After winning only one of 10 states in the Super Tuesday sweepstakes -- his home state of Georga -- GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich contrasted his "Main Street work" with rival Mitt Romney's "Wall Street money," and vowed to continue his quest for the nomination.
"We basically put people power up against money power," Gingrich told supporters in a ballroom at the Renaissance Atlanta Waverly Hotel and Convention Center. He repeatedly referred to Romney, who did considerably better than Gingrich on Tuesday night, as the "Wall Street" candidate.
There are lots of bunny rabbits to run through," Gingrich said of the volatile primary race. "I am the tortoise. I just take one step at a time.
He also zeroed in on President Obama, hitting the president on his energy proposals and promoting his pledge to bring gas prices down to between $2 and $2.50 a gallon.
"I believe I am the one candidate who has the ability to debate Barack Obama decisively, Gingrich said.
By winning the state he represented in Congress for 20 years, Gingrich met the standard he set for himself to continue seeking the nomination. If I can't carry my home state where people know me, I would have no credibility, Gingrich said.
But he was disappointed by losses to rival Rick Santorum in Oklahoma and Tennessee, two states where Gingrich hoped his conservative pitch held appeal.
A source in the Gingrich campaign confirmed to National Journal that the candidate will get Secret Service protection beginning Wednesday. The campaign had requested an official security detail in late February but only heard today that their request has been approved.
..Ping!
GO NEWT!!!
It’s about time!
Texas and California . . . plus here in AL & MS.
Go Newt! He has the experience and the vision!!!!
I’m afraid one state isn’t enough. It’s time to drop out or watch Romney take it. I was for him before, and it makes me sad....but enough is enough.
yes stay in Newt, split the delusion vote with ron and rick and speed up the inevitable Romney win.Im down with it.

Why should the best candidate drop out now? The south hasn’t gotten to vote for him yet. He’d be crazy to drop out now. You never know what will happen.
It’s much simpler than that. I think it’s you who does not understand the level of conviction true conservatives have this time.
I don’t give a crap about the Republican party if Newt doesn’t win. It’s that simple.
And is has nothing to do with Newt himself. NOTHING. It has everything to do with the delusion that we need a social conservative who has no clue about anything else.
Santorum is a weakling. He will not win against Obama, and even if he does, he is INCAPABLE of doing the job of President that will be facing him. He is going to have economic collapse and possibly a world war to deal with, and he has no idea how to handle either issue.
That’s it.
It’s not over ‘til it’s over!
And with such a non-conservative, lackluster candidate,
so ill constituted for this fight, who’s thrust upon us
by the Beltway pubbie establishment machine,
my question is
if we don’t fight now, when ALL the chips .. ALL our
treasure is at stake: WHEN DO WE?
Which is why smattering the open, broken primary system over the course of 6 months if !@#$ing stupid.
just vote for Oboma and you will be happy.
NICE!
You nailed it on the head. That is exactly how I feel.
Spam more.
that’s a good argument.
Santorum is a big spender on social issues. We can’t AFFORD him.
SARAH PALIN endorses Mr. Newt in Alaska. Great speech on FoxBusinessNews!
Newt won two states so far and has picked up delegates tonight. Perry was on saying that Texas is a doable and could be a big win for Newt.
Sarah Palin said Newt should NOT drop out and spoke very highly of Newt. Do not underestimate this very fluid and voilitile election where anything can happen and has
GO NEWT GO.....
Never surrender... defeat is not an option.
** President Newt Gingrich-”Our beloved republic deserves nothing less.”
BRAVO Advil! well said!
No, you don't get it. The rats will vote for a candidate with whom they disagree on 99% of the issues because they will do what it takes to pick up every percentage point one point at a time. They have patience, and can see the big picture. Guys like you want "Reagan or nothing". You will end up with 4 more years of Obama.
Another Reagan is EXACTLY what is needed and NOT another McCain.
Newt is my favorite, but I don’t see him winning the nomination, or even coming in 2nd... It is a shame. He would have taken the fight to Obama.
Right on, DJ!
