I can hold my nose tightly enough to vote for another RINO this feculent.

If this louse wins the nomination I may have to drop out of my county central committee as our bylaws forbid not supporting the anointed candidate.

I am beyond tired of being taken for granted, “Raped without a kiss” as my granny used to say.

I may have to vote libertarian since they may have a more genuinely conservative candidate than Rot-ney.

I don't see a difference.

Look at prices of an M-14, M-16, Uzi or MP5 then versus now.

“And this is Ted Nugent’s choice for president?”

The NRA has been the leading supporter of every single major gun control law in the US, every last one. Hell, if it weren’t for Charlton Heston the 1968 Gun Control Act would have died out, yet, years later he is held up as the poster boy for the NRA. Ted Nugent is no doubt a major gun and archer enthusiast and is pro-gun, but for some reason I think his association with the NRA has spoiled his knowledge and thought processes.
