Dozens of Iraqi teenagers stoned to death for ‘emo’ haircuts: activists

Iraqi activists sounded the bell over the killing of dozens of teenagers by religious police for having “emo” haircuts.

Activists told the Cairo-based al-Akhbar daily that at least 90 Iraqi teenagers with “emo” appearances have been stoned to death by the Moral Police in the country in the past month. The violent crackdown against “emo” Iraqi teenagers came after the Iraqi interior ministry declared them as “devil worshippers.”

“The ‘Emo phenomenon’ or devil worshiping is being probed by the Moral Police who have the approval to eliminate it as soon as possible since it’s detrimentally affecting the society and becoming a danger,” a statement by the Interior Ministry said.

“They wear strange, tight clothes that have pictures on them such as skulls and use stationery that are shaped as skulls. They also wear rings on their noses and tongues, and do other strange activities,” the statement added.

The statement said that Iraq’s Moral Police was granted approval by the Ministry of Education to enter Baghdad schools and pinpoint students with Western appearances.

The activists told the newspaper that a group of armed men dressed in civilian clothing led the teenagers to secluded areas a few days ago, stoned them to death, and then disposed their bodies in garbage dumpsters across the capital, Baghdad.

“First they throw concrete blocks at the boy’s arms, then at his legs, then the final blow is to his head, and if he is not dead by then, they start all over again,” one person who managed to escape told the daily. The exact death toll remains unclear, but Hana al-Bayaty of Brussels Tribunal, an NGO dealing with Iraqi issues, said the current figure ranges “between 90 and 100.”

Activists said that leaflets were distributed in Baghdad warning teenagers from donning the “emo” style, and in some regions, teenage homosexuals were killed by battering their heads also by concrete blocks.

IMHO, the picture in the middle is of a hairpiece, not a hairdo.

Because it’s part of what we are (or I and others here) were talking about. Emos largely reject religion. That’s a fact. Deal with it.

That feeds into their world view of themselves as an island responsible to nothing or no one for what they do. If you share that ‘belief’, that’s your call. If you don’t like my pointing out the fact that hatred of religious beliefs leads to other ‘hatreds’ and associated problems in society, then you present the contrary ‘proof’ to that and show me to be wrong.

You want to support atheism on this site, that’s up to you. You want to say Christianity is a ‘gang’ on a site whose first statement is “For God” as in your earlier post, spare me the ‘bully’ comments likely to follow and tell it to JR whom I pinged as a courtesy, since this directly relates to his site.

“don’t know exactly what it is you gentlemen want from me or why you keep badgering me”

Oh get over yourself...you’ve got a history on this site of getting backed into corners with your hysterical rants, then accusing male freepers of “somehow being abnormally interested” in you, implying some sort of illicit sexual interest on the part of some of the Christians here. It’s time somebody called you out on your snide behaviour, and I do so!

“What is with these people and rocks anyway? Not only do they love to throw rocks but they worship a giant black rock in apparent violation of their own strict prohibition of idolatry.”

Does “ignorant, animalistic, knuckledragging, pedophiles” sum it up pretty well?

I’ve been reading the posts going back and forth between yourself and a few others on here.

Just some thoughts as to your post about believing in God not keeping people out of gangs or crime. Many people make the mistake that those who spout belief in “God” as being the same as belief in the Christian God of the Bible. People use the term “God” very vaguely and freely, much like people toss about the terms “friend” or “love” rather hither-thither these days.

When Christian people say “God” they mean the God of the BIBLE - the triune God, who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

So, you might be right about people who say they believe in God. My question would, of course, be which God? Just like when people tell me they are spiritual, I want to ask, “Okay, which spirit do you worship or are you in tune with?” for we are told to TEST the spirits.

I acknowledge that we are all fallen and even those of us who are now under Grace still must persevere and fight off the sinful nature (Watchman Nee has said that when we become Christians we have a new nature but the old nature still fights against us...like two dogs fighting. Which dog wins? Well, the one we feed the most).

I’d be willing to bet the bank that the Holy Spirit absolutely DOES keep people out of gangs and crime. And there are a ton of books out there that attest to that very fact. Praise HIS Holy Name forever and ever.

If you don’t like my views, stop following me around like a puppy.

Rich, rich. So you want to push your hatred of God and dissing social conservatism on FR and then whine when anyone responds to you.

You're pretty funny.

You have to look at this logically...the Flock of Seagulls dude had a ‘do that was both aerodynamic and pointing him somewhere in case the drugs kicked in at a bad time and he got lost. Well, that and showing him the way to his synthesizer. It had a real purpose. Emos are half blinded by theirs and live/act accordingly ;)

If you don’t want me talking about atheism on this site, do not talk to me about atheism on this site. I did not address any of you first, you addressed me. If you do not like my responses, stop talking to me.

There are a lot of dysfunctional fads among youth and emo is hardly the only one.

I wonder how many Christians who are seriously upset with the emo movement are equally serious about trying to get the gospel to the people being drawn into it? It’s easy to take pot shots from behind a comfortable keyboard. Jesus Christ willingly yielded to being violently mutilated and sacrificed on a cross. If anyone can sympathize with every woe, this is it.

Well frankly ma’am there is not just one kind of atheist. Some are content to not personally believe in God, but they have no beef with others’ practice and preaching of any religion that does not “break their leg or pick their pocket.” Others are bent upon evangelizing their unbelief. If you are in that second category it will get you in a lot of hot water on FR — that’s the fundamental(ist) nature of the beast. And unashamed of it too.

I don’t evangelize and I don’t apologize. But don’t bring up atheism to me and then tell me to shut up, because I won’t. Not if you bring it up first.
