I have advocated Gingrich staying in until sometime in March. I felt the vote splitting would help prevent Romney from locking up a sufficient number of bound delegates to take the nomination. The plan did a good job so far, but not a great job.
I think now the mathematics is shifting such that Gingrich needs to bow out. The reasons for the shift are:
1. winner-take-alls coming up soon - vote splitting begins to really hurt us in these primaries 2. we need money consolidating behind Santorum. 3. Santorum made the Indiana ballot after all
But now Gingrich needs to bow out.
No way should Newt even think of bowing out....the south is his strongest turf....and should take this all the way to convention if he must. He’s the only man that can get done what needs to be in booting Obama and manuvering the Washington machine to get things right again.
Santorums plan is vague at best and doesn’t have any details of “How” he’s going to get to even first base...Newt’s going to hit the ground running and knows the path well...
Nope Newt needs to stay as Santorum will continue to loose his voters as they hear and see more of him and the veneer rubs off as we’ve been seeing..and for that Romney will rise again....but romney cannot rise above Newt if it’s Newt vs. Romney without the distraction of Rick.
‘Palin’...’Hannity’ and ‘Rush’ are now in Newt’s court....it’s on to Washington all the way!
Go NEwt Go!!!!!!!!!
Go south and watch! Newtron territory and big wins ahead! The fact you even question if Newt's a conservative speaks volumes of your understanding of who has done more for conservatives than any and all the candidates...check his record as speaker...nobody has matched his accomplishments for conservatism.
I beg to differ, this NEEDS to go to the convention.
I think Santorum is the far weaker of the non-Romney candidates. He can’t win. OTOH, Gingrich would be a powerful opponent against Romney and Obama.
Romney, with all his money, consultants and top ad people, cannot close the deal. The dog won’t eat the dog food.
Isn’t that the truth! Ohio would be but a blip!
On TEXAS, I believe it’s the desperate Obama crowd manipulating for the Hispanic Democrats for the general. I could be wrong but the dirty tricks can never start to early with Axelrod and what else do they have to do with their time right now, since Republicans are still fighting it out for a contested convention! Ha!
Georgia happens to be one of the few “winner take all” states, so Newt gets all 75 delegates.
Has anyone noticed that the MSM does not want to show the ACTUAL delegate count for all the candidates...even going into today’s primaries. Think it is because it would show that Romney and Newt are the highest two in delegate count?
Romney will become the GOP nominee.
Obama will be elected to a 2nd term by the brain-dead American electorate.
I want to see the actual delegate count to see who is in first, second, third and fouth place in delegate count. I know todays primary delegate counts won’t be figured out until all the percentages of vote totals are in....that is except for GA which was the only winner take all state. So Newt gets all 75 Georgia delegates tonight. He will also get a percentage of delegates from the proportional states who had primary today.
It is the delegate count that counts! Why won’t the MSM keep a running record going?? And show it???
Needs another reminder for folks who need the facts.
No to mention Santorums support for Christine Whitman. And here's what she stood for:
Pro global warming.. Head of EPA....formed action committee consisting of Pro Log cabin dudes.....pro-abortion...Pro- partial birth abortion....additionally was earmarked to serve under the Obama Administration.
So what business did Santorum have in voting for someone who stood in direct opposition to those things he claims he stands for.....or does he?
I see you are one of those stuck in the small picture.
Mano - Mano against Myth kills the conservative case upon arrival, gives a sigh of relief to the Establishment, and launches an immediate coalesce around the socialist, Romney and demoralizes the anti Romney voters, except for you.
Romney is Dole, only socialist.
NO MORE RINOS! Get it?
Actually, I was using RitaOK’S post 81.
I’m not sure that there is a truly actual count right now.
I believe any state that has a primary prior to April is SUPPOSED to be proportional. So using that rule of thumb, Georgia is proportional. Like you said, Florida is being challenged because they moved their primary prior to April and awarded their votes winner take all.