True conservatism wins every time it’s lived,
defended and consistently demonstrated in this
CENTER RIGHT nation.
Build it and they will come ..
Good for him to get Secret Service protection!
Now Callista can stop protecting his six with her CC weapon, and let the SS take over.
Time for her to hit the spa, wash the hair, and start over again with a new doo!
DON’T GIVE UP!
They thought Reagan couldn’t win. He proved everything that you said.
A second BRAVO!
He still will. Don't give up..so Romney has won some of the eastern states and Santorum will start to sink in the polls.
Kraut hammer just said he expects Newt to drop out next week. It will then be a 2wo-man race.
Absolutely right. You put my exact thoughts into words. Thank you.
IIRC Obama got SS almost immediately after he declared, no one else having even dropped out of dem field at that time.
Well stated and I agree completely.
Romney has successfully run a company, but his role as Governor did not produce good results.
Santorum’s resume is much lighter than either of these.
If Newt can't win, I doubt anyone else can make the necessary changes, so there is not much point for me, unless Newt can continue to fight.
Amen.
Gingrich was 4th tonight in a lot of races, 4th, not second, not third, but fourth, behind even Ron Paul.
Clearly, if either Santorum or Gingrich drop out, the ballgame changes dramatically, and Romney will be severely threatened. Plus, the conservative left standing will get more money to counter Romney’s despicable attack ads.
If Gingrich’s and Santorum’s positions were reversed, there would be a loud clamoring for Santorum to drop out, and everyone reading this knows that would be the case. Gingrich needs to realize that his staying in is only helping Romney from this point on. If he’d have won TN, and ND, and if it had been a 3-man race for OH tonight, that would be different, but Santorum won TN and ND and OK, and is in a 2-man race for OH.
Gingrich has no chance; he knows it, and only his massive ego will keep him in this race from this point on. He needs to thank Georgians for supporting him and exit gracefully.
March 10th - Kansas (Caucus, 40 delegates)
March 13th - Alabama (Primary, 50 delegates)
March 13th - Mississippi (Primary, 40 delegates)
March 17th - Missouri (Caucus, 52 delegates)
March 24th - Louisiana (Primary, 46 delegates)
I need to get this off my chest about Palin.
I’ve admired her in the past but had my doubts. But I’m a person who believes a person’s loyalty intoughntimes shows a lot about his character. Sarah’s sticking with Newt through thick and thin In this deal has earned her my eternal admiration.
If she decides to run some day, I’ll walk through fire to vote for her.
Hank
Yesterday he had just over a hundred delegates.
In fact, every candidate needed about the same amount more of delegates to win the nom., over a thousand.
Today Melissa Harris-Perry did a very good analysis of the process. I watched it on TV.
If any of you want to take the time to look at her “jellybean” theory, it's very informative.
Especially you, rwfromkansas.
STARWISE, I had this saved to post as a thread, but here will do...
Yes, and the way things are going, Gingrich and Santorum will split them, while Romney picks up a few too, and then wins the winner-take-all states with 38% of the GOP vote.
Again, if Santorum were in Gingrich’s position right now, everyone would be calling for him to drop out and let Gingrich take Romney on one-on-one, instead of splitting the conservative vote.
Conservatives have picked their candidate. It’s Santorum, for good or bad. Perry, Bachmann, Gingrich...all had chances, and yet it’s Santorum that keeps coming back. He was my last choice, but he’s way better than Romney, and he’ll win it all if Gingrich leaves. If he doesn’t leave, Romney might very well be the nominee, and that would be the real GOP disaster in the making.
I'm a conservative and Santorum is NOT my pick. He spends too much money and we CANNOT afford him. Look at his voting record. NO THANK YOU! I will pass.
Gingrich is the only one that can defeat Obama.
Romney will be pulverized if he is the candidate.
Santorum should drop out and let Gingrich take the nomination.
Looks like the anti-Newt troll rode the lightning, real sudden-like. Many thanks to those responsible for taking out the garbage, it was beginning to really stink up the joint.
I was hoping Newt was going to win Okla, and Tenn also!
