Newt Gingrich touts surge in Tennessee polls, predicts Georgia win
The Washington Post ^ | 2-6-2012 | Amy Gardner

KINGSPORT, Tenn. -- Republican Newt Gingrich launched a final, two-day swing across the South on Monday in advance of the biggest voting day so far of the year. Gingrich planned to campaign on Monday and Super Tuesday in Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia -- and vowed to exceed expectations in all the Southern states voting this week and next.

Gingrich touted new polls showing that he is closing the gap in Tennessee, and he predicted again that he will win his home state of Georgia with ease. In a morning interview on CNN, Gingrich admitted that losing Georgia could end his campaign and acknowledged for the first time that winning Georgia and losing all the other states Tuesday "puts me in a more difficult position."

“But, on the other hand, next week we have Mississippi and Alabama and Kansas, and I think I'll win at least two out of three," Gingrich said in the interview. "The latest poll in Tennessee shows a 17-point jump, shows me very competitive in Tennessee."

A centerpiece of Gingrich's latest effort to regain momentum is a promise to bring the price of gasoline below $2.50 a gallon. He mentions the subject wherever he speaks, and it is the subject of a new TV ad the campaign is airing in Tennessee, Alabama and Mississippi.

An independent group supporting Gingrich is also advertising on TV and radio in those states and several others. Gingrich's hope is to overcome Santorum's lead among conservative voters while Santorum and Romney duke it out in the marquee state of Super Tuesday, Ohio.....

I had to make up my mind and vote today.
I voted Newt.

In Georgia, from his congressional district so it’s like the 4th or 5th time I voted for him.

I remember the 1st time I voted it was because of Newt, Dem’s put up some cookie guy who they said would beat him, but I showed up and stopped them.

Feeling furious. Feeling oppressed, and very un-free.

I sadly feel this is how we’re ALL going to feel in the coming years if this continues.

It’s a terrible feeling — something very foreign, to be sure.

Our country is ABOUT choice. Sometimes those choices aren’t the best, but we have it. Just as God gives us Free Will — we are free to choose. But someone somewhere has decided to deny this choice to voters. I know they have their “rules” but one would think they could have suspended the rules in this instance.

But they weren’t about to ...especially with “Mr. Establishment Oh, Please Gov. Romney, please pick me, Bobbie McDonnell!” as our governor.

Thanks to Jim Robinson, troll CainConservative is gone. I followed him/her/it on every Newt thread today and now that job is over.

Words mean things and truth is supreme and we have a duty as conservatives to be truthful and root out non-truth whether it is on this forum or in our daily lives.

Tell the truth and live the truth, do not compromise.

VOTE NEWT TO SAVE THIS COUNTRY!

It will be tough to do but it would be neat to see Newt take 50% of the votes in Georgia. I am also rooting for Newt to come from behind in Tennessee and pull out a squeaker. I think Newt is also on the rise in Ohio. Could be a very good day for Newt. GO NEWT GO!

My husband and I voted for Newt today in Knoxville TN.

I am listening to a local radio program and people are calling in saying who they voted for. Newt has a slight majority so far.

One guy just said he voted for Santorum but there were no Santorum delegates for him to vote for so he voted for Perry delegates instead. I guess he doesn't know that Perry is backing Newt and hopefully his delegates will follow.

I had to vote for 14 delegates but there were only 10 committed to Newt so I voted for those 10 plus 4 Perry delegates too. I have no idea if these delegates will actually vote for Newt or how all of this will be reported tonight but I thought it was interesting and may work in Newt's favor in the end.

Probably the way it works is...

Santorum tells the Perry delegates to vote for Santorum.

Perry tells the Perry delegates to vote for Newt.

Newt tells the Newt and Perry delegates to vote for Newt.

The state party tells all the delegates to vote for Romney.

All the delegates turn out to be stealth Ron Paul delegates and vote for Ron Paul at the convention.

Get on J.D. Hayworth’s talk radio show on WRVA/1140 AM; 3 pm to 6 pm ...Tel 345-1140 if in Richmond area ...outside may need to dial Area Code 804 ...J.D. is auditioning his show and has hilighted the fix that is being foisted upon VA voters ...he's a Newt endorser.

I got on earlier this afternoon and told him both my wife and I protest voted for Ron Paul.

Take it to the Good Ol’ Boy Insiders!!!

Bless You! My family just got back from voting for Newt and all of his delegates (plus a Perry delegate to make 14) here in Tennessee.

It was an honor and a priviledge to vote for him. I have never felt so positive about a candidate, Ever!

Just for the record not all mormons are for romney. He actually makes me naucious. He makes algore and john kerry seem human.

when 90 of blacks voted for obama I said that’s messed up. Now that 90 percent of my fellow mormons are voting for romney i say that’s even more messed up.