Since this is such an important election, I guess I have paid more attention than usual. Every state does things so differently. It was an eye opener for me. If I understand this, some of the delegates won’t be awarded until state conventions. So they truly aren’t “pledged”. The caucus states still confound me.
So in answer to your very simple question, I don’t think the delegate count is set in concrete at this point. Unless the published delegate count consists of “pledged” delegates.
No need to dig up negatives on Santorum at this point. Just choose between santo and Romney. Newts not in it and votes for him in future states help Romney.13222:—2-//2212_[/2-1-1-————1————————————2_1-1-——2/_{[\[——1-_[__

Newt fourth in delegate count??? I don’t think so! In fact I bet Romney and Newt are the two top in delegate count so far. Delegate count results will probably be out tomorrow.
Explaine this: Fox just showed Newt with 85 delegates. That means since Newt won all of GA 75 delegates, that he went into today with only 10 delegates?? That is BS! He won delegates in SC and a few in others. Since they had Newts totals wrong, I am sure all the other candidate totals are wrong too.
And although FL was a winner take all state previously, it was not to be due to moving primary forward. It is not final yet, but it is expected that FL delegates will be awarded proportional. That means Romney would not have all of FL delegates.
You are right, berdie, on the pledged and unpledged delegates.
CNN has had the delegate count up all night.
Now it shows
Romney - 359
Santorum - 139
Gingrich - 93
Paul - 60
Taken altogether, we are haunting and messaging the RINO Establishment that half the party remains ABR.
We want to take it to convention.
If ANYONE drops out it makes it harder and more expensive for one to carry all the water against socialist Romney.
Thanks for the info. I do understand that most states are supposed to be proportional, but GA is one exception. Reason I don’t know, but I was told that GA was the only winner take all state of the primaries today. You are so right about all the sates doing things differently. It really is hard to know what the totals will be! So many percentages to figure and also the rules in some states where it is based on percentage of votes in particular districts! Thanks again!
We shall surely see....one thing people still haven’t grasped, which even the pundits and former Presidents have stated...do not underestimate Newt...he knows how to make his moves work when they need to most...and he’s a history to prove it....He’s far from being done.
You see ‘Newt’s fighting for the country’...not for his political career as Santorum and Romney are, which BTW he has already succeeded as Speaker and more, and in the history books for that....... And he intends to fight on ‘every front’ with the plans to do so...not just the social issues...but the whole gamet of issues Washington has saddled this great nation with....and he’ll clear out the men and women who brought it to us...relentlessly. He knows where the cancer is and it’s tentacles.
.... Therefore his motive, his heart, his soul and mind are in a very different place than the others....’the country’ matters more to Newt than the glory...and that he will give back to God where it belongs and not at the feet of men who strip our country of it.
This IS the last chance...most know it...Only Newt can swing the hammer that needs to get the job done...and there is no other now... nor will come after him.
Uh, no.
Read up on your Aesop.
FAUX gets all it’s election news from CNN but ten minutes later and with none of the on sight counts as they are tabulated. Why are you watching FOX?
Sorry for the “secret coding” at the end of my post. That was my daughter sending messages to the other politically involved 7 month olds. She typed it without my permission, and so she has been sent to bed.
Thanks! Switching to CNN! :)
Hear here! Well and truly stated!!
Yep -- so obvious.
Newt can’t carry Ohio. No Republican has ever won the presidency without Ohio. I love listening to Newt and I love his fire, but he can’t win. In the end, I think his ex-wife did him in.
Take it to the convention works for me. :)
This kinda makes me sick to my stomach.
Romney beats AnybodyButRomney
The whole thing makes my head spin! But it does help me understand why candidates choose to not campaign in every state.
It’s time for Gingrich to put the good of the Conservative movement first. A “GOP win” with a drop-in replacement for Obama is no win. By pitting two conservatives against the Establishment, Country-clubber, we guarantee that Obama’s policies will continue.
Newt, you can’t let that happen.
