Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said Thursday that Democrats have the votes to defeat a GOP-backed measure to approve the Keystone XL oil pipeline.
"The answer is yes," Reid said when asked if Democrats would kill the measure.
"Everyone should just calm down on Keystone,” Reid added. “Just take a deep breath, folks.”
Reid’s comments came just hours before the Senate is expected to vote on an amendment to transportation legislation that would force approval of the pipeline. The amendment requires 60 votes for passage.
The majority leader stressed that President Obama opposes the GOP amendment, but does not oppose the pipeline itself.
“So the president has not come out saying, 'I oppose Keystone,' ” Reid said. “He opposes doing it in the manner that's been jammed down our throats.”

Give Reid some credit - the Republicans will never fight back, so he is taking advantage of their spinelessness.
In 1980, a once-smart RNC started running ads in February after recent Carter gas lines showing a laughing Tip O’Neil riding along while his chauffer tells him he needs to get some gas or they will run out. The giddy O’Neil keeps saying no, until they do run out and O’Neil is standing on the roadside asking how did this happen.
The RNC should be putting out big national TV ads portraying a gloating Reid and Obama watching you pump gas at $7/barrel after you wait in line two hours while Steven Chu and George Soros drive by in their $10,000-subsidized Volts.
But no, you won’t see that. The RNC will be talking about the non-issues the Democrats bring forth, like contraception for rich ageing law students who are having sex three times a day (1000 condoms a year).
Which would make another good TV ad.

This is a no-brainer. It is easy for folks to understand. It is common sense. It is popular. It will win over votes.
It will even win an election.
This one small issue perfectly encompasses everything that is wrong in the White House from excessive regulations, foreign affairs, energy policy, rising prices, jobs, national security... everything. You name it, it can be illustrated with the Keystone pipeline.
Therefore, Republicans will talk about Rush Limbaugh, contraception and some college video of Obama that is meaningless.
Reid wouldn’t make a pimple on an Elephants butt.
