It’s a disease that technology spread. Even Reagan went from folksy to elevated depending on where he was campaigning. The last pre-media president was Truman. Starting with Eisenhower image became more and more important. In just a few short years Kennedy became the first celebrity president and it hasn’t budged since.

True, but at least Reagan didn`t try to sound like a `Bama boy on a southern campaign swing.