No way. Santorum is a pro-union, big government, “compassionate conservative.” He’s even to the left of George W. Bush, and George W. Bush got us Barack Obama.
Dream on, Scooter.
>> What happened to you FRiends? Has FR gone insane?
I guess you’re oblivious to Rick’s big government, pro-union voting record.
If you read his early politics when he was pro-abortion and anti-Reagan (he described Reagan supporters as the "right-wing fringe"), and purely focused on the very moderate parts of the GOP, working only for pro-choice moderates, exactly the kind that he has always continued to support in elections, he mentions his theories on carving out a niche and hanging on to it.
Santorum used to label himself in his campaign literature, a "Progressive Conservative".
The early Santorum is always described as not being interested in issues themselves, but in how to use them.
Before switching to pro-life for his first campaign, this is how he described himself, like Romney he was.
"I was basically pro-choice all my life, until I ran for Congress"
This is his first campaign position paper he wrote to grab pro-life voters, it is less than inspiring.
We know what to call Romney supporting liberals also, anti-conservative.
>> Gingrich needs to bow out
Your boy first.
Bail out boys and individual mandaters, along with their sympathizers, want to call all that something other than socialism? LOL!! And YOU want to mess with me about hyperbole?
HaHaHaHa!
Take that hyperb’ crap and kick it upstairs to the Jimbo Big Guy Robinson.
He’s done a column on the socialist Romney on more than one occasion.
What do you call it? Fiscally responsible? Say so, give me your best shot.
Thank you....But just a shame the voters don’t see it MHGinTN....it’s so clear to me and others but for reasons other than I can grasp people still think Santorum is their guy when we have the best opportunity to get this country on track with Newt. It just boggles my mind.
God can still part seas and Newt has the ear to hear...so I’m with Newt until he says otherwise...and I don’t see him throwing in the towel before convention. And so....
Go Newt Go!!!!!
Well now that’s an intersting page from Santorum’s own hand.....does speak volumes doesn’t it. But I’m not surprised. Here in Pa we know how Santorum operates...and it still makes me mad he claims himself from Pittsburgh and then Virginia when from 7yrs. to graduation he lived in Butler pa. a town he’s too embarrassed to identify with.
See post 234.
...which Romney used four years later to beat Santorum over the head.
We need Newt.
No.
Needs another reminder for folks who need the facts.
No to mention Santorums support for Christine Whitman. And here's what she stood for:

You don’t even understand what I said you don’t understand.....which does prove one thing. Newts strategy to ignore the tiny caucuses with few delegates was stupid and Rick’s strategy to treat them like they were huge states ended up being smart - because folks like you fell for it hook, line and sinker.
The candidates need to duke it out until one is left standing. Give every Republican across the nation a chance to weigh in. I live in CA and we have to elect whom others decide is the nominee and I can tell you, it sticks in our collective craw. The only folks who don’t like to see a long drawn-out fight-to-the finish are the country-club Republican elites, but things are different this time - it’s not business as usual and people are paying attention to what’s happening.
Newt Gingrich is the guy I want to see standing when it’s all over.
It is winner-take-all California that is giving me an anxiety attack.
No, Georgia is not winner-take-all. They are proportional statewide, and 1/2nd for districts, with a 50% takes-all on the districts.
I ran the current results, and here’s what I think the delegate count is from Georgia:
Gingrich - 53, Romney - 17, Santorum - 3.
If Santorum had picked up 4200 more votes, it would have been: Gingrich - 49, Romney 14, Santorum 10.
I was ashamed of TN. last night. It seems as if all anyone has to do is come to this state, thump a Bible a couple of times, give a few speeches with a phony evangelist tenor, and Jethro and Maudine can’t wait to vote for them.
All any Santorum voters ever give as their reason for supporting him is his family values. A Republican Jimmy Carter is not the answer.
I don’t know if this is so, but I was told today that Romney made the statement that only an act of God could keep him from the nomination. Let us pray....
